Bish,
Thank you.
Marcus
Marcus, lovely looking ship. Some very impressive work there, well done.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3
Actually I had completely forgotten about that site. Ta mate, I shall check it out.
I long to live in a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned
Dodgy I have also discovered that U-Boats are a confusing subject to research.
They can be. Have you looked at U-boat.net
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I have been trying to put a bit more detail in and thin down some of the 'clunkier' bits. Iv'e got a lot more work to do though and I'm not looking forward to bring the hull, deck parts and afte torpedo tube together. I suspect I'm going to need a lot of filler and patience. I have also discovered that U-Boats are a confusing subject to research.
Ok its been a long break and the Emden is on hold, but here are some shots of the U-Boat.
Very impressive Marcus. A beaut looking model.
modelcrazy This one, or did you want me to make you up a diffrent one (not a problem)?

Steve,
This is the one.
Thanks,
Steve, Mongoose, Plasticjunkie,
Thank you for the kind remarks and for looking in.
I would like the Imperial Naval Flag, the same that is flown on SMS ships.
Excellent build Marcus! Which picture did you want on the wall?
As soon as I post it I'll put your metal up it you want one.
Wonderful Marcus. I plan to use your technique on my next deck. Really turned out to be a beautiful ship
In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!
Wow Marcus.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Well everyone I am calling my SMS Kronprinz build completed. She has her errors but I am satisfied with her looks. This was a fun build, not to many weird issues to correct. Didn't do any weathering as she will be on a display stand I would like her to look new, as built.
The torpedo nets are really parachute cord. The child's round shoe laces I order were still to wide and tall. The cord has a seperate center that unravel when cut so I had to use a lighter to melt the cords so they stay together. I wish I had a better method to fuse them together so there wouldn't be those lumps at the ends. They did look a lot worst but I trimmed them back as much as possible. I can live with it.
Kronprinz has two rudders but I misplaced one of them and couldn't find it anywhere so I had to go with the one. Of course as soon as I get the single rudder installed I found the lost rudder in the bottom of a box for another build I started on. By that time I had to much of the upper works installed to be turning her upside down to change it back. So one rudder will have to do.
I bend the main mast during filming, didn't notice it until posting the photos. Moved it back before putting her on the shelf.
Thats all folks. Like I said this was one of my more enjoyable builds, but I am ready to move on to another.
Thanks Steve. I thought that surely there must be access to the gun from inside. I would not fancy tring to walk across that deck to the gun in rough weather. Those Griffon racks were not easy to make thats for sure.
Did you get the 3D props?
Very nice PE work.
Bish Nice work there Steve. What PE set are you using again. I notice that little door in the side of the forward gun well, mine didn't have that and i wasn't sure if there was access to the gun pit from below or not.

Thanks Bish! I'm actually combining Eduard's 53033 PE set and Griffon Model's N72001/N72002 PE set. The Griffon one isn't as complete as the one you used. For instance, there is no replacement for the midship wooden decking, etc. But it offers other replacements that the Eduard set doesn't.
The Eduard's set has the forward gun emplacement hatch. On the S100 boats, it was the prefered way to enter as there wasn't a great deal of room in there. It reminds me of the ball turrets on American bombers, they usually stuck the smallest person in there.
The Eduard set also provides the torpedo racks that a a great deal easier to construct than the Griffon one. I'm also not going to use the ArtWok decking or either set's PE decking as it really isn't three dimentional enough for my taste.
There's no way that I'll use up either set in the end, but it's nice to have options. Then there's all the 3D stuff I have for this model too.
docidle plasticjunkie Thanks Steve, the badge looks amazing!! I tried 3 times posting quoting your post and got the 303 error message, worked without the quote. I tried quoting Marcus and got the 303 Error too. Another update? Steve

This 303 code comes and goes, gone for now,

Seems to be working now. Anyway here's some more PE work, this time on the skull cap.
Thanks guys! I agree Marcus, it does look better when all the PE gets put on. You should check out Bish's Schnellboot build log in the Ships forum.
More PE to show. This is starting to catch up with all the PE I've been doing on the 1/200 USS Arizona and a heck of lot smaller!
It's going to be a shame to paint over all this beautiful Brass.
Bish Steve, good to see you back at this, nice work. Marcus, the kit is molded that way, it was the same on the one i did last year. Don't know why Revell did that, its meant to have a ring on ammunition magazines around the gun position.

That deck should does look better with the PE mod then that molded lump.
PJ, sorry it took some time to get your metal up but here it is if you wanted one.
Gut gemacht! great looking U-boat.
Was the deck molded that way or was that a molding defect?
