Darren -

It's been a bit hectic at work so haven't been awake enough to log in some evenings... in 2 weeks we go back to a regular schedule so I should be on more. Plus I have been dabbling with the Hasegawa FW-190 A8 and enjoying myself with it.. really haven't got too far as I am waiting on my Cutting Edge seats to arrive for it. The engine really surprised me as the detail is great! I think it looks right smart, I used MM Burnt Metal for the cylinders and washed them with oil and I like the effect!!! I'm going to try it on the next radial engine I do and see how it stacks up... but I think I have found my choice of paints...

bob & nick:
very nice work, guys !

progress report:
i have not been kidnapped & held hostage by the infamous Nurse Kremps,
despite any rumours 2 the contrary... Big Smile [:D]
the bf-109 is waiting patiently while i decide on the paint scheme,
i have a few choices from JG 27 & will probably need 2 redo the colors
of sand beige & lichtblau based on my final choice...
kit seems 2 have a little fit problem at the back edge of the wing/fuselage join,
there's a step where the wing sits proud of the underside of the fuse...
this should b flush, yes ?

Nick ditto on the cushion Big Smile [:D]

Tom, don't worry about me Charlie & I have friends and we managed to avoid Kremps clutches by the skin of our teeth.
As for Jules, I might just have to give him a call tomorrow night and find out what happening with that busted poota of his.
Speaking of absences, where have you been hiding for the last few days, I thought you might be on holidays.

Cheers

Tony - looking good! I kinda wish I had done the Ford Quad tractor afterall... there was so much talk of armor at the beginning of this I wanted to balance a little. Now except for a few it was all aircraft.

Nick
- nice house! I like the cusion as well too... when you get finished and post pics of your build make sure to get one of the cusion next to the model.. Wink [;)]

Darren - good to see ya around again! Was worried Kremps had gotten to you.. Jules is still MIA and I am fearing the worst... (that he was set up as a puppet ruler of some pygmy island by Kremps and they won't let him leave out of superstition that the "big one" will be angry and take retribution if he does!)

Nick I see you're stuck out in the garage, which is a bit of a bummer but at least you've got somewhere to model.
Also, as far as the P-40B goes, I am fairly certain it did not see action with American forces, only RAF and Commonwealth countries flew it in Nth Africa. I think (happy to be proved wrong here) that the first P-40 model the Americans used in Nth Africa was the P-40E.

Tony good looking Dingo Thumbs Up [tup]

Well I have made a little progress on my kits. I painted the underside (gearbox, transmission, etc..) of the Kubelwagen as well as the seats and some of the other details. I'd say that it's about 90% done now. The 109 is fully assembled and I'm now masking it up so that I can start painting.

Cheers

Hi Guys,
I'm finally working on the Daimlre Dingo for this build. Main construction is pretty much done, and I'm just prolonging the agony with some photoetch. My only comment on the kit is that its an old, ill fitting kit.
The Eduard photo etch set is interesting. It has anice dozer blade, which I was really keen to use, but they got the dimensions wrong, and it's not wide enough, so you can't really use it.
Here's the photo anyway, I'm going to ride this one home now.
Cheers.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Bob nice work on the Mustang, the weathering and finish look fantastic Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom & Tanky I have found with AM instructions that you really DO need to read them first and follow what they say or else you can get into all sorts of bother.

Nick, some of the more common allied (British) fighters were P-40 (B,E,K & N), Spitfire Mk.V & Mk.VIII and the Hurricane Mk.I & II. Then if you add in the stuff that Tom has mentioned there are plenty of budget kits around that you should be able to pick up.

YG your Matilda is looking good. I can't wait to see it with some paint on.

Cheers all

Tanky - the instructions take some getting used to, but once you build it go back over them and I think they will seem a LOT clearer and make sense... thats what happened with my first SBD by them... after I built it I understood totally what they meant, and they actually were great in retrospect!!! It was a matter of how I read them that wasnt working for me...

Bob - that's looking really nice!!! I like the weathering.. real good job on the overall paint as well... hang in there and like I told Karl.. one day you'll wake up and BAM!!! you'll be done!

Nick - there's several decent Spitfire kits out there. A Mk.V or Mk.VIII would work well for this. The Tamiya Wildcat is a good kit too and not real expensive. Only about $11.00, it can either be done as a British Martlet or true F4F Wildcat as they were used for air cover both in the resupply of Malta and Operation Torch. The SBD by Monogram I am not sure of but it won't break your pocketbook...

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you there's several kits there off the top of my head that would work including the ones I mentioned. The 1/72 Fieseler Storch, P-47 (they never saw combat as far as I know but were there) F4F Wildcat, Bf-109 etc.. etc.. etc..

If you go to the first page of the Gb and check out some of the things others built it might give you an idea. I noticed you were talking about a Tempest for this.. although they didn't get realeased till later, the Typhoon was there (in very small numbers) if you feel like building one of those! (the older sibling of the Tempest)

Wow Bob, that's looking really good. Great job on the weathering. What paint did you use on the spinner? Got to do a red spinner on mine as well. If I can ever find it under the mountain af boxes that is. Moving sucks!!!

Making slow progress on the Mustang. Since last post (I think) decaled, flat coat, pastel weathering & another dull coat. Still need to mask & paint canopy (I hate doing canopies!), attach landing gear, prop, exhausts & final weathering. Maybe with a good tail wind I can finish by the end of July.....

thanks Karl.
On the smoke dischargers know. But it does kinda look like it. I think its just the excess glue.Banged Head [banghead] But on the hatch There was a gap where the turret and hatch were supposed to meet so I added a piece of wire solder.Confused [%-)]or something like wire solder.

YGGreat looking Matilda, is that some PE you've added to the commanders hatch and smoke dischargers?

Tom From what I've heard the cockpit is possibly the weakest part of the kit, not a very weak part, just open to improvement. The MDC pit is stunning, and best of all it just pops in place of the kit item. It even comes with the decals for the cockpit dials, all with the corrcet readings for a static aircraft!

The bit to watch out for is the engine cowl, as the joints don't match real panel lines in certain areas. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Rick Thanks, I've never known a single colour camo scheme take so long, apart from my BoB Hurricane that is!!!!!

Here's some progress pics!

My dad did the wheels and such things. He also did the gun mantlet.
I did everything else.
This is a very good kit with only a couple fit problems.
