BrandonK

Looking good, TJ. Can't help but love those Japanese birds.

BK

BK I agree. Last Xmas I bought a bunch of kits from a local woman who's husband passed. Over half of what I got was Japanese WWII kits

So sorry folks. Work has been really slow, had lots of issues getting the pit painted and then getting the pit and engine to fit. Now filling seams. Lots of fit issues. Hope to have more pics in a few days

I am still alive. Life has been keeping me very busy and my free time has been rather limited.

Gamera, I’m afraid I’ll have to remove the armored car I entered from the group build. I got a kitten earlier this year and he ended up breaking the armored car along with two other in progress projects. I was planning to salvage the armored car but both headlights have vanished along with a wheel.

If you are curious here is the culprit although in this picture he’s an adult now.

That being said I would like to enter something else. I looked through what Japanese kits I have and picked out this 1/35 Tamiya Type 10.

Sure Greysnake- things happen. Thanks for checking in.

Handsome cat, sorry to hear he was so rambuncious (sp?)

The Type 10 is awesome, another kit I've got and looking around for the time to actually build.

I'll put you down now and if you don't get done by the end of the year no issues here with you rolling her over into JGB XII.

Gamera, the cat is very rambunctious. It took some training with a spray bottle filled with water to train him. He’s finally learned the hobby room isn’t a play room.

The Type 10 is a very nice kit. I just wish Tamiya would add PE for the turret basket mesh and not the vinyl stuff.

Dodgy, he is trouble. Now that he’s a year old he’s not that bad.

Started work on the Type 10 this morning and after an hour and a half the lower hull is done.

The kit fit on the kit is amazing with some of the parts just clicking in place. Oddly enough the idler wheels and return rollers had flash on them which is odd for a newer Tamiya kit.

Here is the progress I made on the Type 10 yesterday.

Finished the upper hull and had to make a decision on gluing on the side skirts now or later. Due to the fit tolerance being so precise I don’t want to do any gluing after the kit is painted. The plan is to paint part lower first that’s covered or mostly covered by the side skirts then mask around the painted parts and finish painting the rest of the model.

Right now the upper and lower hull can still be separated.

One thing I wish Tamiya would stop doing grab handle blobs. Normally I’d replace it but I want this to be a relaxing build.

The main parts of the turret were glued together yesterday also. The fit is very precise however where two parts joined there was a little flash. It took very careful cleaning not to ruin the join.

The second thing Tamiya did that I’m not a fan of is clear plastic for the vision blocks. The clear piece of plastic originally came with the Type 90 Tamiya released in the late 1990’s. Tamiya expects you to carefully cut out each piece of plastic using a template. Mine turned out looking “okay” as long as you don’t look too hard.

My least favorite part of the kit is the gun barrel that is split into two halves. It would work for a WWII era tank but the design really doesn’t work with modern tank barrels. It is going to take some very careful sanding to get it looking good. I’m tempted to order an Aber barrel I’m just not thrilled about paying $30 for one.

Right now I believe I've spent a little over five hours working on this kit.

Looks great! You're almost done with assembly.

And yeah those modern barrels with all the bore evacuvators, muzzle brakes etc are a pain to clean up. The old straight WWII barrels are so much simpler to build.

Finished up with the majority of the assembly on the Type 10 over the last three days. Think I’m ready to start painting the lower hull now.

The mesh on the turret was a headache here is a picture of the instructions.
 6243710F-F30B-414F-94F1-E10918703899

It took me about three hours of careful cutting using a straight edge ruler as a guide to make sure everything was even.

Not sure if I want to add the figures yet or not I really don’t like them. I haven’t glued the hatches on the turret yet so I still have the option to close them.

Looks great, nice work!!!

And I know what you mean about the mesh. When I use it I tend to load up the storage racks with stuff to hide how ragged the edges are where I cut them.

Hey TJ she looks fantastic and you are welcome!!!

I will get you posted in two weeks. I am on vacation/holiday and somehow the friggin' power supply for the laptop wasn't in the bad WITH the laptop. So I've got a computer here but about an hours worth of power before the thing goes KAPUT!!!

Sorry guys!!!

Hey TJ, sorry about the delay but you're UP!!!

And again great job!!! Beautiful work, funny one of the things I've never built is an early war Zero in the grey scheme.

And now I have to come up with a badge for next year... Any suggestions guys??? I want to go with the same gal mascot but I'll be hanged that I don't have any new ideas...

I don’t think I’ll be able to complete the Type 10 by the end of the year. I paint in the garage and right now it is a little cooler then I would like to paint. Ideally I would have a spray booth in the home I just don’t have the room for one.

Greysnake: No issues at all! I just got the artwork for the badge for JGB XII from Rock so we're good for it. Will be getting sign-ups for it up soon and you're welcome to roll over your Type 10 to it.
