Getting very close now - got the wndscreen bent up from clear sheet, and framed up with decals.

And the motor is installed too

I can't get over how good that rotor looks Piers. I get ya about slowing down.

Next step for the Pitcairn, the rotor was set up in a jig and the rotor rigging added. Going slow at the moment with life getting in the way of building.

Ok, here's more pictures of the Flettner and the final finished build.  First some painting, decals, and improvement on the rotors - which was devoid of any details.  Used misc plastic, left over PE, and a paper clip to add the details.

Waikong, I do like the Flettner - such a wierd looking craft. The cockpit has great detail, you have painted it up very well. And are those marshmallows stuck on the engine coaming? Looking forward to seeing how this one comes out.

I do have the Huma 1/72 Fl 282, won't get to that this GB though.

The Pitcairn is coming along steadily, the rotor head and the landing gear are now on. Next to get the rotor itself set up - starting with developing a jig.

Here's the kit I was building.  Special Hobby 1/48 Fl265

limited run kit, so lots of butt joints and a lot of triming and dryfitting.  Started the kit by adding some framing that was missing around the cockpit

The windows on top is molded in, so I chained drilled and opened that up.

The cockpit is a resin piece, somewhat good detail.

Here's the cockpit closed up with the framing and the top window (acetate piece) installed. 

bit of a delicate job getting the wheel mounts together, but surprisingly strong once the glue is dried.

Next up will be detailing the plain rotors, paint and decal to finish it up.

Ok, is it too late to join? I saw this late last year, inspired me to break out my 1/48 Flettner fl265 kit, I actually started in Jan and finished it in Feb.  But forgot all about joining the GB!  I have in progress pics :)  GBs here have been great incentive to break out some old kits.

That thing looks a complicated to build and paint as a Gee Bee.

Tanks guys, I think I have left it long enough this time, the fingerprints are cleaning up...

I have started rigging. I have used the monofilament (fishing line) painted with Metal hobby lacquer for the stainless wing/landing gear stays, and EZ line for the tail stays and rudder/elevator control lines.

Excelent job. Yeah, gloss takes a long time to dry before you don't leave prints in it. I never seem to wait long enough.

Gave the gloss coat a fortnight to dry out. I have had issues with leaving fingerprints on gloss coats in the past.

I painted the red tips on the rotor blades. Worried about masking over the decals, so I used post it notes cut to the curves and sprayed multiple coats at low pressure.

Next is the rigging. The wings have got obviously metal stays so I had to get a way to show that. Several iterations trying to paint monofilament or Z line with Acrylic, lacquers or Gundam marker. The best combination is monofilament and lacquer (Mr Metal), so start rigging next.
Any paint on the Ez line just falls off as it stretches or contracts.

Nice save Piers. I can't tell that they had any cracks. I have to copy and print new decals for Williams Brothers kits. That works well until they're white.

And it took me a while to notice the top of the spark plug picture on the big decal has been scrubbed over with yellow - don't know why.

I've had problems with older Williams Brothers decals, too, Piers.  Looks like you are coping pretty well, but it is always hair raising.

Started decalling this weekend. They gave me a scare to start with - the clear film os a cloudy white as it goes on - have a look at the Miss Champion decal but fortunately that dissapears after a while. The old decals hold together mostly, but there are some cracks in the big Champion decal.

Then it was time for the decals on the rotors. These are long and break up easily, they have all been pieced back together. The ones on the top with all the cross stripes were the worst. I only got two of them done, the next one I will chop in two before putting them on.

Wow yellow over blue!  That's tough - looks extremely well done.

The design of the osprey is pretty solid, I just put a bit too much pressure at the wrong angle.  It's on me.
