Well folks, just to prove I actually have the kit and have even opened the box, here's a pic to commemorate the start of my build!

Haven't done much at all, just freed the main pieces from their sprues, done a bit of cleaning and a whole lot of pondering and planning (should I do a cockpit, etc...).

I'm thinking I'll need to have a block of something in the lower hull to accept a stand of some sort. I don't trust the rack-like stand in the kit, plus I'm pondering having it flying low over the water.

I'll post another pic after I actually glue something together!

Good-looking builds by you speedy types, by the way!

Having five days off from work has really allowed me to make some great progress on this build. The main wing has been mostly comleted and got it's coating of yellow this morning.

This will cure for a few days then get masked and attached to the main fuselage.

Hi guys! I'm going to be a little slow getting going but I thought I'd share some pics of my new subject, the DeHavilland Twin Otter.

The kit is the old Matchbox kit which was a good kit for it's day and is still a decent kit, IMHO, if basic. The decals are by a local outfit called WhiskeyJack Decals. Should make for a pleasing model.

That's a nice Connie! I really wish some manufacturer would buck up and make a 1/48 version of that.

I have the Airfix Kingfisher in reserve, too, but I plan to save it for the Pearl Harbor GB.

Hi everybody! I have a request to make. Would anybody mind if I change horses? The Monogram Hu-16 Albatross I was planning to do has suffered major damage. The long and short of it is I managed to drop something heavy on it and now it's done. Rather than try to salvage it, I would like to change to Matchbox's DeHavilland Twin Otter floatplane in the markings of a local airline. Is this within the scope of the GB? If not, I also have Airfix's OS2U Kingfisher or Roden's Felixstowe F.2A that I can do.

Hi Guys,

After a late start I have began the prep for my Canadair CL215 build. The kit is from Heller in 1/72 and given the slightly transparent quality of the plastics in the kit I have decided to first prime everything with Testors Gray primer. Since the final model will be of a Newfoundland Government variant of the CL215 (green and red), I can hide the Heller yellow plastic under the primer.

The following pictures are of the 3 primed sprues and of the yet to be masked and primed cockpit canopy. I have also included a snap of the Leading Edge Models Decals I will use to finish my kit.

Next step is to begin the cockpit and flightdeck/fuselage interior buildup and painting. Maybe will have more photos in the next couple of days.

Sizing things up,

Looking forward to getting the Clipper underway. I taped it up a little to get an idea of the dimensions and such. I think it will come together nicely. This kit is a little dated and borrowed (see inside wing pic). Seems to have been around a little longer than me Wink [;)]

Mike, not to flag a dead horse, but Feb 2005 issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling has color profile of sister-ship, RB-C ML828. Looks just like your pic, MK.III w/no turret. Color is Extra Dark Sea Grey over White, same as RB-E. The sqdn codes are Light Sea Grey.

This is apparently a late war scheme.

I'm not wasting my time on lap belts - you can barely see the seats as is. I had considered doing a Hawaii Airlines island hopper but ended up with the pre-war Marine scheme with the yellow wing. Just spent a couple hours on the landing gear struts - oh boy, those are fun. I have a bad feeling about the fit of the little round windows also. Have you thought about how you're going to do the rigging yet? My progress is accelerated because I'm on vacation right now.

Thanks Swanny, I thought maybe I got a bad molding. I agree with you on fitting the Windscreen, kinda what I figured as well. You're way ahead of me on your build, but I hope to get more done this weekend. Are you going to put lapbelts on the passenger seats ? I assume they had them, but nobody would be able to see them when it's buttoned up. I'm still debating. Which scheme are you going to do? I haven't decided between the pre-war Yellow wing & the Pearl Harbor scheme.
