Joe,
Nice progress on the P 40, good concept of repositioning the flaps and control surfaces.

Also on another note:

Part I;

I have reserected my TBF-1c RNFAA project, which has the Verlinden AM engine set and my Scale Magic resin flap set, this bird is an 'on and off' project that has been going on for 6 over months, I have the AeroMaster Pt II sheet for RN birds, but as yet have not decided on the subject of choice. This project clashes with another that Scale Magic is doing for the kit Manufacturer.

My progress pix:-

This pic shows the interior detail of the flaps

Part II;

It has been sujested to me by another member [of this GB] to extend the finishing date of this Group Build project to November 2005. As there is a lot of interest in this project, with others going in, what would your views on the idea of extending the finish date be ?.

Jeeves,

Just taking it really patiently with a rechargeable Ryobi. I don't have a full cabinet of modelling tools, but what I am doing is pre -imprinting the centre of the "hole to be" with a thumb tack, prior to using the drill. This ensures the 1/16th bit doesn't slip off the plastic. Then I am VERY gently using the variable speed control to drill through. I am also drilling onto a piece of solid timber to ensure that there is minimal need to tidy up with a sharp blade.

So far, just one hole out of alignment. And that is only fractional. I am half wondering whether to fill with putty, or let it lie. Can anyone let me know how Tamiya putty will drill out? Or do I just experiment (not with my drilled out flaps!! [:0][:0])

I also have removed the drilled out flaps from the wings for repositioning ... I want to show off the interior red colour.

As far as an extension is concerned, it is neither here or there to me. I have planned around having this build finished by the end of Feb anyway ...

Cossack,

Tamiya putty will shrink a little when dry, if the hole is off centre use a resin putty, who make two of these putty types, which can be sanded and redrilled.
I have a set of PE dive brakes for an SBD-3 bird you could use if you wish.

That looks great cruzr, well worth the wait.

A November finishing date is fine with me. It would give me a chance to do an aircraft along with my Essex. I am finally starting to get the hang of the PE for the Essex but it is taking soooo long. Each quad gun mount has 6 itsy bitsy tiny pieces. Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]
My next (several?) build is going to be strictly OOB.

Rob,

Thanks for the offer - but I am quite determined to do this OOB. Perhaps I am MAD!! Wink [;)]

It's a while before I will be painting, but I might try and fix that pesky hole. Just knowing it is there is BOUND to bug me!! So a little experimentation on busted up plastic first, and then I will decide on an approach.

Finally got some pics of my A6M5 'Zeke'

This is the first time I have tried to do weathered paint, other than shading that is.
It's not the best, but you have to start somewhereWink [;)]

Lighting is something I'm still working on for my pics, so sorry for them being a little 'dull'

Thanks for letting me a part of this GB, there are some really awesome builds going on here, and I'll keep popping back to check them out.

Cruzr, love the P38!!

tweety1,

For a first [on your weathered paint], you've done an excellent job on the Zeke.

Joe,

Great finish - nice bird. And Tweets - the Zeke looks spectacular!!

I also have a question for you knowledgeable lot. The Hasegawa SBD-4 kit I have has the lower dive brake holes imprinted right across under the fuselage. But right in the middle of the brake section there is a hump continuing from behind the bomb carriage. I am not sure just whether this section of dive brake opens as a single unit (including the hump? Or does it open as two sections - one either side of the hump? Or does it not open at all?? If any of you have any guidance, or photographic evidence, I would be grateful.

What is bugging me is that if it opens as a single section, how is it hinged such that the residual hump does not get in the way???

Many thanks in anticipation ...

(By the way - now into drilling the bottom brakes ... its like counting sheep!!!)

Guess I should check in. My Sherman is mostly build and awaiting warmer weather to airbrush. My basement gets cold and as a result, the airbrush gets REALLY cold!! Hopefully this week...
