That's one excellent carrier model,  I like the deck layout.

Even with a 6 month extension I still take it right down to the wire. Big Smile [:D] As tomorrow is the deadline I guess I better post some pics. This model was a real frustration for me as it is the first 1/700 I've done in about 20 years and it is also the first 1/700 on which I used PE. I also believe it is the first large 1/700 ship on which I attempted a camoflage scheme. Add to that the near fatal crash off the shelf thanks to that darn cat and it survived a move accross three provinces... oh and I droped a lamp on it last weekendBanged Head [banghead]. Anyway, enough whining.

The kit is Hasegawa's ancient and incorrect Essex in 1/700. Bought it and the PE set before I knew the new Dragon kit was coming out so it was a good kit to experiment on.

Leon-Sounds like a plan. With the Carrier GB & Atlantic GB coming up, should be able to work that one in!

Ok, I'm calling it done. Here are the pictures. I thought I had the whole camera/lighting thing figured out, but I just can't seem to get them to look as sharp as some posters on the site (rjkplastic for example - how does he do it??). Anyway, the summary: tamiya's brewster buffalo kit, kit decals, True Details tires, painted with polly scale except the sky color is Tamiya and the flat is model master, antenna is monofilament thread, exhaust tubes drilled out, other than that, I think it was out of the box. Oh I did make some seatbelts from foil and soder, but it isn't viewable in the pictures. Any comments / advice / critiques welcome.
Leon

Leon,

That's a nice Buffalo, the dragon background being white is a bit of a pain, maybe Tamiya will get a better decal producer one day, as there decals are just a little of thick side.

Looks great Leon. I didn't notice any issues with the underlying white decal (I always hate those things!)-even with the photo enlarged.

Well, I got the decaling done. It actually went pretty well. Decaling is always a step that freaks me out; it seems that there is always atleast one that doesn't quite go as planned and ends up jumping out at me as a big mistake forever. Anyway, I used the Tamiya decals (something I have only done once before to disasterous results), but these actually worked great! I'm not sure if they have improved that part of their kits or if it is just this one, but it does tempt me to try out their p-47 decals to see if they are any good. It would be so nice to save the extra $10 or so dollars that AM decals take. Blah Blah Blah. I tend to blab. Sorry.

Here are some pictures of the decaled buffalo. One problem I did have was getting the dragon to line up perfectly over the white decal you put under it. I am thinking I will try to get out a very fine brush and try to hide the white that shows (cross your fingers for me). Also, I'm hopeful that a flat finish will hide the carrier film a little better than it looks like in the picture.

Anyway, thanks for looking. I hope all is well.
Leon

Thanks all.

The 'tape' over the guns was some leftover white decal material cut into random sizes.

The wildcat looks great Bob. I really like the tape over the guns; was that decal or your own doing? I also really like the level of weathering.

Thanks bob. I really appreciate it. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it soon.

I actually have some progress to show and may, just may finish my build before the deadline. Got most of the major painting done this weekend and hope to future it up tomorrow for decals. Tried using Polly Scale paints and had tons of trouble with clogging. I got some advice from rjkplasticmod that mentioned retarder, so I tried that and am having better luck. I really like the paint and want to figure it out, so I'm hoping with a little more work, I'll conquer it Smile [:)]

Yes Bob you are correct, there is an Atlantic GB in the works and will probably start in Feb or March.

Gdarwin, had a hard time viewing your site and only saw a couple of pics but it looks great.

Hope to get back to my Essex next week and get her finished up for this GB.

Leon,

Nice pix of the Wildcat, [maybe we could do an Atlantic GB, that covered a large area of the conflict].

Actually, there is an Atlantic GB planned for mid '06 (I think). There was a lot of discussion in the Battle for Germany GB about it. Or was it the North Africia GB? I forget. Maybe one of the regulars will read this and confirm.

btw-Leon-thanks for the post. Will spend the weekend searching domestic web sites. I'll advise if I have any luck.
