Pastels are very useful, but the "easy off" can be a mixed blessing. Sometimes they come off when you don't want them to Smile [:)].

Thanks for the info on british interior green Tom and Rick.

I also use pastels. I like the effects I can get with them. The easy off isn't a problem if you spray a very light coat of flat clear over the model after weathering.

Sean, Great job on the 109 Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] that camo scheme looks absolutely fantastic. Thanks also for the run down on the smoke method, I am definitely going to give that a whirl (maybe even on the Spitfire). Also, a quick question, what alcohol do you use?

Daniel, cool link thanks a lot for that. Also tee paint that I use for all my RAF/RAAF interiors is Model Master Enamel RAF Interior Green 2062.

Tanky, I've been playing around with both. The exhaust stains on my 109 were Tamiya smoke thinned 50/50 with Tamiya thinner and built up in light coats. Pastels I mainly use for panel fading etc.

Something completely off topic now, did anybody else read that Hase are releasing a 1/72 Lancaster as the next in their 1/72 bombers series. 1/72 or not, that one will be a must have for me.

Cheers
Darren

I posrted the Lancaster announcement over on the AC Forum yesterday. It will be a must for me as well. Noting Hasegawas' past business practices, you can bet that more than one variant will be in the works. I'm hopeful that the kits are successful enough to encourage Hasegawa to continue with the bomber series. I would love to see a new tool, high quality B-26 & Do-17, for example.

knowing Tweety and the hardship he endured before he finally escaped Happy Acres.... it would be Jamesons Irish Whiskey... makes the paint reaaaallll smooth! not an unpleasant odor either!

Hmmmm why did i decide to do this Stuka, because i needed some putty practice before i take on the Sabre thats why..........The engine cowl on this thing doesn't seem to go together that well despite the time i spent cleaning it up, i've come to the conclusion that the only reason for the multitude of parts that make up the engine cowl is so different parts can be used to make later model Stukas with the same wings and fueselage.........
Anyways i'm gonna have to do some major filling and will have to rescribe some panel lines that just have to be there......

BTW can you scribe over puttyQuestion [?] i use revell Plasto

Jules, scribing putty isnt a problem.
Did ALOT of it on the Sabre.
Just have to remember to go lightly with the pressure, otherwise it tends to 'chunk' out of the line, leaving a ragged crusty looking edge.

Darren I use the Viponds Iso, it comes in a 1 litre container.

The one next to it is the only retarder I could find that worked with acrylic paints through my airbrush.
Took 4 months, and around $180 worth of retarders being bought and ditched, but finally found a winner!!!!
And yes, I tried the Irish whiskey, but couldn't stop spraying it into my mouth!!!
Maybe I should try mixing it with some Kiwi and Lime, whatcha reckon TomWink [;)]

Tweets - like you said... I'm not sure that Kiwi would take kindly to you spraying him with lime juice... Wink [;)]

hmmm... maybe I need to come up with a future and thinner drink recipe book...

They're good aren't they. I've been using them for a while and use them alot. They even come out well after brushing them on (that's the best bit, because I get too lazy to clean my AB.)

PingtangI didn't think you could brush paint them?

MDC, who sell Gunze in the UK reckon they are AB only, without a need to thin. Must admit mine sprayed beautifully straight out of the bottle.

I put the cockpit together last night, so I'm hoping to get the fuselage together over the weekend, and probably the wings on. Just need to cut the ailerons out of the upper wing halves.

Well Tom, the lil' Kiwis you can run away from, it's the big buggers you gotta watch out forBlack Eye [B)]
They tend to lean towards 'cranky' when any sort of citrus is poised in their general directionWink [;)]

Jules, I'm hanging to see some pics, heard alot of yak bout this Stuka, need some hard stuff nowSmile [:)]

Karl, why cut the ailerons out of the upper wing halves, why not the bottom too. are you going ot reposition them? I just cut the edges in to give them a "separate from the rest of the wing" look.

Alright!!! Another He 111. Didn't know that was what you were working on Thad. You can never have too many 111's. Looks great so far. I take it you have the primer coat on already? Is it the Monogram 1/48 kit like Bob's?

Anyway, got most of the decals on mine last night except for the ones I'm trying to make myself. I've practised with a couple of experiments and think I have it down. Just takes time to let the ink dry. I'm trying to do a He 111 H-6 from I/KG 26 based out of Norway. Going away this weekend though so no pics until after that.

Question: what do you all recommend for a flat top coat? I haven't been too happy with what I've been using so I was going to try Tamiya flat base mixed with future next. What kind of mixture should I use?

For a flat top coat, I've been using Polly Scale clear flat acrylic with good results. ModelMaster makes a similar product, but I prefer the Polly Scale.

Thanks for the recommendation Rick, is that a spray can or bottle? I know one of the LHS' here carries Polly Scale so I'll check it out.

Edit: BTW, little one is sick today so while looking after him I counted all my models. I'm up to 67 I believe. Shock [:O] Didn't think I had that many!! Only 333 to go to catch up to you! Big Smile [:D]

Dave, it is the same kit as everyone else's, mine is just being a pain in the neck, but it is keeping me sharp. I use the (MM) top coat Rick spoke about, I also have the Polly S, I like them both. They both come in a bottle.

Here's a couple of progress pics on my second build. This one is the 1/48 Hasegawa Hurricane Mk. I. The pit is OOB except for the seat & armorplate which are Ultracast resin replacements.

Nice instrument panel Rick, very impressive!
Those Ultrcast seats really look the goods in the hands of someone with experience.
