. The XP-55 just needs a lot of tlc to go together. It'll be fine in the end. Btw: you are not originally from the USA? Kind of figured Lucien was a french name. Then again I get that a lot too, and I'm not french, lol.

Woodbeck, I gather your name is Jeff? N.p. if you don't want to join in yet. Wish I could help you with first hand experience on those detail sets. I have the Osprey modelling manual on the P-51, and the planes in there use sets from both manufacturers. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Are you going for a nmf? Sounds like my approach: my first kit ever (at the age of 7 or 8) was an Airfix Stirling bomber: the biggest one I could find! Hey, at least there's a challenge, right? Let me know how you get along.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry but I will just watch this. My first model coming back will be Hasegawa's 1:48 P-51D Kit. I have a question though. Being Typical Jeff about this after 15 years away I want to jump in feet first and hope I hit the deep dark water. I want to buy a detail kit to get my hands wet with those and see that both Verlinden and Eduard have them for this kit. Which is the better of the two in terms of good detail and total of detail throughout the model?

As far as my efforts are concerned: alas no pics yet. Fit on the XP-55 is not as good as I had hoped. Needed to drill holes, insert pins, superglue, sand, and fill. And that's just for the wing, lol. All should be well in the end though.

I'm just finishing a Ar555, which I'll try and post photos of.

Just thinking of all the Revell & Huma Luft'46 kits in my LHS.

Added to which I am currently working on a Fw190 with Hagelkorn glide bomb, which I think counts as a prototype.

Count me in!!!!

Just find a kit, a camera, and start building! There is absolutly no worries about a time crunch. This is a GB with no finish date. I plan to try and keep this thing going as long as I can. Hey, I don't even have a kit yet! Sad [:(]

This group build is all about no pressure, so just go for it. As far as pics are concerned, that's a bit of a problem on my side, but I'll borrow a camera in a while. Then I'll shoot my whole collection in one go I guess, lol.

I would like to say this is some very interesting stuff. I have been away from plane modeling for more then 15 years and just now I am looking to start up again. So far all I have is the starting of my tools and supplies, spending a good chunk of my budget on a new airbrush and a testors compressor. When I left modeling do to family traveling after market detail kits where just really being accepted, now as I research my head is spinning, almost literally with all the options out there. I won't be joining this project but I will certainly watch it, daily maybe ;). I have never seen a group build before and I think it's the COOLEST idea. Please everyone who does this put some Pics where I can see em ;). Thanks for hearing me and I hope to see this thing take off for you all. -Jeff

Just painted the underbelly of the Me-328....waiting for the paint to dry.....working on the Dornier too....

Setting up my interweb site with my ISP....should have piccies soon! Big Smile [:D]

As for the Do-335....exellente....will get cracking on that when I've finished this it's a good kit...detailed engines and cockpit....still interested in the Blooming Vase 170, but a bit expensive.....
...saw a Bf-109Z Zweeling (two Me-109 airframes nailed together ) at a good price....that's also on my list now....
......hmmmm...must start looking for a trophy cabinet......hmmmmm

The Do 335 would be a great idea for this Group Build. One of my favorites, actually. It more than qualifies. I don't like putting down a lot of restrictions. I'd rather just let people do their own thing. Good luck everyone on everything!

norite- I'm really hoping for some pics of your progress pretty soon! It would give me some idea on how to do the Me 328 on my as-yet not started project! Big Smile [:D]

I have the old Monogram Do 335 1/48 scale kit I was thinking about building for the group build, I want to build the nightfighter version. I also was wandering if this would qualify for this group build.

I'm afraid my prototype project is a little lame compared to the others here, but I've got a Typhoon 1B which is gonna be built as the sole night fighter prototype. Unfortunately I can find no information on the cockpit differences, so the only alterations will be a bunch of aerials, drop tanks, and that way cool night fighter scheme in overall med sea grey with green camo. Unfortunately it is some way down the queue so it will be a while yet!!!

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

According to this website, you are right. Although some production aircraft were built, they never became operational. To be sompletely on the safe side, you could always go for the paper project for a high-altitude version that was to use a bigger wing.... I suppose Lucien has the final say in this matter, but I won't tell if you don't. Wink [;)]

Does a Dornier Do-335 A-1a "pfeil" count for this build?

I'm asking coz I went to the model shop today for some filler, they didn't have any, but I saw this weirdo twin engined plane (Revell, 1:72 scale) with two propellers one at the front and one at the back and got it...oops...couldn't help myself....If it's OK, I'll start it after my Dorny-messy misteltoe build....

It was a prototype, never entered production and it has the distinction of holding the world speed record for the fastest piston-engined plane ever at 775km/h!!!

Yes! Build it! Luft '46 stuff is one of my favorite subjects, and it's something I hoped someone would do when I started this thing!

And about the Me 328 canopy question, I'm here to lend my own opinon.
I have seen pictures of the Me 328 with canopy frames, and if that's kind your doing, I can't help you. However, the version I plan to do is slightly different...

This is the kit I plan to use (because of the short-span wings), and as you can see, the canopy is one piece. This could be because of a discrepency with the model company, or it could really be a cockpit version actually used. Whatever the case, you can see it opens (most likely) like the Komet.

This is the box top of norite's current project. The canopy arrangement (no frames) is the same. Just pointing it out. Maybe there's a frame on the kit part, I don't know. You're the one with the kit!

All right you guys, you're on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've just got to finish a RAAF F-4E, and I have a S-37 Berkut finished, but it needs a repaint, and I've got Su-27 markings for it. I will call it a Su-47 "Fiction" in Ukerainian AF markings. I have not got a digital camera, I will chase one up. This should be fun!!! I just may start my Arado 555, perhaps after I move. Please keep this challange an open ended affair, as it could get quite interesting!!!!!!!!! Tongue [:P]

LOL, thanks...I've been looking myself...I can see a canopy frame, so I assume that either:
a) the front half is fixed, and that the back half either slides back - Like a spitfire or Hurricane, or

b) it flicks over to one side like a Me-109 Me-163

It's the prototype Me-328 V1 glider

Sorry Norite, looked for an hour but I can only find a few of the same pics, all with the canopy closed. Sad [:(]

I have discovered that:
a- there was something called an Me-328
b- it came in three versions
c- their canopies differed somewhat.
d- none survived.
But then, YOU knew that, lol.

The Me-328 - how does the canopy open? Does it slide back, or does the whole thing open like the Me-163 Komet?

Nearly finished the Me-238 cockpit, painted seat and controls...I used thin masking tape to make harnesses...took a picture of it, but it didn't come out.... Sad [:(]

if i can get my other group builds out of the way (concorde, SAS Landrover(small vehicle gb,EE Lightning NMFgb, Airspeed Horsa d,day gb) i'll be in on this. i have got three model Saab grippens all with prototype markings in o i'll probably do one of those, not sure yet tho so put me down as a possable.
