The Remnants Group Build 2020
Posted by BrandonK on Saturday, October 26, 2019 6:34 PM

This is not going to be a feeler, we are just gonna go with it. Here is the set up...

This will be a GB where you must put together a dio of some sort, simple to complex, it's up to you. The build must be about something that has come to meet its end, either at the moment of its end, or a long time ago. The dio should be something as simple as an aircraft that belly landed and tore up some soil and bent the prop before coming to rest. OR it can be as complex as a torpedo hitting a ship and the resulting explosion frozen in time.

What I'm going for here is not the ordinary, "build X type of kit" and take pictures and poof we're done. NOPE, this one is gonna make you think, plan and possibly, like myself, work well outside the box of what I'm used to doing. There are gonna be ENDLESS possibilities for builds here. You're gonna have to challenge yourself to come up with something. A simple dio of a plane sitting in a grassy field with some ruts won't cut it in this one, its needs to be wrecked, or forgotten, destroyed, something along those lines. Sunken works too. Lots of possibilities.

Scale...anything

Era...anything

Miltary or Civil...anything

Must be at the moment or after the damage occured.

Must be a dio!!

Time frame for the build....open ended due to the nature of what we will be doing.

Starts January 2020....ends.....???

For example. I will be trying to do an underwater shot of a Shark mouth P-40 resting on the ocean floor after ditching in the sea.

Another example might be a Zero sitting in the jungle all shot up with the jungle reclaiming it. Or a spitfire sitting in the sand where time has nearly eating it up, but you can still tell its an old Spit lost to time. Or ships, or tanks, or...whatever. Get creative, get outside your comfort zone. Let's make something really jaw dropping and we will take all the time we need, but we will do it together and help each other solve problems and really learn something new along the way.

Giving it some thought, never completed a dio.  Being open ended though, I'm in.  Probably either an aircraft or vehicle.

The main reason its open ended is to allow peeps to work on their other GB commitments and still throw their hat in the ring and work on it when they find time.

Oh come on Chad, I know you can think of something. How about a wrecked 109?

BK, It was great to meet you and I believe I'll do that 1/700 newly discovered Akagi wreck like we talked about.

Sweet!! That will be very cool. I have so many ideas running through my head right now on what to do. I think I'll get my feet wet with a 1/72 bird underwater, perhaps inside a fish bowl and then scale up to something bigger. This is gonna be fun.

This sounds pretty darn interesting. I built only one dio in the past of a rusted up car abandoned in a field. This may be a refresher and I am glad it is open ended. I am in with I don't know yet what

I've been wanting to force myself into doing something more broad and life like, something that pulls you into a story and not just a subject. I'm glad you decided to come along. We will all have a great time.

Hi Brandon - Please put me down for the old Airfix Airfield Control Tower. I'm thinking about a scene of a delapidated building long forgotten amongst overgrown brush on an old abandoned RAF airfield.

Chad, that sounds olike a great project. There is a UK website all about WW2 control towers, that might be of use. Many were left derelict for years, even decades, so they went through a long process of decay. Lots of options for that.

Bish, that sounds like an excellent reference! Do you happen to know the website? A cursory review on Google didn't reveal anything.

I literally just join the forum and so glad I found this. I want in. Not sure what I'll build just yet but put me down for TBD. I'm new to this whole forum thing so someone may have to point me in the right direction of posting updates and pics of the build. Thanks!

I like you handle GFSR. If you have posted on other forms, it is similar, otherwise, you will need to get a picture hosting site. STAY AWAY FROM PHOTOBUCKET. Most people use others such as Flikr, Imageshack, Postimage etc, etc. Some of them have an anual cost, some don't. The ones that cost, other than Photobucket, are usually reasonable and don't have adds to deal with.

The picture posting process isn't that hard and in fact very easy once you do it once.

Wow, I was able to check out that website on the towers and that's very cool stuff. So many different styles to choose from. There is no shortage of ideas there for sure.

GFSR, welcome!! I will update the front page for your entry.

Everyone is welcome to build as few or as many dios as they wish. Set your mind free and challenge yourself to go where you haven't gone before in the hobby. I'm totally looking forward to this one.
