after a long delay I am back at work on my Serian. Completed the dolly tonight, and hope to start painting the plane itself tomorrow. With a bit of luck I should have pics to post in the next several days.

Swanny,

Have to confess to 'chickening out 'on the rigging for this one!

Started to put it all together and had a couple of bad days with it so called it off before I wrecked a perfectly good build.

Sorry!!!

Very nice Harrowbeer! Forgot the Supermarine Walrus was a pushprop.

Harrowbeer, great job on the Walrus. I've had the 1/48 Classic Airframes kit in my stash for quite a while, but just can't get up the nerve to actually build it. I think yours may prod me a bit.

OK, so at last it is finished!
Attached are lots of pics of my finished 1/72 Supermarine Walrus.

She is coded as AQ*M Serial P5658, of 276 Squadron RAF based at RAF Harrowbeer in Devon between October 1941 and May 1944. She is camouflaged in the Temperate Sea Scheme as per Air Ministry instructions of August 1941.

Hope you enjoy.

That is a great build of a terrible kit. The modeler is very, very talented.

Not a member of this build but here's a beautifully built 1/72 Matchbox kit of a Supermarine Stranrear. The link goes directly to a Modeling Madness article:

I've managed to make a little more progress on my Twin Otter float plane in the last few days. Interior detail painting is done and some "glass" has been installed. Engine nacelles, fences and other details have been installed on the wings as well. So far I've been very impressed with the fit of the parts as all the joints have been tight and without steps or anything like that. It'll be interesting to see how all the sub-assemblies go together. Anyhow, I hope to have the fuselage closed up tonight and the wings mounted. Should have some progrees pics soon.

I have been working at the Felixstowe.

The engine is a bear; parts are small & so many inter-relate that fit is critical. One little part went zinging across the room & had to be hand-built. I've been working on other small assemblies -- propellers need a little work -- bomb fins are really thick, so I rebuilt them -- looking at gun station detail. I've been fiddling with wings & things, so something is happening.

Fuselage & floor have been glued - a bit out of sequence, but I think best way to handle building painting & building detail. Got to get the wood color down & let it dry for a week or so.

I have a research issue on the gun station I'm adding to the upper wing. It was put in the center of the center section & thus would displace the oil(?) tank up there, but I don't know where it goes.

Should have new pix in a week ....

Haven't done much on the PBM recently. Life is getting in the way a little. My fiance and I are trying to buy a house. I am hoping to get some time in the next week to get a little more done.

Frosty ... that is a really beautiful build. Looking at that lozenge from above in your photo, it is easy to see how it would be effective in the air, over water!!

I have finally resolved all the weighting issues with the catalina, and lined up the fuselage for gluing. Up to getting out the airbrush, and about six gallons of paint. even now, SWMBO is asking where I am going to store the thing!! Then I just point at the B.29 on the "To Be Built" shelf. I think she is buying a second house to store my models Wink [;)]

More photos after the weekend - with a little paint on. And I think I am going to give Swanny's salt weathering method a crack - it seems appropriate on a Cat (although RNZAF birds were kept in pretty good nick, from what I read!!)

Frostygirl excellent build, thanks for sharing. Big Smile [:D]

Gee I think I need to get my rump in gear here and start putting some time on my build. Just been swamped with other life issues lately and a miserable cold Yuck [yuck].

Cheers

Frosty,

I've never seen a WWI mono-wing floatplane! Much less a fighter version. It came out great. So know there'll be more time for the Tuskegee build, eh?

They aren't as plentiful as HO, but S scale is about 1/64. Might be easier to make them shorter than taller. But do a search at Squadron or Great models, there are a surprizing number of 1/72 figures available that could be used or modified.

I only really need 2 crew figures for the tail turret and a waist blister window position since the kit came with 3 cockpit figures. The smaller scale would work for the tail turret and the larger one maybe better for being noticed in the waist blister.

Looks really good, Frosty !!!!
If my Felixstowe were finsihed, it would feel menaced ....
I have always found the rudder on the W29 interesting -- one would think they would want it out of the spray, etc, area. I don't know if they did it this way for field of fire or something else.

Thanks Swanny, still trying to fix the nose turret which in my case is one of the most important parts as this is where my grandfathers station was. This kit sure is a pain, but a lot of fun.
