DJ,
The damage to the PM Ta 183 and the wasted AlcladII are part of modeling, the Ta 183 might be fixed and will look good from one side and the AlcladII can be replaced, but the real damage is the lost modeling time. I have many kits, decals, paint, glue, and airbrushes but time is in very short supply.

BTW, Friday I got my order from Roll Models and now have the Academy Me 163 kit for Mad Komet Day.
Also in that order were the 1/48 scale Luftwaffe airfield carts I had been wanting to add to my airfield. These carts are made from resin and PE and are very well detailed, but I have almost no experience with PE parts so building these carts will be interesting.

ME 163s
BV P 211
BV 40
Stummehabicht

Matrixone, yes, you are right, time can not be replaced! Glad you got your Komet!

Speaking of Komets, Jeff, that makes you eligible for Mad Komet Day in January 2005..?! Could we tempt you??! In any case, this list of yours looks very promising and exciting. The Triebflugel is I think, a very beautiful machine, in particular...

Jeff, it's on the 17th of Jan 2005, a Sunday. But we allow some flexibility..

Well, here's the completed Floh..!

There are more pics in the main aircraft forum. It was a real blast to build this kit, despite the little problems I encountered... I hope you like it!

Jeff,
I can't recall seeing any BV 211's built in a long time, that might be a good choice.
What kit and scale? Special Hobby made a 1/72 scale BV 211 a few years back and I still have mine on my build pile.

DJ,
That Floh looks great, that propeller on it is very well done.
Glad to see this plane in camouflage colors instead of the light gray the full size plane had which looked a little boring.

Wow! I'm gone for the weekend, and look at the good stuff that happened! A new member, the Floh is finished, and matrixone- okay, maybe that's not such a good thing. Anyway, let's see if I can address a few things-

Jeff- Welcome to this GB! Yes, this GB is as alive as I've ever seen it. Your list is very impressive, and I hope to see some of them built soon. True, some like the Me 163 won't work. I even admit it saw too much combat to qualify for this GB. Save it for Mad Komet Day. I'll have to look up the Me 163S, but other than that everything looks good.

DJ- Good to see the Floh is finished. .... Dang, that is one ugly airplane!

Ghettochild- I'm not really a ship kind of guy, but I still think that Titanic looks great. Nice job.

I had a flash of inspiration today while looking at some pics of the Ar 234. I got to looking at the RATO packs and thought- why not? I have a decent pic of one from my trip to D.C., and if I can find a few in 1/72 (one way or another), I could easily add them to my project. I'm sure the Ju 290Z could have used them!

We
Shall
See.

Part B...

More good news- the modem is fixed, and pics are being attempted to be uploaded- (being attempted.... never mind) as we speak. Here we go.

Okay, it's being stupid again. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. Anyway...

I also test fitted one of the floor sections into one of the fuselages. It really stiffens up the entire structure when attached. It should be good.

I also have a dilemma- I'm only putting in the outside waist guns, that's a given. But the ones I'm using require you to cut out a larger window. My problem-
-Cut out all four windows and leave out the interior guns to support the fact this aircraft was made from two previous airframes. It will allow more light to the interior, and make the other guns more visible.
-Only cut out the exterior windows, and fill the interior holes with the provided "glass". It still works with the two airframe theory, but changes for the fact the waist positions were altered after the aircraft was built.

This is minor, really. I don't mind either way, so why not get your opinion?

Okay, I think that's it. Geeze, you're out of the loop for two days and look what happens!

For observation purposes only (for the crew!), I'd leave the inside windows on.

Okay, one of the pictures did go through-

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/LHprs/100_0425.jpg[/image]
Here's the Me 328 carrage detail. You can see where the turrets have been filled in, and how the carrige is built to slide when it is eventually hooked up to a switch. The black mark on the side is where the switch will go, and in fact where it was installed last night. Some work remains on the turrets, some hole still need to be filled. Hopefully the two other pics I took will be forthcoming.

Okay, for once the photo hosting site let me upload some stuff. Here it is-

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/LHprs/d49752d3.jpg[/image]
This is the new sig photo. All eight engines are fitted, and the roof (that you already saw) is on.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/LHprs/a168ab13.jpg[/image]
This one goes with the picture in the post before this one. It's what the Me 328 looks like fitted. Sorry about the pic size. My mistake. Can't fix it, though.

Okay, that's it. Thanks, DJ. I'll probably do that. (I told you I didn't care one way or another!)

Frosty- Glad to hear you're still with us! It's been a long time since I saw that flying wing, and I can't wait to see more progress! Wink [;)]

I got all eight wheels glued together today, and all sanded up. Unlike the engines, however, these are only one color! (Thank God...) I'm actively looking into a regulator so I can start on the interior. Paint is really the only thing halting progress right now.

And you're right about the size. Once it's all finished I'll need to take a comparison shot of it next to my B-36 to show exactly how big. The Peacemaker (1/72) has only got about five inches on the Ju 290Z for wingspan length. It most certainly would have been the largest aircraft of WWII before the introduction of the B-36 had the War gone on longer.

I'm in a search for 1/72 RATO packs right now to include on this monster, ones like these:
[image]http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/axis/luft/tucker287c.jpg[/image]
If any of you have any you could afford to let go, or know anyone who does, I would really appreciate it. As far as I know the only kits I've seen that have these are from the shown Ju 287 Huma kit, the 1/72 Me 323 Italeri kt (Eight of them! I think this one is discontinued, though.), and the 1/72 Matchbox Arado Ar 234 kit. Hm. Either expensive, old, or both. But still, someone probably has some somewhere.

Lucien, my LHS has the Matchbox Ar234, but that is on the wrong side of the pond!

That Huma Ju 287 looks stunning. I keep looking at the box in my LHS, as I have always been intrigued by that bird. It would be an ideal candidate for this GB, especially now the book is out. Howver both kit and book are somewhat expensive, with the kit retailing at $25/$45 and the book being £40/$72!!!!

Maybe one day.

KJ- If you don't have any qualms about ebay, check this out-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1189&item=5931444066&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Last time I checked the bidding was at $15.50. It's a little cheaper.

The model was not built by me. I just used it to illustrate the RATO packs I hope to somehow find. I agree, it is a nice model though.

Ok - I hate to do this but I'm gonna switch. I don't have either the Italeri X-35 or the Panda F-35B just yet (ordered last week) but I have in my hot little hands a Mitsubishi XT-2!! Found it while going to the LHS for some paint supplies. It's just like the company's (Hasegawa) T-2 kit, just the packaging is different & there's the white metal instrumentation probe. Should be pretty straightforward. I still want to do a Japanese F-35. Maybe when the deals are more solid Tamiya, Hasegawa or Fujimi will come out with one so I don't have to mix & match decals! Lodni- A lot of these aircraft you guys are coming up with I've never even heard of before- that's a good thing! I figured you get a lot of weird aircraft with this kind of topic. I searched a few pics of the XT-2, and it looks like a sweet airplane. I can't really tell, but is it VTOL?

I secured eight RATO bottles for the Zwilling today. I'm just waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Now, where to put them, and still have room for four Hs 293s...

Progress has been slow on my two Ta 183s but slow progress is better than none at all.
This weekend has been so nice outside that I was able to mow the lawn, clean the gutters, wax one of my vehicles, and even take a few pictures of my models.
Normally the weather here on the Oregon coast is very wet and often windy so when its nice outside I take advantage of it.

I was able to do more airbrushing on the Ta 183s today but since I am painting a multi-colored camouflage paint scheme in an attempt to try for a ''patchwork'' paint job this is not a quick process but might be worth the extra effort when its done.

Here are two of todays new pics...

Nice pics, Matrixone! and no, Mike, it is not VSTOL. It is a very conventional a/c designed as a trainer/light strike, air defence bird (similar in concept to the Jaguar). The design & a/c now are fairly dated and most of the one's in the strike/air defence role will be phased out soon, hence the need for a modern replacement. That's where the F-35 steps in.

Nice pix, Matrixone! Nothing to report on the Rafale A since I've been working on the Siskin instead (easier!) and had to spend some time working on patterns for a customer. I'm hoping to spray a new primer coat sometimes this week!

Thanks lodni_k and DJ,
Last night I did more work on the Ta 183s and after cleaning my airbrush I wanted to check the fit of the canopy of the PM kit to see how much might need trimmed before I dip it in Future when I realized I lost the canopy! I searched about an hour and did find it, but I've really got to clean off some of the clutter from my work table!

matrixone- The pics, as always, are great. What's that in the second one? A Flitzer?

No progress on the Zwilling. I was checking things and found out the Trappoklappe might be an issue with fit, but we'll see when we get there. I did find a local place that sells regulators, and found a good one for just over $20. I'll try to scrape up the money before Christmas to buy one. Then on to painting the interior, and hopefully major progress on the interior.

Thanks Thad and Lucien!
I did not really make any real progress on my Ta 183s so I took some pics of my older builds instead, I want to be able to photograph my models and make them look as realistic as possible so I try to get as much practice as I can to gain more experience.

Lucien,
That jet in my pic is the 1/72 scale Revell ''Flitzer'', a great kit to build if you can find it... I think it is currently OOP.
