Trying something different this time, polishing the paint without shooting any gloss for decal application and washes. 
Flory Washes need to go over a glossy finish otherwise it stains the area upon wiping with a water damp paper towel piece. Decals need a glossy surface to avoid silvering. 
I polished the paint with a 1200 grit pad then went over with a coffee paper filter. What I got was a very smooth semigloss finish with tonal variation that should allow for the next steps.

The Flory Washes went on, left to dry and a water dampened paper towel was used to carefully wipe away the dried excess wash, it worked like a charm leaving no staining or halo once wiped off. I love using these Flory Washes.

Next up will be the decal application that should yield equally positive results.

I will try to do that this morning since its overcast which keeps my garage where I do my painting somewhat with a bearable temperature otherwise it feels like a freaking oven when the sun is out. Kind of hard to do fine detail painting when one is melting away with heat. 

 

 

 

 

Ha PJ, at the moment I have the opposite problem. The split system in my work room is busted and it's freezing up there!!

 

Ill gladly trade ya lol! Can't wait for winter to get here.

Thanks BK. I used Montex vinyl masks that the edges kept lifting up. I had to continually press down on the mask to keep it down  and quickly spray. Still I had several edges to clean up with a sharp wood toothpick. The Eduard masks are far better than this vinyl stuff.

After various delaying incidents, I managed to finish this

Below some photos of the completed kit. This time I even placed an antenna wire (hair pinched of my girlfriend, who was very pleased to support the Home Island Defences

All weathering was done with dry pastels and was applied sparingly, as this is supposed to be a relatively new machine. Only the drop tanks were treated as something that all ground crews throw around without caring.

Not much to report, but I have made a start on the Kate. Can't work at my bench cos the heaters busted up there and it's bloody freezing, so I'm working on the dining room table. Hope to have more done in the next few days.

PJ, the Myrt is looking good. I used to break bits all the time until I found these wonderful bits on Amazon. They can be used with just your fingers or in a chuck. I have far more control with these than the ones in the pin vise. One of the best tools I've added to my bench ever.

This is a beautiful kit but it has some VERY nasty wing root gaps specially near the rear of the wings that were filled with PPP and the larger gaps with stretched sprue. 

The rest of the kit is fitting together really well. I also got all the greenhouse masking done so the painting is very close. Wanted to wire up the engine but the plastic is so darn hard that 3 of my miniature drill bits broke so I gave up. It will be very hard to see anyway after the cowl covers things up.

Hi folks, just catching up. I haven't been able to do any work on the Kate for a few weeks, so have been spending some time researching interior colours and detail. So much good stuff has been happening on here whilst I've been gone though.

Glamdring: The camo on your vehicle came up great and the figures are brilliant.

John: I love the Dinah. It's a great looking model and I loved the comparison photo with the Zero, (which was awesome too).

PlasticJ: The pit on your Myrt is stunning. I hope I can achieve something similar with the Kate.

BK: Your Val is something else. What a fantastic job. All that masking would have done my head in.

Zvezda: The Tony is comming along really well. A great build and paint job

Greysnake: I love the armoured car and I'm in agreement with the others, it is rather steampunkish. It would be a fun subject to play around with and make it even more so.

TA Dave: The George is a great choice. I just finished the Otaki Spit MkVIII. It was a challenging build, but had some lovely panel lines and good shape. I also have their Val and Zero.

Z, the paint looks amazing.

TADave, the George is a very good looking aircraft and very advanced for its time.

Snake, that is one unique looking armored car indeed.

Sorry gents but life got in the way and was MIA for a spell but time to jump back in this great GB.   I need to catch up on my entry so time to switch gears .

Those are very cool. I too, thought it had a steampunk vibe too it. Cool kit.

Looks cool Greysnake! I've always liked the odd steampunk look of the armoured car though I've never picked one up. 

The only Pit Road kit I've built is their Kurogane, I don't remember any real problems with it though.
