Especially to mark the start of our GB, the RAAF held a Centenary flypast over Canberra today:

Awesome!!!

I may be a little slow out of the gate since I've working on my Bf-109 for Bish's GB but the Spit is already started, cockpit is mostly done but I haven't closed up the fusilage yet.

Hi 68GT, great choice - never knew ICM had a VIII.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

And just in time for the starting day

So I have this ICM Mk VIII in 1/48 scale and some old Aeromaster Decals. I'll be good as long as the decals hold up and build this shark mouth Spitfire from 457 Squadron.

On Ed's bench, ???

Lost, hopefully will only use the aftermarket if it adds :)  There was a thing about these aircraft needing Sutton Harnesses, I covered the bases with that although I now know the kit actually has one.  I'm told it hasn't got the reflector sight though (so money well spent), and I've seen several different views of the paint colours required so this is going to need a certain amount of guesswork.  Anyone with a good clear picture of the wing-mounted gun camera fancy trading, please say!

Patrick, that's a huge amount of AM there, looking forward to that coming together.

Bob, great choice, the P-40/Kittyhawk was a stalwart for the RAAF in the desert and PTO.

So I can look at this project a bit more.  Kit box:

Buffalo 32nd (1 of 3) by Patrick Nevin, on Flickr

Kit innards (I opened the plastic bag very gently to check the 'very fine and thin' transparencies after clipping the box with a chair leg)

Buffalo 32nd (2 of 3) by Patrick Nevin, on Flickr

Proposed aftermarket : Montex masks, SAC undercarriage, Brengun flaps and reflector sights, HGW Models seatbelt and Airscale placards just in case the model looks like it needs them.

Yeah, those guys had guts to spare. And I love the Boomerang since it's an entirely Aussie aircraft instead of something bought from somewhere else like a Spit or P-40.

Gamera

All of those are awesome but love that Boomerang Dodgy!

That's one aircraft I've got to build one day.

It was a tough bugger Gamera, awsome ground support job, but no match for any Jap fighter. The number of Aussie airman killed in training and those sent to fight the Japs in obsolete aircraft is truly sad. They knew they had no chance but went anyway. Volunteers the lot of em.

Sergeant, that is supposed to be a very nice kit to build, looking forward to it.

Patrick, the Buffalo!  Not the best airplane by all accounts, but it was there when needed!

I will put you both up now

Strewth Deeve you talk 'strine like a dingo!

Dodgy, that is a ripper model there - love someone willing to have a shot at a vacform! And an Aussie model of an Aussie plane - perfect!

Got you both on board

Can't wait to get this one done. Been sitting with the interior half done for over a year.

Bish

Gamera

You know I'm in - Hasegawa 1/48th Spitfire Mk VIII.

And don't tell Bish how awesome the Spit is- not only did it win the war in Europe against the Germans and Italians it then crossed the Pacific and crushed the Japanese Empire... Wink

It also saves kittens from trees and feeds starving children by all accounts.

Mate, your fellow modelers love the Spitfire. It was one of Britain's finest aircraft in the Second World War.

Basically all I av done is pahrtially assemble the bloody interiawr. The RAAF version is a pretchoo dardy Bahah metal finish, mate. I was gonnah do in RAF mahrkings with a olive drab 'n light blue bottom, but thats just ***in' bawrin' ****. Bloody oath cobber.

****in' too right, mate.

Is this acceptable? Never built a vacform before, but I've got good references, lots of patience and grog!

G'day Lost. I was going to enter this with an old Otaki MkVIII Spit. But if crossovers are ok, I will go with a vacform 1/32 Boomerang that I'm about to start on for the ground support GB.

Running the Supermarine GB must be really hurting you Bish!

Nick, Cliff you are on the board!

I won't mention my own Mk VIII yet, my first will be a Russian (ex Frog) Vultee Vengeance 1/72, bought for 50 koruna in Czech republic in 1994

No box shot available, it was in a plastic bag when I bought it!

LOL, Oh man, now that's funny.

I guess the Hellcat, Mustang, Corsair and Lightning were just there for target practice Wink

Just giving you some jazz Gam.

Good stuff Bish, nice choice.

SEA or European scheme, or a surprise?

First real go at badges, happy with the results.
