Hi everyone. No, I have not abandoned, I'm just like everyone else, in that I'm not getting much bench time in the last week or so.

Hey everyone, is anyone else having trouble posting images? I was using Ron George's photo hosting service, but I can't log in, my username and password do not work (was using "newfsm" and "models").

I have decided to "scavenge" parts off my broken F-14A; I'm going to build two sets of wings, one w/ flaps and slats extended, one with flaps/slats retracted, so that I can display the model with wings forward and with wings swept. Also, I got Squadron white putty on the windshield, it is fogged up pretty well. I'll use the piece from the -A kit.

I have got the fuselage assembled, there's a horrible, horrible gap with the bottom "filler piece", that sort of ties the forward and rear fuselage together on the bottom. There was a huge ridge, probably 1/32", between the main fuselage and the filler piece. I had to use the "Dreaded Dremel" on that, ugh.

Hope everyone is avoiding the nasty colds going around.

My Revell kit is just about ready for paint. All that is left is to add a few ECM antennas, assemble the landing gear and weapons, and it'll be good to go. Haven't made much progress on my Hasegawa F-14B, but I'll kick that one into high gear as soon as I get a coat of paint on the Revell kit.

No, definitely not abandoned... well maybe my work bench feels abandoned. It's been one of those weeks, bstrump. I've nearly gone two weeks without build time. With so much going on at work and around the house I figure I'll just stuff the bench into the briefcase and try it there.
Sign - Welcome [#welcome]sentry!!!! There is no such thing as too late to join this build. Welcome aboard!
Well, fellas, I hope I have not been dissapointing you but I promise to get to the bench sometime soon and get that fuselage finished. My nest thing is to tame that pesky seam on the Academy.
How's your cat's coming along pingtang, reggie, steve, et al?
Mark(ipms33206) things finally settle down? If not, I am in the same boat!

I am here. I have not abandoned this GB. I have not been able to make much progress with work garbage, but I am plugging away. I have my forward fuselage together with the cockpit installed. So far I have been fairly lucky that not much filler has been needed. I am sure that may change as I get farther into this build. Below is my A-4E that I managed to complete. It is the old Monogram kit that has a jillion fit issues.

At least the decals are cool! They are Superscale.

I know that Black Magic sells pre-cut masks for the canopys for the Monogram 1/48th. Check out meteorprod.com. There is a complete listing there of all the pre-cuts masks they produce.

Hey everyone! Made great progress on my builds this weekend. The F-14A has received it's wash and flat overcoat, the landing gear is prepared and the exhaust cans are ready. The F-14B is coming along nicely, too. The wings are assembled, the seams are puttied and the shoulder pylons are mounted. I should have some updated progress pics soon.

I did get a few in the last couple of days, but I haven't had a chance to update the site yet. Which one was yours? I'll go back and check through my files.

Cheers,

hehehaha- she went to work claiming not to know anything and she had a lot to do. My desk must be empty. Doubt it. Anyways- oil guys came, couch guys came, and things are getting better. We have the gas logs but they are unvented and I hate the stench- gets to my allergies. I'll have to remind her about the sheets thing. Nice one, Mitch!

Dan-

If you mean the 1/48 kit, it is a very nice, kit, although you'll probably want to re-scribe the forward fuselage. The panel lines are fictitious, to say the least. However, it's a very nice kit, and despite the usual problems with any F-14 kit (particularly the intakes), I think you'll like it. At ARC, there is a pinned post in the Jet Modeling forum which will give you a more detailed rundown on the kit Hope this helps!

How's this for a Monday morning:
Run out of fuel oil (realtor said that 500 gal tank was full when we bought it, 7 months ago- we only have run it for two months really, we keep the house at 67 in winter. I think she is going to foot the bill)
Sewer guys are tearing up front yard because neighbors are a little too regular- funny thing is they are not doing anything but standing around and looking in the big-@#S hole!!!!!!
Couch delivery guys are morons who cannot find a house that is REALLY easy to find.

Sucks to wake up and it's 46 degrees in the house! To dang cold to airbrush so I guess I'm stuck sitting on my keister. Monday sucks.

Just so everyone knows, I was not trying to create animosity with my postings about Swanny's canopy masking methods. I have found that things like that almost seem "magical" to me, because when I try them I end up with a big frosted mess of goo.

Especially, an apology to Steve Filak, Sr. and the comment about "child's play". I was just kidding, it was meant to be light-hearted.

As for my Tomcat, I may end up "harvesting" parts from my currently-defunct A model. If you remember that big canyon in front of the pilot's instrument panel cover, I test fit the canopy on that, over fresh, wet putty, and I now have a frosted windscreen. I may end up using the windscreen from the A kit. Also, I may get the wings from that kit, and have two sets to be interchanged, one with flaps up for swept display, and one with flaps and slats down, for forward display. I really prefer the looks of the 'Cat with wings forward.

This may end up being the most expensive (single) 1/48 F-14 in this forum.

Ooooh, is that a 'nekkid woman I spy on the decal sheet? Tongue [:P]

OK, OK y'all...it seems the BMF method has more support than Swanny's method, I concede. I did try Swanny's method, and while it's a bit slow, it is not complicated. For the record, I have not tried the BMF method.

I'm gonna eat my humble pie now....

Cont on with this weekends update. A bottom view of the main fuselage. This kit is going together much easier than the 48th version from this company. The engineering is different than Hasegawa's version. Really a couple of more steps and she could be ready for the paint shop. Not bad for an F-14 kit, with a lot of pieces and as detailed as it is.

As mentioned I was originally going to do a VF-32 bird, but I forgot that I still had this VF-41 sheet from Super Scale. And opted to use them instead.

One other item I did install the instrument panel coamings painted black. The canvas covers will be painted later. Next to work on the seams, add the lower strakes and tails. More images next week.

Thx Bstrump: Yes those are the marking I will be using for this build.
Super Scale Sheet #72-650, Desert Storm F-14's VF-84 and VF-41 off the USS Roosevelt. In this case VF-41. Already used the the other set.
And in response to the canopy mask. Though Swanny's technique is very good, it's just that a technique. I for one think it is too complicated (and expensive), and pretty much stick with bstrumps assesment and use my own technique and been doing so for years and have been satisfied with it. Everyone has their own variations and thats ok. Thats what this site is all about, and Swanny's site is excellent.

Scott:

Go to ARC home page, and at the top click "gallery"...next page, click "jet aircraft". Then scroll down until you see "F-14", click on it. The specific one about which I've ranted is a little past halfway down, it has a blue banner and "feature". The title is "1/48 Hasegawa F-14A Tomcat VF-84 'Jolly Rogers' Last Cruise"...it's a black tailed bird.
