Thanks for leave punch links, they look great. A lot cheaper than buying scaled leaves for sure!

Thanks guys!!!

Waikong: There is a 1/72nd scale kit. But yeah I don't think there is a 1/48th kit. It's a pretty tiny tank in 1/35th though.

Piers: The leaves are real leaves punched out in leaf shapes. The punches are from Green Stuff World in Spain.

I've been very happy with the punches I've bought.

Fantastic work there Cliff, it looks great!

Nice restrained weathing, muddied up well.

Great work on the base too, nice autumn leaves - are they photo etch?

Gary, we're looking forward to seeing the trimotor

That looks great GameDay! You just don't see Japanese armor very often. If only they make one in 1/48.

That's a nice job, Gamera!  Waiting to see the final photos.

As for me, I'm plugging away on the Trimotor.  The rigging is giving me fits, but I'm almost done.  With no major set-backs, I should have her finished by the 1st (famous last words).

Is this going to be my best work, heck no....

Is it going to be done by the end of the month, dunno, we'll see...

But I am making progress. At least it does look like a tank...

Thanks Piers!

Actually I'm making decent progress now. I laid down the pin wash and painted the tracks today. Still not crazy about how the paint comes out but I'm going to finish her up as is instead of stripping her...

Photos when I have something worth posting...

Deep breaths Cliff, deep breaths!

The builds just had to start by August 1, finish any time.

Oh mama mia!!! I was thinking this started in Oct or Nov and I had a couple of months left to go!!!

I pulled out the Type 89 and started on the pin washes today. Not sure I'll make the deadline but I'm moving again in any case...

That is a pain with the decals Gary, especially with how well it's all coming together.

It's a tough job to get them settled into the corrugations in the first place.

(Slow on the response due to vacation)

Thanks, Gamera!  I've been rather slow in finishing her.  I had an accident while masking the wing and pulled up part of the decal.  Luckily, I have enough letters to cobble together some replacement, but it's a hassle.  Just a little more, and she'll be finished (I hope).

Hey Gary she looks superb! I wouldn't worry too much about the engines, you got the aluminum finish right and that's what I expect most people are going to pay most of their attention to!

At a glacial pace, the Ford Trimotor is coming along.  I still have some touch-up work to do, and general clean up, but the decals are on and they seem to have settled down nicely.  Also, rigging the control lines is a pain (as you can see by my attempt on the aileron).  I'll fix that.  Overall, it's a nice kit that surprised me at how well it fit (for a 60 year old model).  Hopefully it won't take till August.

Ford Trimotor Revell Model

As for the engines, they're basic.  Plumbing is a lot more complicated than shown, and I don't have the skill to replicate them.  As for struts, it's simple and uncomplicated.  They seem to have covers over the shocks (some Ford Trimotors had them removed) and they were either painted or have aluminum covers.

Thanks for looking!

Looking good there Gary - Revell did well with seam placement to help out a little.

How is the detail in the motors?

I am interested in how you go painting around the undercarriage struts, always a difficult task for me.

Work progresses slowly on the Ford Trimotor.  Everything's together and awaiting some final seam sanding.  The kit fit together fairly well, except for the wind screen.  The Perfect Plastic Putty has done a good job of filling the few problem spots.  A final coat of Aluminum and she'll be ready for final detailing.

Thanks for looking!  Have a Happy Easter!

Thanks Cliff!

Gary, it's a shame you won't be able to see the cockpit. It is coming together well, and it looks like Revell have done well with their placing of the seam lines with the corrugations.

Piers: That's amazing work! Great tribute to the famous aircraft! And from a vac-form kit no less. WOW!!! Bow Down

Gary: Great start on the Trimotor! She's coming along well!

Sorry guys I haven't been around. I haven't been in much of a modeling mood. Need to get some stuff done and get back to my Type 89.

Work on the Ford Trimotor continues unabated.  I've had to stop and think about what I intend to do, but so far it's relatively trouble free.  I'll see what happens when I attach the wing, but I'm hoping the Perfect Plastic Putty will solve that.

However, I couldn't abide no having a pit, so I scratched one up.  Not great, but with the wing on you'll hardly see it.

With the wing in position:

Note I didn't try to scratch an interior for her, I just painted the cabin black and added some curtains on the windows.  It'll do.

That's all for now.

That's some beautiful work.  You'd never believe that's a vac-u-form kit!  Congratulations, Piers!

Thanks Cliff, and i have just lurched over the line.

Not happy with the finish on the side windows, needed a better edge, cleaned it up as best I could with toothpicks etc.

Being a vacform it was an interesting build and fitting it all together taucht me some new language. I definitely need a well engineered kit whatever my next project is. I found the DrawDecal decals great again, but needing to be treated carefully to stop them curling up on themselves - although fortunately they are very tough to go with it.

I do like the look of the Tri Motor Gary, that should be a nice build. True Cliff, the corrugations could make it interesting - lets hope the designers were smart when they designed the kit...

The Winnie Mae is getting oh so close, a few last things to be added and then she will be done.
