I would like to join this build as well. At the moment I'm limited to the recent Eduard, "The Few", release but am really wanting a 1/32 Tamiya so that's a possibility. If funds permit. I can hear Pink Floyd playing in the background...

Can't comment on Revell or Hobbyboss (can't find a 1/48 Vb listed under those brands at Scalemates).  So that leaves either Tamiya or new tool Airfix.

Tamiya

- guaranteed good fit and enjoyable build

- decals will likely be thick

- shape wise it has been described as 'short, fat, slab sided and the wing shape is too broad at centre chord'

 

Airfix

- more accurate, but details not quite as refined

- some build problems, particularly fit issues with landing gear and armoured fuel tank in front of cockpit

Bish I would like to be included in this group build. For me the un-named aircraft of almost divine status has special importance. I first built this model when I was nine-years old with the help of my Cousin in Mexico, Missouri in the summer of 1955. It was my introduction to scale modeling almost 66 years ago. I did not know it at the time but my Uncle Harold who had lived in the same house in Missouri before I was born flew a Supermarine Spitfire VB under Sir Douglas Bader. Uncle Harold was an American born Royal Canadian Air Force Flying Officer stationed in Tangmere, England. Later he volunteered to fly an Avro Lancaster Mk-III for the RAF 153 Night Fighter Squadron of Bomber Command in Kirmington, Lincolnshire, England.

Which one of the 1/48 scale Supermarine VB's is the best: Tamiya, Hobby Boss, Airfix or Revell?

I went down to the local HS to pick up this up. My wife ordered it a few weeks ago for my birthday and I picked it up yeserday. She'll hide it until then so I don't get into it. No worries there, I'm still chest deep in the Akagi build.

In honor of your preference, I've selected an aircraft that I'm pretty sure can be named in your presence.  It's also going to be my first full resin kit, because why not?  Put me down for a 1/72 Supermarine Seagull ASR.1.

 

Interesting choice. I have a few resin aircraft in the stash but not built one yet. Though i have done a resin 35th armour and some 1/18th engines. Just got to take it slowly.

I like to plan ahead, i usually plan 12 months ahead in 2 blocks of 6 months. I don't like starting a dio and then find i am missing somthing.

gomeral, there is no rush. You have the whole year to start and build the kit or kits.

Got my kit from the brown elves this afternoon.  Eduard's Mk. VIII in 1/72.  Looks like I may be ordering a couple more because there are a some rather attractive schemes included.  One is a shark mouthed Aussie bird, a US squadron hack in medium sea gray for the upper surfaces, PRU Blue for the lower surfaces with yellow and red bands on the clipped wingtips, and the aircraft flown by Capt. Wade's boss AVM Broadhurst.

Okay, count me in.  My stash is a little light, but it's growing and I should easily have something before 01/01!

Just don't inundate you with Spitfires?  CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! I probably shouldn't buy another kit as I have plenty of Spits in the stash.  However, I have decals for a Mk. VIII flown by Wing Commander Lance Wade.  He's from Broaddus, TX and is buried in Cushing, TX about 150 miles from me. Since he never transferred to the USAAF, he remained the highest scoring US ace serving in a foreign air force with 22 kills.  That's the one I'll start with.

I rather like the ugly loking ones, guess thats why i love the Stuka. And i know the feeling. I have now commited myself to 3 GB's for next year and i will be hosting another from July. But what i build next year will all be determined by how long the U-Boat takes.

Well, I found this in my stash. And apologies Bish, I find British aircraft some of the most attractive but this plane is... well... to use the local term kinda butt-ugly... 

Please put me down as tentative. I want to try to finish off some GBs this year before I commit myself to anything new.
