Dodgy..  Found the other thread.  Back on page 44 of ships, 4th one down.

Update on my SMS Kronprinz build.

Replaced the plastic 15.2cm barrels with brass ones and put on a coat of metal primer on the barrels and also on the 12" barrels.

A couple of photos of partial superstructure assemblies.  The plastic in this kit is very soft making the masts and yardarms very flimsy so I replaced them with brass rod.

The usual PE upgrades.

Started painting the decking.  On coat four with around (at best count) 350 strips of 11mm x .5mm tapes radomly applied along the deck.  If you look closely at the decks you can see the tape.  Only three more coats of paint and then the final before they are finish, clear coat, wash, and clear coat again.  Oh and then mask the whole works to protect it.  If I can work on them every night this week I should be finished with them on Sunday.

After the decks next step will be to paint the hull and all of the hardware on the deck.  Will post an update when that step is done.

Right now I am painting the decks.  I do have some of the superstructures assembled and odds and ends ready.  I will post some photos tonight.

Thanks guys.  Sometimes it takes a bit of looking ot find the piece you need, some of them are small and don't seem to just go in order.  But then, it could be my vision getting worse.

Tis is going to be a full hull build.  I just hope I can find the rass bases I used to have sitting on a shelf. 

I have been having a few problems with the wood set.  I laid down the decking and beside having to cut the sections and holes before lifting them off the sheet, I ended up with a couple spots that formed a crease and had to be cut and slightly trimmed on one part of the deck and another area that had to be trimmed around wher the superstructure was going to sit.  Next time I think I'll look for a different company for the decking.

Hopefully a few more shots tomaoorw.

It's the Pontos set.  The peson who gave me the kit had it in the box.  He was never good at building ships so I think I'll give it back to him when it's finished, and he's over on this coast instead of the gulf.

One thing I did notice was that at a couple points there were a few small attachment points, like you see on P.E. parts.

When I did the Mikasa, the deck parts lifted easily and fit perfectly.  Nextime I might have to look up that company and see what they might have for my next ship.

Very nice start on the PE work looks great. I have heard the Trumpeter kit is very detailed right OOB. Are you doing a full hull or waterline?

Your camo work is wonderful, really bends in with the background.  Are you planning to camoflage the upper works also?

These are the only other 2 completed pics i have of the U-99. I built it for Steve's Sub warfare GB 3 years ago.

Sorry about the confusion Bish. Its been so long since I delved into the stash that I had for some reason thought that it was a much larger scale than it was. Was also surprised to find that I had two of them. Thats a fine looking model you built, is there a chance of posting more pics? I find pics of other peoples models a great source of stimulation for my own projects.

on my end the painting is all done. Detail work left and final gluing of weapons to go. Then I can get into some mild weathering and finishing up the base. Here's 2 test shots in my "Fjord" -

Does anyone have some pics of how they tied off to the mooring? I have some pics of the Tirpitz and in the one below it looks like there is something between the ship and piling. Not the clearest shot but pretty good for the time period. I know it's not a rubber bumper  lol

My family is from Germany and Austria.  I'm not sure where in Germany but the last of the family left Austria after the assination.  After WWI the family land became part of Italy but still retains the family name, now called Monte Baldo and appears to cover a rather large area of tghe mountains.

Your ship, the Graf Spee, is named after the commander of the German East Asia Squadron, where the battle of Coronel was won but the Battle of the Falkland Islands three weeks later in December 1914 cost the squadron all of it's ships except Leipzig, and Spee and his two sons were KIA.
