DJ, if nothing more it was an abject lesson in why I should stick to styrene, not literally of course, though it has been known to happen!

After painting (see above), I'm really not happy with the look of the transparent part representing the two side windows and a part of the airframe. It's perfect on one side, but sticking out on the other, and I've decided to take some more time to correct the problem, that is sanding down the offending 'step'. That will of course mean repainting the model after... I need to let the Tamiya paint dry properly before attempting this. There will be some re-engraving required, and that rules out a completion by Midnight. I'm beaten too.

In any case, work continues on the smaller bits (skid, wheels and dolly in particular) and on the base.

Wow!!! I can't believe how much all of you have acheived in such a short time.

As for my all paper 263, a complete an utter washout I'm afraid. I'm man anough to know when I'm beat, and this paper stuff certainly has. I tried twice to get this thing together, but I'm convinced you need some form of magic to make this thing look like an Me263!!

I still haven't ruled out burning the thing in the garden. As you can no doubt guess this saga has given my wife and kids much amusement throughout the day!!!

ok the easy part is done. got the plane in a coat of rlm 76. now the difficult part. doing the camo for the scheme i want.

I used Windsor & Newton ink 955 Burnt Sienna, neat from the bottle. Next time I'll try the vinegar and washing-up liquid. Thanks!

Osher, it does not look bad from over here! Did you add a drop of vinegar and a drop of dish-washing liquid to your inky wash? Both help getting better results with water-based washes!

Bstrump, Mad Schlepper Day was Saturday, but only Osher went ahead with it, and as you can see above, it's not quite finished either. Looks like the tractor was harder to build than the aircraft! LOL

Here's my Komet with a fresh coat of Tamiya Sky Grey. With a bitt more than 4 hours to go, I really doubt I'll get this MKD build finished on time... Main problem is the pilot, really. Should have looked for one before! Oh well...

So far, I'm quite happy with my Komet.

Here is the weathered tractor, less wheels. This is the first time I tried using inks...and it was a failure. It just re-coloured the tractor, not washed. Was the wash too thick? Anyway, also the first time I tried using pigments. Using a brush wasn't so good, but when I used a finger, it came out quite nice, and looks like a rusty tractor. Over-did it a bit with the silver pen though...

Some progress to report on the build. As of 11:00 AM PST I have the the Komet assembled and the joints puttied. In about half hour or so, I should be able to start sanding and painting. Given the age of the Heller kit, I'm amazed at how tight the seams actually are. One thing I'm unsure about is whether the tractor is part of the build. If it is, I'm hooped!

You started without me! I stayed in bed to long! But I'm up and
Moving. I don't have a way to post pics but go to a friends when I'm done.
As I said I have the old Heller and have decided since I've always been
Red Baron "fan" I will build mine as the red v-41 flown bt Spate. And a quick
spray can coat of red will save me some time! This no super detail w/pe but
a clean oob build! (Well hopefully claen!)

Whoopie! Finally reinstalled PSP, so can post images. OK, so a second layer of RLM66 has been applied. In a while I'll add in instrument colours, then assemble the fuselage. Meanwhile, I'll mask the canopy (using masking tape I think), and weather the tractor. Not sure I'll be finished by midnight, but I should have at least the Komet assembled, and maybe a single coat of red.

DJ Second attempt is on the bench now. This certainly proving an interesting experience!!!

Luckily my wife is a scrapbooker so I have access to a wide variety of things to stick paper with. Having said that staples are looking good right now!!!!

Not sure I'm going to bother with the U/C, not convinced paper U/C legs will bear even the weight of a paper model.

Well, the bed is repaired, the cous-cous ready and the Mrs back at home safely.

I've managed another 1/2 hour and I've re-done the vents at the back of the fuselage, supposedly typical of the earlier Me-163B... I've also painted the inside where the side windows go, and have added the claer part that features part of the top fuselage and the said side windows. The fit there is not that good, possibly due to my efforts at 'furnishing' the inside..? Wonder if the other MKDers with the Academy kit have the same problem.. Anyway, nothing a bit of Milliput could not fix. I think I'm ready to paint the kit now... I still have the dolly to do, and of course all the inside of the cockpit plus the pilot, who must be quite aenemic, given the width of the Academy seat!

Karl, do not give up. Looking forward to seeing how the second model comes out!

Lodni, at least we've learned that Condor kits are no good for a Day Build..! LOL Take the next few days to complete it, my friend! We'd like to see your efforts!

well i started at midnight put the cockpit and wings together and that was about it. im just about to start for the day, but no pics yet it was 11:00 before i realized i didnt have my camera!

I wish I could start over w/ an Academy kit. The Condor kit had a decent little P.E. fret but no one can see anything in the cockpit & the rudder control arms (?) and wingtip skid bumps are a little underscale me thinks. Well, gives me some practice since that's only my second attempt at P.E. The dolly come out nice, though! LOL

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Well, I should be done now but unfortunely not. The dolly is done! LOL With the half-tube of putty I used on this little sucker I should worry about it "blowing away"! Just waiting for the Future to dry to put the decals on & clearcoat it. After this I won't be buying any more Condor kits and it will probably be a while before I do another Me163 model!!

Back at it after 6 hours of sleep.

Now here’s some flash. These are the small detail parts from the MPM J8M1 kit. Glad I’m only using the fuselage halves, tail halves and tail wheel from the styrene parts. Well, maybe the “take-off” wheels if I have time.

Thanks to Calvin I now kown it a take-off dolly!

Good to see everyone making progress.

I printed off my paper 263 an hour ago, anf have spent much of that hour cutting out the main assemblies. This is harder than it looks, so far I've managed to cut out a chunk of the fuselage that I shouldn't have, so that the lower portion has fallen off!!!!!!

I thought a paper kit would be the easy option!

Will post some pictures soon, only it means faffing around unplugging from the net due to a lack of USB ports!

Looking good, Joe! You've made some real progress there! As far as I'm concerned, the main assembly is completed; I've used jeweller's files and sandpaper to sand down a few seems, and have added Milliput epoxy putty in a few little places where it was needed. I've kind of re-worked the area behind the cockpit so that one can not seen sideways through the aircraft anymore. The epoxy putty will take a good hour to dry (I used very little!) and I'll continue on the bird there and then. I'm gonna have lunch and start on the base in the meantime.

This is how things look 12 hours into this MKD. There's actually about 2 1/2 hrs of work in there.

ok the time is almost 3 am here. made good progress and the kit cooperated very very well with what i wanted to do. the construction is almost complete. only the wheels remain. tomorow first thing is to mask the canopy and then i can spray this bird.

first up of course is the start photo. i began late as the computer would not cooperate with me.




first up for construction was the cockpit. first painted then assembled.



then up was the fuse. but i did something unusual for me i glued the wing halves and the tail halves together before attaching to the fuse. then i put them all together.







when that had a chance to dry a bit i put white liquid paper over what little seams there were.







the canopy was last and now the entire assembly has a chance to dry. going to head to bed now and hit it again in the morning.

Nice to see that North america is in the grip of Mad Komet Day!! LOL As to Frosty, we'll only have updates on Monday, I think. So for your Nail Polish Remover, Lodni, better head for the shops! LOL

OK, the Mrs is safely at work, and I'm having breakfast (Baked sweet potatoes with metled marshmallows, and bread). I'll be on the go soon again.
