Great start Gary, looking good. How small is the model?

I know what you mean Ferg, there is always a long list in the backlog. That's why this GB started a couple of months later than I intended...

So no worry about starting in the short term folks.

Gary, looks like that could be an intricate build, get out the optivisor for that!

Piers, I could say the same for that vac-u-form kit!  Well, at least you've got it cut out!  Big Smile

Decided to start on the DC-3, which is probably the smallest kit I have ever worked on.

I started by giving the interior a flat black finish as there's not much to see inside.  Then I masked the windows by cutting a strip of masking tape approximately the width of the windows and cutting out small strips to cover each one.  (I apologize for the poor photos.)

I then glued them and the tail-planes to both fuselages.

Except for a small part (cargo bay?) I'm ready to glue the fuslages together.  I've found that they don't mis-align as much as I had feared.  Still, I need to be careful.

Hope to have the fuselage and wings done tonight.

Thanks for looking!

Gamera

Piers: That looks cool. As I've said I haven't had the courage to tackle a vac-form kit. I've stumbled around with vac-form parts and didn't like them- the idea of a whole kit made out of them gives me the willies. Looking forward to seeing how you do this.

Dodgy: Good luck- looking forward to whatever you decide to go with.

Nothing to show here. Guess I should get started but I have a bunch of GBs that end at the end of 2022 that I really need to finish up.

Amen to that mate! I've still got the Kate, King Tiger, Boeing 247, U99 and the Sopwith Baby to finish.

Ferg, not the SSK!

Bugger, well looking forward to the new victim...

I have started on the Vega, first step was to mark out each part and then cut them out.

Well Piers old mate, I'm going to have to come up with a new subject because I could only find part of the SSK, which is really disappointing. I'll let you know what it is when I work it out.

Mach1, I like the sound of the 6-rad, let me know the details

John, that looks like good detail on the SBD-1, good to see it come together.

Here's the starter post for my Accurate Miniatures SBD-1.  The arrester hook is short shot right in the middle but that won't be an issue because I bought several extra AM SBD's when a seller was posting them at low prices from stocks that came after AM stopped production.

lostagain, I have a 6-rad I'd like to join with if markings from an unknown unit on training in 1937 are OK.

That vac-u-form kit is a real challenge I think, LA.  I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Thought I would go ahead and post an image of the kit I've entered for this GB.  It's the Roden 1/144 scale Douglas DC-3.  A tiny model, but it can be built into a nice representation of the real thing.  Of course, it just barely makes it into the GB requirements as TWA didn't start flying them until 1937.

About the kit.  I'll benefit from prior builds of the Roden kit in the C-47/DC-3 GB.  Appears the tiny parts are a bit tricky, especially the landing gear.  And the fuselage halves need to be watched as the pins don't line up (I haven't checked this personally).  Plus, the decals tend to shatter, so I wonder if spraying them with Decal Bonder might solve that probem.  We'll see.  Better make a scan of them before beginning.

It will be a couple of weeks before I can begin on this as I have other commitments to finish, but I'll stay active.

Here is my first entry for the GB, a cross over with Steve's Lockheed build.

Rareplane's 1/72 Lockheed Vega as 'Winnie Mae' with Drawdecal decals. Vacforms are always fun, so let's see how it goes!

Thank goodness Gary, if you didn't, I'd have to go out and buy one!

I might anyway....

Put me down for a Roden 1/144 scale DC-3.  Nothing says "Between the Wars" like a DC-3.  Big Smile

That is annoying John, I do like that one you have there - which kit is that?

I will put you down for the AM SBD-1

It's the Minicraft 1/48 long nose XF5F kit, Piers.

This GB is starting a month too late!  Here's a yellow wing I'm working on now, but I have an AM SBD-1 I can do for this GB.

That thing is cool! It's like a land battleship! The T-35 would have been interesting to see in combat had it worked better...

Nice, another pre-war armor buddy! What's the history on the T-35?

From my cliffnotes research, it was apparently a rather unsuccessful attempt at making a 5 turreted heavy tank.  I don't think they made very many, so all were consolidated to a unit or two in the Ukraine area where they all basically broke down or were destroyed early on during the Barbarossa invasion.

This think looks like it will be a monster of a kit, looking forward to it.

I found a kit at the LHS the other day that suits this, I am in with a Hobby Boss 1/35 Soviet T-35 Heavy Tank (the Before 1938 kit)

The second one certainly catches the interest-I give ya that!

KJV, that is a great subject from a little known conflict, be great to have it in the mix. No problem if you are not building until next year, as long as you are started before 1 August 2023. Just let me know the kit and scale and I will get you on the roster.

Thanks for the heads up on the badges, I'll try change some settings later to see if it helps.

I see the badges are coming through now; I like the second one! :)

Thanks for the welcome! It's gonna be one of these two tanks (both 1/35, Mirage Hobby models):

Y'all's votes?
