Well, I had some time tonight while waiting for the Formula 1 to come on TV, so I had a go at doing a badge. My photoshop skills aren't the greatest, but I don't think it looks too bad. If you like it, put it in your sig. If you can, could you host it yourself? Just put it in your own photobucket album. If you need to, you can use the one straight from my album;

here it is:

I keep meaning to do a badge for this Group build, but never get around to it. I think we'll start the Moto GP thing up. Should we start up a whole new thread for it? Or just keep using this one? I'll start work on my M1 soon, I've got the spiderman decals on order. Looking forward to starting it.

I'll try and have a look into doing a badge soon, it might get some more interest in the build.

I'm totally in on the idea to combine this GB with a M1 one making it a MotoGP version. I think that would bring it to life again! What I don't like is that terrible idea of SeaBees concerning the badge!!! I almost choked on my breakfast reading about it Big Smile [:D]

Me still busy on West version. Made some nice progress over the weekend, at least.MotoGP GB sounds great. That way the design of the badge (for you artistic types!) will be much easier.... What about *evil grin* just a blue background with a yellow 46 on it! Wink [;)]

That sounds like a good idea. Might get a bit more interest if we make the subject a bit more open i.e MotoGP GB. As you say it looks like the same peeps that are on here just now that are up for an M1 GB.

With the increase in MotoGP kits available we might get the numbers up that way. Count me in anyhoo.

Haven't seen this GB for a while.....How's everyone going? I thought of making a badge for the build a while ago, I even started on it, but nothing happened. I'll see what my limited photoshop skills can do.

There's been talk of a Yamaha M1 group build lately. I don't think there has been a huge amount of interest in it (just the same mob as this one I think). So how would you feel if we maybe combined the two builds? We could call it the Moto GP bike group build or something. Let me know.....

A badge would be good. I'm not much up on these sort of things though, so that's not me volunteering to make one!

This build seems to have petered out a bit. Not been any activity for ages! I'm still at the same point with my build, waiting for the MS-10 spray before I can go any further. Although I have discovered the wonders of www.hlj.com so have ordered them off there as well as the M-1 upgrade parts (metal forks, radio gear etc etc).

So hopefully the kit should be finished soon. I just hope I can remeber what to do when the paints arive! It's been about 3 months since I went near my modeling desk!

Have we decided upon a badge yet? (a to some extent retorical question) Could need something to grasp for... I actually did some quite convincing progress this weekend but it's still far off to call it finished

What you need to do is upload your pics onto a server ( like www.photobucket.com). Then once you have uploaded them, copy the images URL to your message and then put the {img} and {/img} tags around it (but replace the { brackets with the [ ones).Or, if you use photobucket, there is a line underneath the image called img. Just copy that whole line and paste it into your message.

hope it works for you.

If you don't do a "quick reply" like I'm doing now, but a "Reply to topic", you get an image insert option.
Otherwise, if I remember correctly, you insert you url between (IMG) and (/IMG) - just replace the round brackets with square ones - I had to do it that way otherwise the post wont work and will pick up the "and" as an invalid url...

Hey Mitchgixer,
Can you, or anybody for that matter, tell me how you got your pics to show up? The only way I can figure to do it is to post a link to show off my bike pics and that's not what I want to do. Any help is appreciated for this lost one.

Got some update pics available. Just some shots of the bike with the fairing off. I don't like messing about and taking the fairing off all the time, so I think I'll keep these for prosperity! Got some pics of the front fairings decaled up as well, but I forgot to download them from my camera. Maybe just wait until the build is completed before posting those. Here they are.........

Well.....here it is. My '03 Rossi RC211V. I built it pretty much out of the box except for some carbon fiber decal on a few parts. I noticed on the bike, that alot of the parts were painted black so I didn't bother covering everything in CF. Hope you like it.

Now it's onto the M1 group build.

Looking forward to seeing these completed bikes. I've done all that I can for now. Painted the wheels and mounted them on the frame, and also got the forward fairings decaled up and clear coated. Pics as and when I can get them uploaded. Still need paint for the rear cowl and tank..........Disapprove [V]

On the subkect of carbon decals. I would go with media mix if your outwith the US. very good price and fast shipping. I purchased some 1.24th twill weave from media mix for my M1 build as all of the fiber on this bike is his kind. Got it through last week and think it maybe slightly too small a scale. The print is definatley more grey than black. Think I'll order some 1/20th to see if thats any better. A word of warning.........

Well, my RC is nearing completion and I'm really starting to get the itch to begin my M1. In the meanwhile, did you all happen to see this in Tamiya's site?

Just a tiny bit off the subject, but I'm looking at my parts required for this possible YZR-M1 build, and I think I'm going to try carbon fiber decals for once. However, I looked on HLJ.com and they're discontinued. Any other ideas?

That is a nice looking bike. Something different from the usual colour schemes we see.

My RCV is pretty much done. It's all together and just needs a bit of touch up on the bottom of the lower cowling. I'll post some pics of it soon.

Joel, you beat me to it! Beautiful bike, I think, and this coming from a Yamaha guy. MotoGP.com has a good pic. Haven't had a chance to look elsewhere yet. By the way, my '02 Repsol is about 98% finished. Just got a new computer, as soon as I get everything loaded up, I'll post pics.

Have you seen the new 2005 Minolta RCV?? Stunning livery. Just have to lean back and hope for some new cowlings and a decal sheet. If I previously said I was getting tired of RCV's I'll correct myself, I'm getting tired of Repsol, Telefonica and Camel RCV's Smile [:)]

My progress is going well. Most of the mechanical parts have been completed, with just a bit of detail painting to do. I've got a bit more work to do on the body work, just a bit of polishing to bring the shine right up. I'll post some pics soon.

mitchgixer6 I use a product called "easy lift off" by pollyscale to remove my paints. It works on Tamiya lacquers (I know, I had to strip some off another RC211V I did a while ago).

Lucky me - it did not come out too bad. Bubbled very slightly on one oart, which I'll sort out soon. Been busy on my 641/2 a bit, so this one is getting slightly lowered priority. But this and the second layer (new can!) will be sorted this week.

SeaBee; Model fear number one... Rush off and don't even think of stopping, even when it starts to turn out like crap ;-) Done it millions of times and will probably do it again...

mitchgixer 6; I use oven cleaner to remove acrylics and brake fluid to remove laquer paints. Regarding brake fluid and your fears of melting plastic, just put a piece of scrap sprue in the fluid and see how it responds. Take care of your hands and use gloves when picking up the parts. Sometimes you have to scrub them with a tooth brush or such to get rid of all the paint.
best regards

That's too bad. I had the same problem with my first RCV build. Was the first time I had ever used the tamiya sprays so learnt that lesson fairly quickly!

Just for future reference how do you guys completely strip paint from plastic? Before I have always just sanded unsure of which kind of solvents to use. Was always to scared of melting the plastic. Blush [:I]

On my own build, not been doing too much recently, still been waiting on my MS paints which I managed to source one of today. MS-9 is now in my grubby little paws so I can get on with spraying the wheels. Still not got the other though (MS-10), and seeing as it has taken the best part of 2 months to get one, god only knows how long I'll still be waiting. A bit of a supply problem in the UK I'm reliably informed.

So hopefully will get the wheels on at some point next week, which means I will be able to get the forward fairings decaled up as well as the radiator and associated parts attached. Hopefully have some pics up ASAP.

Have a jolly weekend folks. Cool [8D]

Boring me: back to what the thread is all about - RC211V's! Will be doing some delicate evening out of paint to do over the weekend, I'm pretty sure. Went for the spraying of the body parts this morning, feeling the spray can is quite empty. No prob, just a quick first misty layer. Hah! Some went okay. One, fortunately the smallest part - the front "mud"-guard fell over just after having been sprayed.
I should have stopped just before that. But noooo... with the laaast bits of aerosol still left, I did the last few parts. Nothing important or overly in-your-face. Just the fuel tank cover as well the lower and upper cowls. At some times I got mist, at some times I got drops, at some times I got just air, at some times I got a thick stream of paint. Lovely, just the way we all love it! Censored [censored]

So I expect to do a bit of sanding over the weekend, if not full-blown paint removal. Not optimistic, but maybe it went better than expected. Moral of the story. Just because the wind has blown for a week and you could not spray, rush out and do it quickly in the morning before work when the wind is quiet!
Then again, had I used my common sence, I would realise the moral of the story actually is: never (EVER AGAIN!) expect to spray a smooth layer on the last fumes of a can of TS paint! Whistling [:-^]

Have a good (better) weekend, everyone!

I'm backing Cupcai on this one. Their quality is high when it comes to printing. Work here is done by Eric Evain and he's done both wine and water when it comes to decal design but looking at his bike I think the livery looks great. Unfortunately I guess we have to stand a lot of transparent carriage film between the net thread graphics. Could end up with a lot of silvering if you're not careful. I think I'll be ordering two sheets...

Hey, anybody think they can do that bike post-crash? Big Smile [:D] My '02 RC is moving right along now. I took your advice Pingtang and just sprayed over the orange- no problem. Got the engine 90%, frame is done (I'm leaving the factory chrome on, no alclad for this poor schmo) as is the swingarm. Next is finishing the brakes, which always give me a hard time painting the two-tone discs for some reason, wheels, then maybe if there's time I can start the triple tree. That is if I can squeeze it all in before Two Wheel Tuesday on Speed Channel!Cool [8D]

SeaBee; No rear padding for Barros.

Pingtang; Isn't the Spiderman livery stunning?! They will be released in april. Renaissance will print Eric Evains work, wich you will find here - http://perso.wanadoo.fr/eric.evain/

Regarding my own work it has come to a complete stop since my airbrush has started to back feed the air into the paint jar. Probably some O-ring that has burst but it's a pretty rare AB so I don't know if I can get spares. Probably will invest in a new Iwata or Evolution air brush.

GARRR!!! OVERSPRAY! I painted the fairings on my '02 Repsol today. Did the orange first, then the blue. Now, I'm waiting for a few more hours for the orange to dry on the side farings so I can try and airbrush that corner section blue. On your advice, those of you who have built this kit before, I'm keeping the blue and orange completely seperated. That was until I got some orange on an area I was later going to do blue. Now I can't get the Tamiya Vibrant Orange paint off. Tried brush cleaner, windex, no go. I don't want to have to sand since there's a rivet molded in that area that I don't want to disappear. Any ideas?

I likes the sound of a M1 group build. I've got the kit sitting in my cupboard. I might wait and see if someone brings out decals for Melandri's spiderman bike. I think that scheme looks awesome.

Work on my RC211V is going well. I have got most of the fairings clear coated and finished. Most of the frame and engine is all together, with just the forks really needing to be done. I'll hopefully finish soon.

Glad to hear your back on board! I'm felling slightly jealous as my build has been on hold for the past 2 weeks. A mixture of decorating the house as well as still waiting for the MS colours I need for the wheels and fairings. Hopefully they should be through soon.

Count me in for a Yamaha M1 build. I've got this kit ready and waiting to be started after my RCV is done so I'd be up for that.

Happy buliding!Big Smile [:D]

OK, finally I'm back in! Got that V-22 fiasco out of the way and now I'm back in the bike world where I belong! Got the parts washed, and the panels ready for airbrushing tomorrow. I know I'm WAY behind most of you, but if I make the most of my weekend, maybe I can narrow the gap. Think after all this is over and we all decide on a possible end date, maybe we could throw together a YZR-M1 GB? Or am I kidding myself due to the somewhat limited subject matter (Gauloises out now, Fortuna next month)? Just wondering, my M1 kit is practically screaming at me to be built.

No, never thought it being anything else than a question. Never saw anything in there that put me down. No worries!
As for the alclad, I just got a mail that mine has been shipped (along with a kit I ordered). Got both chrome and polished aluminium. So soon I'll start seeing how good that stuff really is!

I have finished the bike and will start the next one this week. Took some pics and all... and promptly forgot them at home today.

I used chrome for my exhausts, but polished aluminium would do the job. Mine didn't turn out the greatest ever, but I can see the potential. I think mine would have looked better if I had of worked harder on getting the gloss black base coat smoother.

QUOTE: Daniel, don't laugh, the exhausts was done with good ole Tamiya TS-17... My alclad should be under way shortly. Till then, I'll stick to "rattlecan silver". Touched pipes up with a bit of metalizers brass and exhaust.

Your exhausts look great seabee. I didn't mean to sound like I was putting them down or anything. I was just stating how much I like alclad.

Pingtang; Do you use polished aluminum or chrome when you use Alclad for the exhaust?
SeaBee; "The camera never lies" is a terrible lie nowadays ;-) I imagine that the flash has done some bad this time.

Joel, it must be the photo... maybe the way the flash well, or something, but when I checked it out yesterday eve, I saw that the rivets actually is painted. Really does not look like it on the pic, though! I know I usually do it and I felt rather silly for seemingly having forgotten it.

Great looking progress Seabee. What did you use for the chrome on the exhaust? I ask because I've just painted mine with some alclad, and I love the stuff now. Thanks for sharing the pics.

My progress has started again. I did the exhausts as mentioned, and am now starting to assemble the frame and swing arm.

And no, I "cheated" on this one. The original plating looked very good to me and so I left it on. Most often nowadays I tend to take it off, though. But this was, as you can see, in good enough condition. Also, as you mentioned, the colour looked a bit different from the usual chroming. Why, I don't know... (and it's not just the pic!)

SeaBee: Engine looks great. Did you paint the frame? Seems to have a slight more pearl effect than the original plating. Only thing I could think of is that you should paint the silver rivets on the brake discs. Perhaps it's on is way but that would highlight the front.

I must just again say how impressed I am at Tamiya's effort with these kits. Glad this is the one kit I have several of! Everything went together well, despite my best efforts. The onlt small thing that did not give me a fuzzy feeling of warmth, was the fit of the cowling for the seat. Caused a very minor struggle with the rear cowling, but not a problem.

The highlight was their new invention - the next best thing since better defined rear wing element grooves on their more recent F1's... - a glueless "visor" window.

Anyways, here is how it looked during the week - hope it works. Busy decalling at this stage, will take a few days, then I'll be done.

A tip could be to mount the fairings on the frame/engine block so that you will get the exact position. Otherwise it works to tape them together on the back with masking tape. I too cut the decal whilst it is not yet fully cured. That way I can press the decal down into the crave.

Hey, waiting for my first alclad to arrive as well from the other side of the water. Won't be here for a while, though. Looking forward to it very much!

Mitch, I replied on your other thread. Basically, I agree with Daniel. But I cut it whilst still not fully cured. Sharp blade, hold onto both sides. That way you can get the edges conforming nicely to the contours. Also, you can move it around a bit for a better look, should it be needed. Sometimes I found it necessary.

Mitch- That's exactly what I would do. Just apply the decal over the crack and wait for it to cure. Then just cut it with a new blade. It's hard to judge where to make the cut if you do it before you put the decal on.

I got some alclad chrome the other day, so now I am getting back into my bike. I want to see how the stuff looks on my exhaust pipes. I've got to get some carbon fibre decal soon too, so I'll have to wait a while for that.

LOL. That's a good one SeaBee! I'm sure we all have those kind of moments from time to time. I know I have missed stuff like that before. Blush [:I]

Looking for some advice on my decaling. Sprayed the fairings that I can (still waiting on the flourescent sprays to come through) and i should hopefully be decaling the front fairings shortly. Was wondering what you guys do when having to split a decal? I'm talking about the ones that sit across 2 different fairings. i.e the lower fairing and the side ones. I know of at least one on each side that sits across these 2 and I'm sure there is another on the rear seat cowl.

In order to take the fairings off in future these decals will have to be split. I'm sure you guys understand what I'm saying but just want to try and make it as clear as possible.

Before when I have had to do this I have layed the decal on and cut it after it has cured. Is this the best way or should I try and cut it before I apply? Or is there another method available. Want to try and get it looking as good as I can as all attempts I have made at this before have been a bit rubbish to be honest.

Any helpmuch appreciated folks.

Now you can understand why I could see no attachment points for the tubing! Feel like a total idiot!

I have inserted the one end on the electrical box. Could not find the place to fix the other end(s) on the handlebar, though. Will check more thorough after work. Light will be better then, anyways! Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks fellas, your comments are much appreciated.

Seabee- One end of that "A" tubing goes to the small electrical box (part D2) stuck on the side of the fuel injection assembly in step 2. You'll see one end of the hoses in step 13. Then they feed over the frame and through the forks to the small knobs on the right hand handle bar (part B18 which is attached to part D53 in step 15).

Hope it helps you.

One for the guys that's allready finished one... I was about to install some of the tubing on the front side. Before starting on the new tubes, I had a look at existing tubing that has to be done. Ah, the "A" tube must be attached, seemingly below the right side.

Now this is where you guys come in. Where? I simply can't see any place to attach the A tubing anywhere? Am I loosing it? Are my eyesite going? Have I just missed something? Where does the A tubing attach? Can't remember the step number, but it's the one where you add a bunch of tubing on the front side, cutting B, C and D, if I remember correct. It's from the 03 Camel kit, if it makes any diffs.

Help will be much appreciated! Comments on my mental well-being and the state of my eyes will be carefully considered... Wink [;)]

Pingtang, that's looking good! I will look towards adding a pic shortly.

Looking great Mitch. The engine looks well painted. Thanks for the pics.

Now, for my progress, which at the moment, isn't very much. I haven't done any work on my build for a few weeks. It's actually back in the box at the moment while I struggle with another (much more painful) build. I'm hoping to pull it back out again soon though.

For now though, here's a pic of where I'm up to. The bodywork pieces still need a clear coat over the decals and the engine needs the clutch cover added. Hope you like it so far.

Cheers for those positive comments. Hopefully will have some more updates shortly. Sounds like your getting on OK Seabee. Any chance of some pics???

On my own build. Had a not so good day yesterday. Put the decals on the swingarm before attaching the hugger, suspension etc. Left it over night to cure. So came back to glue the other bits on. Put them on, and whilst admiring my work noticed that the "unit pro link" decal on the chain side had come off! Argh! No where to be seen. Lost and don't have a spare. Will need to live without that on the swingarm.

If that wasn't bad enough i then sliced my thumb open with a #11 exacto trying to trim down the exhaust hanger! Not a good day at all yesterday. Think I need afew days off to recouperate!

Hope you guys are having more fun than me at the minute.

Got some progress pics. Hope they turn out OK as it's my first time posting pics as well as the first pics I've taken on my new digi cam. Here goes.......

Engine components before assembly

Some pics of the engine assembled

Some pics of the frame....

And some pics of the brake disks before assembly...

Hope these look OK. Might be abit dark so will need to get that sorted for the next update.

Got my carbon decals from Mediamix through this morning so hopefully there should be some good progress made in the next few days. Currently working on the swing arm , chain, suspension etc at the moment. Still waiting on my spray paints though.......

Don't worry Chris, you're not an idiot for missing out on what I wanted to say. Guess it wasn't very easy to get my point. What I wanted to share was the pic of a Camel bike with a slightly different livery than the ones I've seen during races. If I hadn't started on my own kit I would have built this one. Here's a pic where I've circled the area I'm talkning about. This yellow part is black on my other reference pics.

Hey Joel.. I looked at the pic of the camel bike.. WHat am I missing?.. Looks normal to me.. Must be just me?... When I look at the Camel bike.. I always prefer the larger Honda eagle decal that takes up the whole tank, as they have on the Repsol bikes... Lastly.. The Pramac decals.. where do you get them?

Dont worry.. I am truelly an idiot!

thanks, as I said the red on the Pramac doesn't match the decals as you'll se on finished bike but overall it's satisfying. They will cure for a week or so and then get some clear. Heard today that my Rainbow10 order is being dispatched so soon I can put some paint on the Teléfonica again.

First my thaught and deepest sympathies with the Meoni family. Very sorry for your loss.

Next to some progress pics. As it happened I had the chance to borrow a digital camera last night and snapped some photos. They're taken inside and with a fool behind the lens so bare with me on the quality.

First is the cowling parts of the Camel bike. Done as the bike Biaggi used duing qualify of the Dutch TT at Assen.

Next is the livery of Makoto Tamadas Pramac bike from the Italian GP.
The front fender is missing as my putty job was below my level of satisfaction. The "red" paint on the seat cowl and lower cowl is not matching the color of the decals... It looked good after first coat but after three it is too red...

last a pictures of the frame/swing arm threesome. The Teléfonica set to the far left isn't decaled yet as it has to get some more AlcladII on the swing arm. Left the foremost section of the frames out as it's not visible and the foot protection is left out to be decalled with CF.

Open-ended will work for me in the sense that (like yesterday eve) I still have to do a lot of stuff around the house. And 3/4 being through one (and two other builds going) does not bid well for starting on a new one shortly. But Joel has a point.

Apart from that, I was just too stunned yesterday after hearing of the tragic loss of Fabricio Meoni. I was planning on doing a MTB ride the afternoon and just decided to rather leave it, after hearing the news; never touched my MTB yesterday. Thoughts to his family and friends, esp those that still have to complete the rest of the Dakar.

SeaBee; the difference lies in the part upon which the seat cowling is mounted. Don't know the name but it's the part to wich you also attach the muffler. On the racing liveries and the Tamiya model this part is black but on the pictures it has the yellow color of other cowling parts. Looks nice if you ask me but the decals is different from the ones I've applied.
About the TS-51 "racing blue" it is that paint that the instructions call for. As Pingtang sais it's a close match anyhow but be careful and apply very thin coats as it easily gets too dark.

TS-51 is a bit of a generic colour I think. I first used it for the Telefonica Suzuki RGV-500, when it was called Telefonica blue. Then they called it Racing blue and used it for the Williams FW-24 and Telefonica RC211V. Now it's being used for the Yamaha YZR-M1 '04. I think it's too dark for most of these kits, but it's close enough so I'll use it.

Nice pics, Joel. As it happens, the colour I first had was actually spot-on. So here goes for another attempt.... strip, repaint, what's new...?!

Btw, excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the diffs between the Camel livery on the pic (which's url you enclosed above) and the normal 03 Camel livery?

And, to add, I just came back from LHS. As it happens, I bought TS51. No, not for the Telefonica ride, but for the WRC GB. But, to add to your suspicions that the hue might not be right (for at least this Telefonica model), I see TS51 is now renamed! It is no longer "Telefonica Blue" as it was when I bought my first TS51 a couple of years ago, but "Racing Blue". What colour do Tamiya prescribe in their instructions?

If I hadn't started the decalling of the Camel bike I would definately go for this livery. Think it looks gorgeous with the seat part painted yellow instead of black.

[hubris mode on] Woohaa, I'm model god!!! Henry Ford would be proud of me as I'm making RCV engines like a maniac...[hubris mode off]

Well, what I wanted to say was that the three engines are coming together nicely, yesterday I stripped the frame and swing arm and painted it AlcladII polished aluminum. I've painted the rims but sort of diluted the paint to much so the spokes came out too dull. Decalling is almost done on the fairings of the Camel and Pramac bikes. The Telefonica one has to wait as I don't like the hue of the TS-51 color. Will strip it and repaint. My TS-17 can splashed all over so I'll airbrush the radiator instead.

SeaBee: Both repsol and telefonica machines of 2003 seems to use a darker shade of brown while camel seems to have a bit lighter colored tri clamp. As Pingtang sais it's probably changed during the season so go for something that looks good.
Take a look at my references that I posted earlier, think you can manage to see some of it there.

I must say, this is my first RC211V and this thing just goed together great! One of the best fits I have yet seen on a bike model! Just added the radiator, front suspension will be next victim.

Quick question: what is the colour of that top part (between handlebars) for these guys? Doing Max's 2003 ride... I have both colours Tamiya subscribe to mix, but one in acrylic and one enamel! So much for that mix...At this stage I started using a Metalizer Burnt Iron, a very dark brown-black with a bit of a coppery undertone. Close enough?

Hi Guys

How are we all getting on with the build? I just started my Valencia bike today. Got most of the engine parts painted up and awaiting assembly. Still waiting on the sprays I need from the shop as well as some more C/F decal sheets. Might have to put the build on hold till I get them but I will carry on with what I can do in the mean time. Just as well we're not against the clock eh?

On another matter I got a digital camera as a christmas present so I will be able to get some progress pics on here for all to see. Thats if I can figure out how to download them off the camera as I dont have a PC at home just now!

Have fun modeling folks.

As far as I know, there is not a set completion date, as we are all in various stages of commitment. I am 60% through one, but will be starting another one directly after that. So at this stage it's an open-ended informal sharing and learning session.

Naah, there's no rules! Not in the GB, not in modeling. You will find the purists hunting you down a bit - too bad. If there's not one checking your display cabinet carefully, they'll never know the exhaust, etc. is that of the 03 bike, most people only note the colourscheme.

Looks good, though! Better paint job than on my current Camel one! Starting the front end of that one tonight, btw.

Chris, I think your bike looks awesome. It looks a lot better than my first bike did. The paint job looks very nicely done and the finish is very smooth. Thanks for sharing.

An update on my build. I have built and painted most of the engine and painted and decalled some of the bodywork. All is going well at the moment, and I might have some progress pics up soon.

Hope to see some pics of everyone elses builds soon.

Hi Chris!
Don't beat yourself up, I think your bike looks great.
Regarding doing the 2004 livery there is no rule. Build however you like as long as it makes you happy. This GB is also only a RC211V GB so I can't see why you shouldn't be able to do it as you like.
When it comes to realism thats another thing, then you should have done some more work to cowlings, front fender, swing arm, exhaust etc to get it right but hey, I think it looks good.

Sorry I havnt been around.. But I have been on the build with a few projects...

Well I got so excited with this build, I actually finished it.. But Then had to run out and buy another to add to it!.. I did the 2003 Repsol Bike with the added metal parts.. Problem is, I did it in the 2004 colors.. Is that cool, or is that breaking the rules?...

Anyways, I am in the middle of doing the Camel bike.. But have needed a rest after applying one decal.. hahahaha

I have added a few pics of my Repsol bike.. ps.. This was the first bike I have ever built.. So I was flying blind.. I just wished I could do these bikes like some of you better guys!

Yamahafreak: The one thing I've read somewhere on a site (and I'll have to go and look for it) where somebody built that version, it was stated that the instructions said to paint the orange first on an overlapping (as far as paint is concerned) part. That causes the blue to turn green, due to the intensity of the orange.

I might have gotten it the wrong way around and the orange might be the second colour and that was the one discolouring. Bottom line: there was a stern warning to mask those areas and not overlap the paint.

Anyone who did it had similar problems? I will try and find the site and confirm...

Mitchgixer6- I like using Tamiya's TS-29 semi-gloss, mostly because I get too lazy to get the airbrush out. It gives just as good a finish as an airbrush anyway, and a lot better than brushing.

Yamafreak- Like mitchgixer6 said, the decals aren't the greatest in the world. It's worth spraying some white underneath where the white decal sections on the cowl go. The decals are pretty transparent and show the orange. Also, make sure you don't spray to thick a clear coat over them. I ruined a set by spraying Tamiya TS-13 clear on too thick (that's why my last one turned out as a west bike Smile [:)]). The kit builds up exactly the same as the '03 version with different cowl panels and some detail differences.

Either 1/20 or 1/24 scale carbon fibre decals would look fine. I used 1/12 decals on my '02 RC211V and they do look slightly out of scale. Scalemotorsport are the only ones that I've used, and they are easy to use. You just might need something a little stronger than microsol to make them conform to curvy surfaces.

Joelwideqvist- Great reference pics mate, Thanks.

Yamafreak

I have some C/F decals from http://www.scalemotorsport.com/
Very easy to use for a first timer and plenty of it to experiment with. In terms of the scale I would recommend 1/24 for a 1/12 bike. I used 1/12 for my last build (NSR500) and although it looks ok it is definatley a little too big. I posted on here for some thoughts and all the replies pointed towards the 1/24. I'm gonna buy some for my Valencia build. As for the 2002 build I think it should be pretty similar to the 2003 kits you have done allready. I'm the other way round, finished a 2002 and now doing a 2003. Think the actual assembly should be very similar. As for the decals I had a little trouble with the side "Repsol" ones, but that was before I discovered Microsol! I also found the white on this portion of the bike was a little transparent.

Joel

Excellent pics mate. Thanks very much. Big Smile [:D]

Hello all,

I've done three RCVs so far (Telefonica, Repsol, Biaggi/Camel), all '03 versions. I'll be tackling Rossi's '02 Repsol for this build. Anything I need to look out for in this version? I saw on one site that the decals can be a pain (don't want to talk about the problems with the Telefonica's I had) and they changed to the '03. Also, who has the best C/F decals out there? I'm looking at using 1/20 maybe considering some comments I've read on how 1/12 looks on these bikes. Also, awesome reference pics, Joel!
Status: Nastro Azzurro NSR 500- finis!

The actual page is burried deep down at my swedish web so here's a direct link.

I'm with SeaBee here, I like working with TS-29 (semigloss black) and TS-14 (black) cause they make a much more solid coat that's easy to polish and clear coat.

I might get slaughtered by the pursists here, but I'm never without the semi-gloss black rattle-can spray! All kits have at least one sprue that needs it, so I tend to blast away merrily with two dust coats (whilst still on sprue) and then do touch-ups later by hand.

It just makes it a heck of a lot quicker and easier. Works for me...

Glad to hear that some of you bods have got started on the kits.

I'm off to get the piants and sprays that I need at then end of the week. Noticed in the instructions that Tamiya now have a spray version of X-18 semi gloss black. Do you guys think it's worth getting hold of this spray instead of the paint? I don't have an airgun. I also noticed it's used alot on the Yamaha M-1 kit. Worth spending £8 on????

I opened the box on my RC211V today. Those detail-up parts look good, I never like painting those springs, so a pre-painted one is good. Might do some painting today.

Hi guys!
I'll definately go for this one and enter three projects, as follow;
Camel RC211V '03 (Biaggi qualify bike for Dutch GP)
Teléfonica RC211V '03 (Katoh version)
Pramac RC211V (Tamada bike from Italian GP)

I've started them off slightly and did some exhaust work yesterday (very tired...) and glued the mufflers together in the wrong way... have to fix that today...

About the Valencia version..except the new exhaust sile that featured already on the factory Repsol bike during later races of the season there is a slight change of the side cowlings and to the front fender compared to the Tamiya kit. The cowlings reaches a bit further back and the fender is also a bit longer. I have some referenses on my site, I'll post a link.
best regards

Some on there of other RCV's as well which could be helpfull.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!!!

I have the first TMMI mag with the RC211V's in it (the camel one and telefonica), but unfortunately there are no reference pics in there. Haven't seen the other mag yet so it might have some reference pics in it.

From memory (and in my case that doesn't count for much...): Two consecutive copies of TMMI had reviews of four of the RC211V's, two per magazine. I don't have it, just remember seeing it on their site. Latish issues from this year. I think one has the Camel & Telefonica versions and one the Rossi 03 and the Valencia kit (Austin Powers). Maybe there'll be some pics there.

I also had a look on the official motogp.com site, there's a few pics of the bike there. And as pingtang said, it's the same bike as he used the rest of the year (latter part), so except for the paint-job, reference photo's will work.

Good to have you in mate. Don't know of any specific references for the Austin Powers bike, but it was pretty much the same bike as the rest of the season. So the links I added further up the page should be helpful. I think the main difference between those photos and the valencia bike is a new configuration exhaust silencer.

Anyone got any good close-up detail shots of the 2003 RC211V? I've got some, but would like some more of the engine and other parts.

Thanks
