Hi,

I just joined the community. Are Japanese ships allowed in the GB or just land and air. Can mediocre newbies join the group?

First how the heck did I miss your post???

Second, CB is absolutly correct! Pretty much anything is allowed as long as it's Japanese*. Ships are fine! Any skill level, I don't match some of the guys here but it's okay. I just run these group builds to get people to pull stuff out of the stash and get it built! 

*There's some ahem... naughty anime figures out there that the mods on the forum might frown upon... 

A bit more progress on the N1K1.  I realzied I am having a  hard time getting myself to stuff the cockpit inside the fuselage and thus hide all that detail forever .  Perhaps some of you have seen my post asking for tips on vacuforming canopies. Well now you know why ...

Another N1K1 update.  Joined wings and fuselage.  Strangely, the fit was not perfect.

Also painted cowl and prop...

And gee whiz I really need to get that badge- you're gonna be done before it is!!!

Anyone have any good ideas? I've been racking my brain and can't think of anything good. I'd like to use the same gal, but I'm stumped- we've already had her as a pilot, a geshia, a samurai, a sailor- I dunno what next...

Sure! Just put you down. 

Progress is slowing.  Maganged to ge the propeller painted (mostly). Prop decals are a bust, just going to mask and paint on the little yellow stripes...  Spinner did not fit well to base. Had to thin out inside of spinner with Dremel (a dicy process it was).  

For a Tamiya kit, this thing is not turnig out to be very shake-and-bake :-D. Turns out some modeling skill is required for this particular kit.

I went to clean up and install he gun pods and notice the rear section did not seem very well molded. Testing fitting them to the wing made me wonder how the flaps would come down on the real plane.  Not being familiar with this type, I assumed the rear section of the pod had to be flattened/sanded at an agle to allow for flap movement. After taking care of that , there was a big gap that needed to be filled...  

I also continued work on the propeller...

CB: Very nice work! And I know what you mean, some of the older Tamiya kits can be a bit 'off' when it comes to quality. The prop came out really well!

I have a quick update. I finally managed to complete the cockpit and get it painted and detailed. I closed up the fuselage last night. I will be joining the wings to that later today. This one is building quickly so I should be in paint in a few days, maybe this weekend.

DiscoStu,  Great work.   I have always toyed with the idea to cut away some of the right side fuselage in these situations to show off the interior.... maybe one of these days.

This looks very very good. The color is much closer to what I think is the correct color for my interior, but I don't have any and I don't feel like mixing, so I went with DK green IJA. Your's looks better.

Thanks.  The paint is just Gunze "Nakajima Cockpit" that I lightened with a tiny drop of white.

I'd imagine if you give it some time, MRP will come up with a nice match for it.  They've been doing some real nice work on some of the more eclectic cockpit colors:  Russian Turquoise, Dull Dark Green, Bronze Green, etc.

I don't usually weather my aircraft, but I wanted to try this hairspray chipping technique. I think I went a bit overboard. Not really trying to depict an a/c from pacificwrecks.com... Plus it dawned on me that my factory fresh looking cowling is going to look a tad out of place when I attach it. Think I'll strip this off and go with a factory fresh look!

CB: Nice work! As Brandon says you can always tone it down a notch by overspraying it.

I got with Rock about the badge last week and he got back with this to me. 

It's not really what I'd had in mind, I was thinking something more cyberpunk. What do you guys think? Do you like it? Should I ask him to do a little more work on it or start over?

It would look great for a motorcycle GB but not quite for a military one, IMO.
