                        Mike, agree.

                        I've toyed with the idea of doing a cut-a-way so more of the P/E sets are visible. And I've been collecting info that would allow detailing in some other areas near the WEM details.

                        What I am trying work out in my mind is the thick plastic, regardless of whether I just build with P/E or get into the cut-a-way. I'd love to spend time in critical places, sanding it down closer to scale, but I know the WEM PE was designed to fit the thick plastic. I'd hate to get into a dance where I sand down the plastic, then build up the PE.

                        I have got to spend some quality time on this, but my mind is full up at the moment.

                        I managed to organise 2 new props . just e-mailed airfix advising them that I had 2 props broken , they advised me that they will send 2 more . Just had to send them my address so they can post them to me.Thumbs Up [tup].

                        I found some 1/72 Short Sunderland Fish Tail Exhausts.no pic for these will have to check these out a bit more.
                        And 1/72 PBY Catalina - 'fish tail' exhaust pipes , if anyones intrested.
                        Also found some 1/72 Airfix Sunderland underwing radomes (2) , suitable for Sunderland III, IV, V..
                        I found these on the Great Models web..

                        Mike:

                        Try an outfit called Aero Club -- I got some props from them for something else & I think they have a pretty good range. Great Models carries them I know. I have not looked specifically for the specific replacement prop, so am not sure what your success will be .... I think it ran with a 12' 9" 3-blade DeHavilland prop ...

                        Mike,

                        Just consider leaving the canopy unglued so you can remove it to see the PE inside. That's what Bryan Tucker did with his. He did say there was a lot to the WEM PE set and it looks gorgeous but once it's in the Sunderland, it's hard to see it all.

                        I'm also have a Sunderaland and am thinking of getting the PE set for it as well.

                        I liked his idea of sanding down but not removing the rivet detail. I was fortunate enough to see a real Sunderland at the RAF Museum and it did have a bumpy skin. After seeing up close photos of the H6K5 'Mavis', it looks the same way so I plan on doing the same technique with that kit for this build. I just wish I could get some images of the inside of it!

                        Just an up date , I open the box to the sutherland andWow!! [wow]it does show its age , I order a vac-form canopy from squadron and I think will order the PE from WEM . I'll have to look at ordering the engines too..because I am not too impressed with the ones in the kit..All though I will have too look into it a bit more..

                        We seem to be gathering a few builders and a wide range of models to be done great too see..Thumbs Up [tup]

                        I like the clear resin Idea and I want to do the same with my cat, though having it landing or taking off is a little too advanced for me. My problem is find the resin I on the Belgium economy. Any body know of a brand name for this stuff in europe?

                        I've been toying with the idea of having water in my display. Either as just skimming over the top of the surace of the ocean or (if a feel like being more daring) having it just as it's about to take off from the water. I have several flying boat kits and I definitely want to try that with at least one of them.

                        Any body have suggestion to use as a medium for the water? I'm leaning toward using clear resin and tinting it. I've seen amazingly realistic water displays with that.

                        Oh, and I'm going to the 'Out of Box' model show at the New England Air Museum here in Connecticut. this Saturday. They have a GORGEOUSLY refurbrished Sikorsky VS-44 flying boat as their crown jewel (as well as a fully resstored, factory fresh look, B-29 Super Fort in it's own building). Talk about insperation!

                        Thanks, I may do that, although my budget & stash space says I should wait for the reissue. My "love affair" with the Walrus came from building the 1/72 Airfix kit, decades ago .... now my eyes control the size of things I can build ....

                        If you're serious about acquiring that kit, Classic Airframes often keeps a list of who has some of their old kits in stock. They found a hobby shop in Michigan that had the late version of the J2F-5 Duck in their inventory for me when I thought all hope was lost on acquiring that specific kit. Drop them an email... ya never know!

                        Thanks Aurora-7! The kit is Monogram's "Heritage Edition" kit from about 1984, I guess. It's listed as 1/72 but I've never checked for sure.

                        I may have a copy of the old Wings show on the Catalina. I will have to get it out before the GB starts. Squadron has the In Detail ans Scale on the Catalina for $13.95. Not bad.

                        Anybody see History Channel's 1 hour show on the Catalina? It was on this morning. That's gotta be my all time favorite plane. I fell lucky I was able to get in two flyable examples (though I did not fly in them Sad [:(]) It got me wondering, did any body every make a kit of the Coronado?

                        Stopped by Hobby Lobby today to get the Tamiya F4F-4 kit for 50% off. Second time I will have built this kit, but this time its getting converted to an F4F-3S Wildcatfish using a resin conversion kit costing nearly 4X as much as the base kit.[:0] Since when did I have a disposeable income? I must really like this hobby.

                        I am getting my PBY-5A reatdy for the GB. I am ordering resin wheels for it and possibly a new cockpit. I do have the PBY in Action book which shows all of the wire antenna placements. I also have the True Details canopy masking kit. I will be doing the Black Cat version. Weathering the black paint will be fun! Do any of you remember the old Revell kit of Cousteu's (sp) PBY??? I loved that kit! Of course there was his ship kit too. All collectors' items now.

                        Looks like I have my work cut out for me , just checked the link out now thats an awesome build he has there ..and a great help ..
                        Also checked WEM out the PE its pritty pricey but after looking at the link they are worth it..I don't know how far I will tweak it , see what happens.
