Thanks. I was just looking at your Ki-44. Great natural metal finish. I was never good at those- a few Mustangs and a Sabre waiting for the day I am brave enough...

Jason,

Good job on your Sherman, boo boo's or not, it came up well.

Guy's,

Here is a sideview of a Beaufighter project that is being undertaken by Scale Magic, we intend to have this finished in a few months, so that we can display this model at the forthcomming Melbourne Model Expo, we plan to release the decals for this articular aircraft about the same time, which is in the middle of the year. I have been asked by both my co founders to included this build in this GB.
The model will of course have all the Scale Magic resin components fitted to it.

I spent most of last week working on my 1/700 Essex carrier and then put it on the shelf in preparation for Mad Komet Day last Sunday. While taking a break on Mad Komet Day to visit with some friends that dropped by, my daughter chased the cat into my workroom where he tried climbing on my shelves to hide.

The good news is that the Essex recieved minimal damage and can be salvaged after falling from the shelf to the table top. The Halifax that fell with it wasn't so lucky, after it too fell on the table a big heavy reference book also fell on top of it. The amazing thing is I managed not to yell and scream at anyone!!!!Shock [:O] The "CAT" however will lose one of its nine lives when he least expects it!!! Evil [}:)]

Anyway, out of frustration and since the deadline has been extended I will probably start my Battle of Britain build as soon as I am done with the Komet.

Jason and Jason: Great builds on both counts. Gotta learn how to do BM one of these days and as for the sherman. WOW!! Nicely done.

Josh: Good start to your build, keep the photos coming.

Dave

Rob,

Do you guys (Scale Magic) have a catalogue visible anywhere? Like the Beaufighter decals - look great. Might be interested in other bits you guys are turning out as well - especially any RNZAF projects you look at Wink [;)]

cossack,

Scale Magic's website is down for reconctruction and alterations, we do have a list of resin components / conversion and future releases, listed on a site we recently started: http://scalemagic.proboards3.com/index.cgi

With RNZAF the only project we had looked at was the Mk XX Beaufighter, we are considering some decal options for their Sqn's based both in England and the Pacific regions.

However the site I mentioned may ask that you sign up.

I hope this helps a liitle.

Guy's,

Roy, Thanks for that, is that the Italeri Lvt 4 kit that you are going to build ?

Here is something that will make you weep, these pix were given to me sometime ago, they are believed to be taken at Oakey in Queensland.

Hey roy, Be sure to let us know how that one goes together. I had origianally planned to build it but I got this Japenese tank for Christmas so I went with it instead.

Roy,

I swapped the Italeri Lvt 4 kit I had, to a friend.

With regard to the 'Grave Yard' pix I believe it's late '45 to early ' 46, their are other's that are from this site and we are using it at the moment to organize a test for a decal issue.
The other wartime pix I have I can e-mail a list of for you, as some are single pix and others are multiples. Mostly of RAAF aircraft and some of U.S aircraft, a couple have signs of slight damage.

Lobbie: Thanks for the site ... off to register Wink [;)]

Hey gang I want to apoligize for my absense. I have been working on my F6F and it is finished I unfotunately have no inprogress pics of it due to the fact that among other things to go wrong in my life at the time my computer was one of them. To be honest putting this Hellcat together is what kept me sane or depending one how you look at it, held back the over whelming insanity. In anycase it is the Hasegawa Essex Hellcat in 1/48th scale for the most part it was a OOB build with really no problems with fit or accuracy as far as I can tell. Well with out further ado here are the pics.

Some first for this build were that I used my airbrush to do the paint job on her I think it turned out well concidering I am just starting to get over my fear of my airbrush. Normally I am a armour builder so fighting back the urge to put lots of mud and equipment strapped to the outside was a very hard urge to squealch. This is the first plane that I have done in awhile.

That's an excellent Hellcat [wingythingy] you've completed, I take it you haven't been airbrushing long.

Here is the Tamiya Nakajima {Night Fighter} Gekko type 11 Late Production 'Irving' I got out of the shop display case [and damaged by lost tail wheel doors], with the intentions of stripping the paint from this bird and repainting it, lame idea I had on my part, was to create this as another captured bird, but somehow the better got to me. Everything is open on this bird, by stripping her down and starting again I'll have to close everything up and loose some interesting detail. I do have the Early Production version in the stash so I have a source to copy a set of tail wheel doors from.

Also I was given 2 of the 3 x 72 scale kits [from the ARRI 3 in 1 box sets] that build a NMF Early Version which has the raised glass house to the centre of the fuselage spline and the other is the Radar Equiped version. Both of these are unassembled but seem to have been painted with a spacthaller instaed of a brush.

Sorry for the shadow cast on the model in this pic:

Someone in the shop has now discovered what the true meaning to 'You'll Pay for this' really is.

Feldgrau - great Hellcat ... I am at a similar stage to you with my SBD - learning airbrush (actually my first attempt!!). But I hope to get some progress pics up this weekend ... albeit that it is almost finished - assembly at least Wink [;)]

Thad - I understand the reference to the silver pen for your weathering ... but what did you do with the toothpick???? I am new to weathering, and am thinking of trying things out with a junker I have floating around.

cossack,

If I may add this small group of pix and my explanations, to try and answer your question about the use of tooth picks and other odd items, to simulate chipped paint effects to model aircraft.
On page 9 of this Gb forum is the A6M2 Zero that Glen, [aka 150Man {one of the Scale Magic co founders}] had built, using a pin head, scalpal blade and emery board, from his interpretation of seeing my Catalina anf the Ki 61Hien.

#1

A Dewoitine D 520. I highlighted the panel lines with a tech pen [fine felt tip pen], a silver roller ball pen smeared to replicate chipped paint and pastels to similate exhaust and cordite stains.

#2

A catalina PBY 5. I painted the main wing and fuselage as two seperate components with Tamiya AS-12, then applied the cam and decals, when the decals were set I sealed them, then rubbed an emery board over the entire two assemblies of the model. thenfitted the small radar antenia, radio mast and a brass wire DF loop before glueing the wings to the fuselage.
Note: This model was built for the RAAF OTS as part of their list of contracted builds.

#3.

A Ki 61 Hien 'Tony'
This model was painted in Tamiya AS-12 before the IJA Dark Green was applied, a tooth pick was used on the fuselage and cowling, to chip the green away, the wing was done using the edge of a file. The cordite and exhaust stains are pastel

I hope this helps in some way.

Hey Lobbie Which company makes the PBY you did???? I am planning on doing it for the 2005 Pearl Harbor group build and up to this point I have been un able to find any. I know they are out there just haven't had any luck finding them. Would prefer 1/48 but if 1/72 is all they have that is fine.

By the way can I now officially were my group Build Badge????? Please?!?!?!?!

feldgrau23,

My Catalina was the Monogram PBY 5 Flying Boat kit in 48 scale, I tracked this down as a second hand iten for the RAAF contract.
Academy make all the Catalina kits in 72 scale, which are highly detailed their PBY 5a anphibian version has PVC tyres.

I can try and locate a 48 kit here if you prefer the 48 kit, it would take me about 2 weeks to get replies from contacts though.
I hope this helps a little.

By all means place your GB badge in your sig.
