jason, very nice! great progress!

tonight i attached the upper and lower hulls on the SPG and built the 75mm...... not too many problems except for the hull fit, leaving me with a slight seam to fill. The shield goes up tomorrow and I hope to have her done by week's end.

anyways, here are some pics!
comments please

Lobbie, sounds like you have quite a lot going on. Good luck with it all!

Your builds are very impressive.

While slowly trudging along on the Chia-Ha Diorama, waiting for some figures, I am throwing in a Japanese 75mm SPG gun into the build. Here are a few starters.

Having reached the 55 mark just recently and deciding to retire from working in a hobby shop, after all these years [almost 14 too be exact], to concentrate on Scale Magic's projects and the many contract and customer builds that are never ending, it seems that early retirement is not to be for me for sometime to come.

Firstly:
I've been approached by a local decal manufacturer [here in Oz], with the planed addition of RAAF W.W. II decal production to enhance their catalogue, with the inclusion of our resin conversions and or components to some of these planned decal releases, so it looks like 12 months or more before this is completed.

Secondly:
I've been approached by a certain museum here with an idea they have presented to me, of loaning my Beaufighter and other RAAF models to them as a propossed plan they have too display model significant to the History of the RAAF. Seeing as this museum was the sponsor of the trophey I won for my model they would need to make several changes before any of my models appear their.

Thirdly:
The RAAF OTS have asked if we [Scale Magic], would start a school for their model builders, this has created a slight problem as both the other founding members still work on weekends, leaving the teaching part to one person is not a good idea, as assistance to this I'd have to look for members of the club willing to help out.

Now with all that said I hope to be laying paint to the P 40 today [sunday 07/10], as the WC 54 is painted and decaled in it's Oz scheme, the BMW R 75 is completed with the dust wash along with the Greyhound and the Klublewagon.
The P 40 will become A29-356, as the earlier P 40b has been modeled as LD-C of 112 Sqn RAF Nth Africa as flown by P.O. Clive Caldwell.

Having some time to finally get to attempt too finish a few of my many models in the past week or so has cleared a small section of the shelf, along with a couple of boxes from the continuing pile. Here are a few of what I've been trying to complete, as for the WC 54 Radio Truck that is a kit bash started about 2 years ago, by marrying up an Italeri Ambulance body to the Skybow 4x4 Weapons carrier, in general a Skybaleri WC 54, the ladder is a scratch build using evergreen and copper wire, the canvas tarpoline is made from lead foil from a wine bottle. The M 8 is OOB, the P-40m is the old Mauve 48 kit, the Klublewagon and BMW are both Tamiya and replicate captured and used Axis Equipment.

Jay,

Your pre-shading looks great, I'll be interested to see this finished.

Bob,

The Porsche GT 3 model is finished and in the hands of it's owner. He is now talking of another Porsche project for me to do as the 1/12 Porsche 934 RSR if you would like a few pix of the completed car, just send me an email.

In relation to the models my Beaufighter was competing against, here are the pix of the group I had entered into.

PakNick-40,

You'd be welcome to join in on the GB with your Corsair.

Joe,
The Beau was not in the top 10 models judged, yet it gets a best of show for the type. I'll post pix of what I was competing with in the 'Modified' 48 scale, as soon as I can sort them out, as with the Agagi I'll organize them for you.

gdarwin-good question. I'm trying to focus on GB's in order of completion dates. Therefore, I need to complete the Accurate Min. F-6A for the North Africia GB before I start on the Wildcat for this one then the P-40 by year end. Hope to finish the F-6A by the end of July. Reason for the delays are summer (more time with family outside) and a new airbrush (first time) that I've had for two months and still in the box!Sad [:(]

Sorry i haven't posted here for awhile, My Essex carrier has been mothballed for awhile as I have been away from home and in the midst of moving to a new city. With all those delicate PE parts I just haven't had the desire to pull it out until I'm more settled again. That plus the extension on the finish date has given me an excuse to move on to other things Ashamed [*^_^*].

Lobbie Congrats on the award

Bob,

As with the GT 3, no he didn't have the 1:1 scale verson, to work from [he did own the 930 for several years], I actually went to the Porsche dealer here for the references to the build. If anyone ever builds this the tyres are incorect [I should say Tamiya have copied one side only of the tyres and they are not directional].

With your Wildcat, which brand and scale is it ? I built the Tamiya issue in 48 and intend to finish it in the RNFAA colours of 888 Sqn [Operation Avalanche] January '43 as used as fighter cover during the Salerno Landings. As a Martlet II as it can sit on the shelf and acompany the RNFAA TBF 1c Avenger [when completed].

Hope you will post pics of the GT 3 when complete. I enjoy auto builds but get frustrated when the paint is 'perfect'. Like to killed myself last summer working on a Candy Apple Red paint job for a funny car.

The Wildcat is the Tamiya 1/48th. That is definatly going to be my build (when I get started) however, I may do some decal shopping and go with a different battle, i.e., Midway or Wake Island. Not sure yet.

Lobbie-thanks for the info-just the reason I needed to justify the full PE kit for the Wildcat.

Since you are doing the GT 3 for your brothers office, does that mean you have been able to procure a 1:1 version (at his expense, of course) "for research purposes" Wink [;)]

Bob,

To my knowladge full Lap / Shoulder harness's were fited to the Wilcat.

On another note:
If it clears a bit I maybe able to get some painting done on a few birds, that are assembled, none of which are intended for any GB's, as 3 of the 72 birds all RAAF are for a museum, they are a P 39, P 40e and a Mk VIII Spit.
The 48 birds are for my cabinet: RNFAA Marlet [based on the Wildcat], P 40m in RAAF, Mk IX Spit from 453 Sqn RAAF in Europe and a Typhoon Ib of 198 Sqn RAF Europe.
The P 40m is the old Mauve kit, the decals are composite [from the spares box].

The contract build Porsche GT 3 took a lot of time and had several modifications done on it, so it's owner [my brother] can have it in his office.

Lobbie,

I gave it some more thought and the India/Burma/China idea is pushing it a bit-especially since the decals I planned on using are for a plane based in India. Therefore, Plan B-an F4-F Wildcat based on Guadalcanal.

Question for the group-were the Wildcats in VMF-223 'early', i.e., lap belts only or were shoulder harnesses installed by that time (August 1942)?

Thanks

Bob
