In this completely pointless post, I will inform you folks that I'm going to have dinner now.

Tanky - whatya having for dinner? I haven't eaten yet so maybe I'll drop by your house!

Rick - Karl, I was just looking at the lights on my Typhoon and I have a sneaking suspicion the same will occur on mine... the lights look a bit wieldy for the area they are supposed to fit in...

I have the Eduard MASKS!!!

Oh yeah!!! BUT I was told by one of the friendly blokes at the hobby shop I frequent that I was being lazy. Then he opened up the 1:32 Revell Mirage III my lovely wife has purchased for me for our wedding anniversary and gave me some construction pointers Smile [:)] A bloke worth listening too as he is a very good modeller!

But lazy?...Sigh....OH well, he is right, I just cannot be bothered spending hours masking!

cheers

Mike

yeah I feel the same Mike... the MArtlet ended up being an easy enough mask but the time spent figuring out just HOW I was going to mask it.. and with what since it was Vallejo and I hadn't masked over it before was a chore...

Of course I dont believe thare would be masks for a Martlet out there, but I am contemplating them for my next RAF/FAA build. Unfortunately or fortunately (don't know which) the Typhoon for the Aussie build is all freehand... I'll just have to see how rusty my skills are after 15 yrs... (the last time I freehanded give or take a couple of yrs)

---edit---

hmmm I was just thinking... wonder how a cardboard mask held about 1/2 to an inch above the plane would work out... might be easier in the long run while giving pleasant results! it would still have some blurring at the edges that way...

Progress on my spitfire is going good. I have completed the cockpit and have the fuselage closed up. I have also done some surgery to the lower wings and inserted PE flaps, and now the wings are all glued together too. I also added the PE vents to the oil cooler and radiator on the wing under-surface. Might stick those wings to the fuselage today.

Tom That's how I used to do my feathered edge camo jobs, before I discovered the joy of freehand jobs that is. I cut bits of paper or cardboard in the shape of the camo, and then stuck them to the surface with the paper about a millimetre off the surface. Cave good results, but you have to be careful to spray all of the edges at the same angle. Otherwise you get some spots very feathered and some hard-edged.

What about poster putty? If you dont press it down too hard it gives a nice soft demarc line.

yeah I have used that but I was thinking about something a little more diffuse..

I dunno... maybe I will ditch it and make another Martlet Wink [;)]

Tom

I have used paper masks before with great success, giving a tight feathered edge. No good at freehand...yet

RAF aircraft had had edged demarcations between camo colours so hard masking is the only way I am afraid. Never used these masks before so hope they go well!!

cheers

Mike thaty was what I was thinking and I think I might have mentioned it in the Aussie GB... using thin cardboard masks and holding them 1/2" above the plane...

Yep, certainly an excellent method where tight feathered edges are needed.

You can do a similar thing with a mottle as well, by spraying through different shaped cut-outs.

Well, I got the dark green disruptive camo on the Hurricane. Gonna let it set for 24 hours, then do any touch up needed & follow with Future for decals. Hopefully, I'll post some pics by Sunday.

OK, I got future on my do-17! Yay! As usual with my future jobs, it's got some unnevenness, but it will disappear once the flat coat goes on.

Rick - a 2005 Nissan Xterra... they really went all out on this years model. It looks like a cross between the old Xterra with some of the Mercedes German Army vehicles... I've got a 2000 Xterra now and love it, not one thing has gone wrong with it. And it is the first car I've had that hasn't developed even a little knock in the engine after about 60k... only thing I''ve changed out on it is the front brakes...

This new Xterra also upped the HP from 170 to 265 so coming onto the freeway is not a touch and go thing anymore haha...

I just checked out that 500... nice looking car! kind of classy looking!!! congrats on the new car! And enjoy the new car smell!! Wink [;)]

Tom, I'm not that familiar with the Nissan, but it sounds great. We can both enjoy that new car smell Smile [:)].

Lucky buggers with your new cars. I have to drive a Holden VH Commodore around (1982 model). The worst thing is that it has the four cylinder motor in it.....talk about gutless. It's good for about 50bhp. It goes like a rocket down hill though, because it's a heavy beast of a thing. But, the weight doesn't do much for it's acceleration figures....Gotta stay away from those (up) hills. Unlike you Tom, pulling onto a street (let alone a freeway) is a touch and go affair. And, that new car smell left a long time ago (if it was ever there).

I must say though, that the brakes in it are excellent.Wink [;)]

cheers

Yeah...Those Falcons are nice cars, my dad has an EF. We just drove it to Melbourne and back (about 2000km all up), and didn't have a single problem. It avoided all of those dodgy Victorian drivers well. Only problem is, it is a Ford, not a HoldenWink [;)].

Back on topic though.....I glued the cockpit of my spitfire in last night and have cleaned up all the seams on the fuselage. The fit of this kit is so good, I haven't used any putty yet. The rear wing/fuselage joint on the underside might need a bit of work though. I might take some pics tommorrow, so you can all see what I've been up to.

Hi all,

Mine is a POS Nissan Pulsar 93 model and my wife’s is a 92 Toyota Camry which is a great family car BTW.

Anyway, enough car crap, I've got a little issue I need some help with please (and no it's not that rash, I've already got the ointment for that). I am busy decaling the Spit Mk.II at the moment and I am getting bad silvering under some of the decals due to the fact the I didn't use enough Future as a clear coat. Aside from removing the deacls which is not an option, does anybody have any suggestions? HELP

Cheers

Rick here's the link to it... my only fear this morning is the trailer hitch for this model is not out yet and I will have to wait until late summer or so to get my boat out...

http://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/ModelHomePage/0,,75847,00.html

hmm the Ford Falcon Futura.. I'm trying to figure out which model that would be in the US... It's funny but buddies in the Navy that were stationed in Japan said the racy sports cars like the 300ZX all had names like "Swallow" and "Butterfly" over there... not the macho names they have here in the US like "Viper" "Cobra" etc......

Darren - the only thing I could think of would be Microsol or the equivalent... it worked wonders on my SBD, I had one roundel do similar... other than that, the only thing I could think of MIGHT be thinned future.. it might run under the decal and help fill the bubbles.. but I doubt it.. Microsol would be right on I think... or Microset...

madmike, congratulations on the 500 Posts & shiney new star. You'll catch me if I don't start posting more Smile [:)].

Tom, looks like a great car. The Ford Falcon Futura is an Aussie vehicle, not imported in the US so far as I know.

Darren, that's a bummer. If all else fails, gently poke the decal a few places with the tip of a sharp #11 X-Acto & then reapply Micro Sol.

Daniel, looking forward to pics of your Spit.
