A little short is being kind. This thing is WAY off. I find that if I flex it a little to make the top edge meet I end up with a little gap along both lower sides. I think this is the approach I will take and fill the gap with thick super-glue followed by accelerator to prevent fogging. Since this will all end up being somewhat clear I'll prime it with interior green to cover the inside view and hope for the best. Watch you roof piece also - the fit could be better on it and the tail plane braces do not reach the fuselage dimples where they should sit. Speaking of the tail planes - pay particular attention to the rudder joint - I have some putty filling the front of mine.

Started working on the interior of the Mariner and the gun positions. Dry fitting the fuselage and wings, there will be a lot of filing work needed, also still trying to decide how to "float" her in a dio. I've had many suggestions and I'm still open to more if anyone has any ideas. It will be a large base, approx. 16" x 12" and it needs to be about 1/2 inch deep.

Well, well, well.....after reading some of the recent posts, I guess I am already lagging behind on my CL215. All I have do so far is wash my sprues and let them dry and get the custom decals for it. I will be starting with gusto this evening doing the initial primer to the sprues and probably masking the cockpit since that too will need priming.

I usually prime the sprues with a light mist coat first and then toych it up when I complete the subassemblies. Will start taking a few pictures and uploading for all to see soon.

Thanks, I'll take them! From what I understand about the Mavis is that it had a reclining walkway through the cockpit area between the seats while the Emily did not. Smile [:)]

I’ve got no interior shots of the Mavis but I have several small ones of the Emily, if you’re interested. I plan on using the Emily shots as a reference for the Mavis since they were both Kawanishi aircraft. I’m going to mix my own color for the interior. Looks like a shade of the infamous ‘bamboo green’. I don’t want to obsess too much about the right shade or I’ll never get it done.

I've done this in 1/48 and RLM 66 was the interior color.

I've started onnthe Matchbox 1/72 Supermarine Walrus, main fuselage etc. off the sprues and tidied up. Cockpit totally lacking in detail so have also made a start on scratching myself together a cockpit, will post pics when I have something worth showing you all,

I've started as well, and have immediatly run into...opportunities.
This is my first 1/72 plane in a long while, and my first IJN one ever. Anticipating somewhat sparse detail (which turned out to be true), I ordered the detail set for my Serian. Gosh, some of those parts are tiny - they even provide an operating bolt for the rear MG - I swear it is a thin as a human hair. Not sure I can cut it off, yet alone glue it on. So..I've decided to be selective about which brass I trouble with. Any tips for dealing with these little guys to avoid loosing them, especially when a drop of glue is bigger than the thing itself!
A more visable dilema, the instructions sugest RLM grey for the cockpit - this seems too dark and I cannot substaniate with any research. But, they have a restored example so I presume it would be accurate. I've gone ahead and gave it a coat, but I still think it will be too dark. Any suggestions about what the "right" color should be are welcome.

It looks like I forgot to mention that my C.R.D.A. Cant. Z "GABBIANO" is the Italeri 1/72 kit.

I have got all the parts washed and drying so far. Hope to start on more tonight.

Got all the major parts off the sprues & cleaned up. My kast few builds were Tamiya/Hasegawa kits, so this Sword limited run kit is a shock to the system. Have to clean up & dry fit everything. Oh well, just adds to the fun. Smile [:)]

Whew! Because, those seats would be TINY!!!
I think even just a hint of a cockpit would help the model.

Have you considered any sort of "what if" version? National insignia, some kind of camo? Hmmm...turrets, like a giant PBY? Hmmm....

Ive started some dry fitting but Im afraid my build is going to go rather slow. Im still waiting for some supplies I ordered to make thier way this side of the pond and I was just informed of a TDY I have to go on on short notice, leaving on the 5th... I doubt Ill get any serious building done by then. As soon as I get going though I start posting pics.
Looking forward to seeing everyone elses builds :)

I've dug in, and done a bit of cleaning on the Spruce Goose. It's a pretty simple kit, but those long wings and fat fuselage may mean lotsa sanding on all those seams, so I want them to fit as well as they can to begin with. No detail to worry about sanding off, though, so that's nice! This 1/200 kit comes with no cockpit, but the canopy is pretty big...so I may scratch a rudimentary cockpit just to give it a bit of feeling.

Model Grampa, are you really gonna scratchbuild all 700 seats???

hiya, folks !
the shrinkwrap on the W29 has been broken & i've gotten a few things done:

-read the instructions & made sure i had all the parts
-cleaned up the wing's sprue attachment points
-cleaned up flash from a few misc. small parts
-washed the parts in warm soapy water 2 clean off any mold release agents
-assembled the engine block halves (w/ prop shaft in between)
-sprayed a couple of mist coats of grey paint onto the fuselage, wing & stabilizers
-painted the engine block, rudder bar/pedals & a couple of other small items black

i didn't start building until after midnite, so it was Feb. 1st... barely...
insomnia isn't always a bad thing, i guess... Wink [;)]

now my first question is this:
does anybody know what color i should paint this thing ?
the instructions only give a Humbrol #, a Matt Grey is the description,
but the box art has the a/c in a blue-ish hue... which looks really good 2 me...
would a lichtblau or hellblau b appropriate ?

Great idea Paul never though of asking them . I did ask the chaps at the WA museum but they weren't sure of the colour of the code and if it had the top gun turret .They just suggested that I search the web . I found a heap of pics from the AWM..a great help but nothing that confirms it. I just e-mail the RAAF museum we'll see how we go .

Indeed it is! I'll have my first images posted by Sunday night and try to keep it coming weekly, no matter how far I progressed or not, just to keep the flow going here. We've got a lot of variety of floaters here and I can't wait to see how they all turn out!
