Got the camo on my spitfire done yesterday. Sprayed the dark earth (Gunze) early in the morning, then started my masking marathon later in the evening. Seemed like I was sitting there for ever cutting out bits of masking tape. When that was all done, I sprayed a custom mix of dark green. Well, here it is:

Gonna start decalling later on today. Hope you like it so far.

Daniel The Spit looks great.

How long did you leave the dark earth for before commencing with the masking? The reason I ask, is that I often find Tamiya masking tape leaves marks in the underlying Gunze paint even when left to dry overnight.

This is what has happened with the red nose flash on my Hurricane, so I'm going to have to retouch it by hand.

I did the final top coats on Friday, and followed up with the post shading on the panel lines. This didn't go quite to plan, so today will be spent tidying up a few errant areas of panel shading, as well as sorting the nose flash.

Hopefully Tuesday will see a coat of Future, though it being my birthday as well, there is no guarantee, especially not with the rumour of a large scale German jet touching down the same day!!!!!!Big Smile [:D]

Pingy Looks great mateThumbs Up [tup]so your like me, sitting for hours cutting those masks out.....Darren likes to rub in the fact that masking his Spit MK I with express masks only took him 10 minutes.............
Oh and Daniel The old girl told me your secret to but unlike Tom it's definatly most unsafe with meEvil [}:)]Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,]

Thanks Karl and Jules;

Karl I can't actually remember how long I left it now.....Can't remember if I painted it in the morning or the night before, but I did start masking in the late afternoon. I've never really had any trouble with taniya tape leaving marks on Gunze paints, even if I only let it dry for a few hours. I use Tamiya primers and thin them with tamiya thinner, so that might have something to do with it.

Jules Okay, if we're giving away secrets now, I might as well let one slip first. The other day, Kremps told me you were actually a blues supporter Shock [:O]. You just say you're a QLD supporter so you don't get XXXX cans thrown at you Laugh [(-D]. And there's plenty more where that came from Wink [;)]. And I must say, those express mask's are for lazy people....this means you Darren .

Soooo is THAT WHAT SHE SAID EH[:0] Mate i can assure you that it's all lies, in fact the next time she asks me to massage her foot bunyions the answer is definatly NO
BTW did you enjoy watching the Broncos flog the Roosters on FridayWink [;)]
Oh yeah "express masks" i can definatly say IMHO that they are probably a good thing but i'd rather spend a couple of hours cutting masks then a couple of weeks waiting for the masks to get hereMy 2 cents [2c]
But if they came in the box i'd use emThumbs Up [tup]

Didn't get to see that game mate. Would have been good to watch though, I hate those Roosters. Not happy with the NRL at the moment, my team (The Knights) is on the bottom of the table, and to make it worse, my brothers team (Manly) are on the top. And he won't let me forget it.......

I'd probably use those masks too if I had them available. Partly because I am lazy, and partly because I'm very lazy. Just can't justify the expense when I can do the same job, just taking a bit longer.

Rick Pictures......

.......the top....

.....the side, including THAT flash....

.......and finally the underside....

.

This is my first serious attempt at pre-shading, along with a certain degree of lightening of the centres of the panels.

Being a somewhat mono-chromatic colour scheme, I felt something needed to be done to add depth and interest to what otherwise would have been a dull subject.

It has taken a couple of attempts to get the panel shading to this stage, mainly due to somewhat slap dash A/B work on my part the first time around.

I'll let everything harden off for 48 hours, before applying a coat of Future on Tuesday.

Meanwhile I'll finish spraying the prop, now that the spinner is complete.

Hope you like.

That shading looks really good Karl. Thumbs Up [tup] I see you've masked over the whole canopy, do you plan to paint the canopy later? Just wondering why you wouldn't do it at the same time as the rest of it.

Karl, looks real good. Thanks for the pics Smile [:)].

Nicodemus, Thank you for the kind words.

Bob, My daughter had a Chatty Cathy doll when she was a little girl, which she loved to death. They re-issued the Doll a few years ago & I bought a new one for my daughter as a X-mas present. Even though she was 39 at the time, her eyes filled with tears when she opened the package & it is now one of her most cherished possessions.

Tanky, Kremps reports that you have been playing Hookie from school in order to build Migs. Don't ignore your schooling for modeling, there is very limited employment opportunities for un-educated Mig builders. Kremps also reported on some of the magazines she found hidden in your closet, but I don't want to go in to that on a public forum Shock [:O].

Guys, thanks for the kind words.

Razor I've got a Squadron vac form canopy to go on the Hurri, but decided I'd use the Hasa canopy to mask the cockpit while the main painting took place. The vac form canopy will be open to show of the incorrectly coloured cockpit!

Quiet day today, as I need to let everything dry before applying the Future tomorrow.

Karl, that sounds like a good idea, I think I'll do the same thing with my canopy, I've got the vac-form canopy too.

No progress to report folks, I plan on doing lots this week (fingers crossed) like maybe start the camo on my hurricane and typhoon. Jeez, Rick and Karl you know how to make a guy feel guilty!

Hey Rick I assume when you say "a spartan in the wolverine state", you went to MSU. Did you watch the game on the weekend? what a thriller!

Jay, Yep I'm an MSU Alum & I sent both of my kids there as well. The game with Kentucky nearly gave me a heart attack, but the Spartans prevailed in double OT. The game this weekend with NC State should be a great match up as well.

I'd just be on my best behavior for ahile if ya know what I mean...

Rick & Jay: I caught the game as well yesterday, what a blast. My Brother-in-law just bought a 61" screen and so I had to find an excuse like Easter Dinner to invite myself over. Anyway, my grandmother is from Detroit and I spent a little time there in my youth so I'm cheering for MSU!!!

i will await the decision.

joe

Joe no decision is required, if you would like to enter the build you would be more than welcome to. I'll mark you down as a starter with a Bf-109E4/7.

Jules, I'm back! The week leading up too and including the Easter break itself was hell. I had a massive implementation to oversee at work and that left me almost no time for family let alone any build time. I thought I would just stick my nose in hear to see what was happening and then go and do some Spitfire work.

Karl nice job on the Hurricane so far!! That’s a very nice subtle effect you have done there with the pre-shade. It looks great.

Cheers

My spitfire is nearly done. The decalling was finished a few days ago, then I gave it a flat coat this morning. After a bit of weathering with pastels and washes, I'll let it a ll dry off, then give it a few light coats of flat tommorrow. After that, all I need is to get the flaps painted and all the little bits stuck on.
