Jay, looking foward to the pics. Progress on my Hurricane has been non-existant as well. Try ing to finish up a couple of other builds, then get back to it.

Sounds like everybody has the same problem. I just finished one gb, now maybe I can get some work done on this one.

Tweety - so YOU'RE the one who nabbed those disks of pics from my computer desk!! Wink [;)]

Bob - thanks for the link! and about your camera, if you check up on setting it to macro mode that'll help you a lot, your pics looked good but a little closer in they'd look even better!!! again congrats on getting a good camera!!

Hmmm... this 109 thing is taking off! should I? I mean the last 109 I built was around 1989 or so in my previous modeling life....

Rick - know what ya mean about no time to build... I keep hoping to get a good section done to motivate me but it's only been bits and pieces so far!

Who is it that keeps suggesting these new group builds? I know I don't have to join them, but you all make it so hard to resist. The NA GB (sounds like Nag build), sounds good, and now so does this 109 build. Oh....Woe is me!!!

Rick Have you seen the new Hasegawa P-40E yet? If so, how's it look? I want to add one of them to my collection when it becomes available in Oz.

Tanky: Looking good!! Thumbs Up [tup] the only thing I would suggest is to maybe feather out those exhaust stains a little bit more. The inside stain on the right side looks just about right. If you can get the other ones to match it would be perfect. I look forward to seeing the decals on her.

looks good Tanky!!! you are becoming quite the accomplished modeler! I need to build my 111 one of these days... maybe I will throw it in the white tailed 109 build and call it a diorama as the white tailed 109 can be flying cover for it...

Daniel - I know nothing, I see nothing, I hear nothing!!! Blindfold [X-)]Taped Shut [XX]Whistling [:-^] these group builds have a life of their own!!!

Nice looking progress Tankmaster. Weathering looks good.

Okay onto some progress of my own. I had the camera out today, so I thought I'd take some pics of where I'm at with my Mk.1 Spitfire. So far I've done the port sidewall, some of the seat frame, the seat and the rear bulkhead. Hope youlike it so far:

Tanky, Looking good. Nice work so far.

Daniel, looks like some good progress. Keep us posted. I picked up two of the new 1/48 Hasegawa P-40E kits a couple of weeks ago. It is beautifully molded & comes with a PE fret for seat belts & some other details. Decals are fair, typical Hasegawa. Only downside is that the kit is engineered so that other variations can be kitted from the same basic molds. This means that the fuselage is a multi piece affair so that future insert molds will give other models with minimum tooling cost. Looking at the layout, it's obvious that an N model ( already announced ), an M and probably an L & K are possible future releases. Dry fitting shows that the parts fit very well, but the seams are not on panel lines, which means some filling & smoothing will be required. Overall first impression is very favorable, but the proof will be in actually building one.

Regards, Rick

Geez Rick now I'm really jealous, I am hanging out to get my hands on one of those kits but the boss has a complete buying embargo on me at the moment. I don't think I would survive if another package arrived from Great Models.

Here's a link to a review that gives the kit a great wrap

I got some more work completed on my spit today. I've finished the starboard side wall and the floor with rudder pedals. Now I've gotta find a good match for British interior green. Anyone know of a good reference for the colour, I might have to do a bit of mixing for this one.

Hope you like it, and let me know what you think.

Jay-thanks for the comment.

Tom-will break out the camera and play as time allows-may post additional pics when successful. Probably should just let my 11 yr. old read the manual and debrief me!

The 'proposed' 109 GB has my interest-running out of room on my schedule though....just need to give up sleeping I guess.

Whoa hold-o-stoppo. I think I gotta go to AB school again. I finally was able to bring it out and do some spraying with it. I have forgotten much! It's not like I was a wiz before anyway. What is a good mix, 3 parts paint to 1 part thinner right? I remembered to wipe down the model yes, but I got a little heavy on the spray ! I guess I'll just have to play with it some more to get the right feel. I think better light would help too in my AB work space. Dead [xx(]

oh well, "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again" right? or was it "If at first you don't succeed then get all mad and break your tool in half, throw it on the ground, stomp on it and give up"

I'll get it yet.Smile [:)]

I laugh because I have an 11 yr old son and I have to do the same thing all the time!!! Glad I am not the only one.

Jay, If you are using acrylics you don't need to thin them at all. If you are using enamels then yes 2-1 or 3-1 depending on your paints. Keep your air pressure at about 15-20 psi (closer to 20 usually) and on the Paasche H close that nozzle until the paint is just barely coming out. Then open it more as you get familar with it.

Darren, Thanks for the post of the P-40 review. Kinda surprized he didn't mention the multi insert fuselage. Might mean it wasn't much of a problem.

Thanks Razor, I looked it up on the AB techniques area and that was the general consensus. I was getting the watery paint look, argh, I'll just have to paint over it. But does it work (not thinning) for different manufacuturers? I have tamya, MM and pollyS paints to work with.

It is a good idea to thin your paints a little.
I use Tamiya and Gunze acrylics exclusively, and thin both of them.
Usually 2/1 paint/thinner ratio, through an Omni 4000 a/b.

I use a custom thinner mix to help minimize tip dry, which is the biggest pain with acrylics.

Tweety - keep the disks.. Kremps decided to give it one more go and moved back in over here... Wink [;)]

Jay - I use either MM or Vallejo (Color of Eagles) acrylics... on the MM I do thin mine a bit but thats just personal preference... I know lots of people that don't so it works that way as well... Tamiya you have to thin, but with their thinner.. others use alcohol etc... but if you are just getting back into airbrushing with the thinner it is much more forgiving... it has a retarder in it that helps the drying spped by allowing the time for the paint to settle...

Bob - no rush! and I know what you mean about the 11 yr old thing.. I am a network admin for a large school district here in TX and the kids keep me busy trying to block them from totally taking over the network!!! And there's countless times I have walked by a room at a school and see a 5th grader showing a teacher how to get into such and such program...

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the BoB GB Flyingraptor & dstrebe, I've updated the first page with your builds. Don't forget, this group likes lots of progress shots and plenty of yapping (the topic is not all that important Big Smile [:D]).

Jay I use MM and Humbrol emamels and the advice on thinning ratios and air pressure that razor gave you is spot on. The only things I would add are, if you find the paint is coming out too thin, then add a bit more paint to the mix (a little at a time) until you are happy with it. Are you priming your models, if not you should? A primer will give the paint something to bite in to. Also, don't forget to keep the ab moving over your model so that the paint doesn’t get a chance to puddle.

Cheers

Thanks, Darson, Tweety and Tom, I'll try again tonight, maybe. As for Primer I have only really used a base coat of a light grey in the past. That is what I was planning on doing in this case but I guess I need to practise some more Big Smile [:D]
