thanks Dan. I'm on the original list, but with no specifics. Not sure if I'll be starting soon or save this one for summer.

Quick question-what is the end date for this group build? I have a 1/48th SBD-2 Midway version waiting in the wings. Just checking to see if there is enough time....

Jay,

The locating holes for the radar were drilled out before joining the fuselage together, when the decals were applied and set I just attached the radar array to the model, the other one is in the starboard wing about the same line as the undercarriage leg and when the yellow decal film settles I'll just fit it on. The radar array was painted while still on the sprue.

Roy,

The ammo belts are flexable [in real life, they are called disintergrating links], adding a foil backing to the kit belts would give them the added strength and also alow you to bend and twist them to fit between the guns and the ammo boxes, in a much more realistic way.

Folk's,

Jill has progressed just a little as I put everything else aside to spend sometime on the model, the Yellow leading edge ID strip is a piece of clear decal film painted yellow and trimed to fit once settled.

Fuselage with wing fold point

Port side view, with wing stay brace

Starboard side view, with wing brace

Plan view with seperated wing tips

Wings folded [for the benefit of the pic only]

The colours used on this model are enamels from the Xtra Colour range which are a gloss finish, sorry about the flash bounce.

Ah.... thanks Lobbie- that makes sense. With the basswood ones I have on now, I do believe if I dropped them onto the floor they would break off so it looks like I modeled them accurately Propeller [8-]

Guys,

Had gremlins in the system and only just it back from the doctors [pricey blighter's], so now on top of my admin duties with the other part of my model building and resin business, along with kicking butt I got to do a bit more to my 'Jill' and I'll have some pix posted shortly.

Jeeves,

From the photo's I've looked through on torpedo's that had plywood fins, they all seemed to be just bare timber and where designed to come of once the torpedo hit the water from an aircraft launch.
I hope this helps alittle.

Paul,

Your welcome, it was AeroMaster that got it wrong, I've found several wartime Kiwi aircraft pix covering almost all their birds of the time, 31 in all with 8 on the Catalina, I can scan for you if you would like them.

Roy,

With the ammo belts for either the 50 or 30 cals, glue the kit belts to some foil, [similar to the seal on a coffee tin, or a foil baking tin] ,, with some CA glue and when dry bend them to shape.

OK-- the current state of my Monogram Devastator is due to some wing root problems....hopefully will finish the paint job in the next day or two....still hoping to find an answer to my question about the torpedo plywood though....

Just a --BUMP--!!

Actually, minor progress on the SBD. Fully Future'd (or Pledge'd here in Australia). Just waiting for it to cure up, then on with the decals. Maybe tomorrow night? Otherwise it will be the weekend Smile [:)]

Thanks Lobbie for the info on wing placement. Jeez I wish the RNZAF could have made up its mind!!!!

Question.... the Devastator in Action book shows modified torpedoes with plywood formed around the fins....I have added these on to mine and was wondering if they were possibly painted? Or left as unfinished wood??

Geoff,

Neet little bike you've done their, I built that some time ago for a Museum, but based mine on an AIF captured one, similar theme lines as the Klubblwagon as captured by 3 Sqn RAAF. They built well but sadly untill I go back to the museum [with their next lot of builds], I don't have any pix of them.

Folk's,

The website I have been re-writing, has a tempory home at this location
http://scalemagic1a.homestead.com/index.html
It will be changed to it's new name in about a month from now, due to the additional information, on our flight 19 section, that will be added in the next few days

G'day Folk's,

Here are a some 48 scale models built for or on loan to the RAAF OTS,

Built from the old ARRI kit with AeroMaster decals.

Built from the Tamiya kit, with Ventura Decals and Scale Magic resin components, the weathering on this bird was created by using dried paint skin and smearing it over the model.

This model is on loan to the RAAF: Built from the Tamiya kit, with Scale Magic resin and AeroMaster decals, weathered mostly with pastels.

This model is on loan to the RAAF: Built from the Acc Min's kit with Aussie Decals

With all these birds different mediums of paint were used, from either the AeroMaster 'Warbird' range, Model Master range, Humbrol range and the Xtra Colour range, they are all finished in Dullcoat.
