Thanks for the encouragement Daniel.

The MS406 is no shake and bake, but I'm still enjoying it . It's certainly stretching my limited skill set and forcing me to try a few things that I would never have done before.

There's a lot to be said for the odd complete ****** of a kit, every now and then, most of it unrepeatable, and distinctly Anglo Saxon.

The 109 is another HC number re-boxed by Academy, but in a completely different league in terms of detail etc.

Best of luck with the F14

ok I am going through an identity crisis right now... I started my Spit, then remembered the Martlet and want to do that one, but I dont wanna stop the Spit... so I am sitting here having an inner discussion... I need to start following what Jules does... he has a little bracelet on his wrist that says: WWKD ("What Would Kremps Do?) that helps in his daily decision making. It's also how he almost ended up in jail last yr! Wink [;)]

I hate to stop a kit I have momentum going on, but that Martlet is calling me... of course a Us Naval Deck Blue Spit is kind of uncommon as well! Confused [%-)]

Tom:
I think you know what I'm going to advise. You know what you have to do. Make the hard decision, and build another MARTLET, and then another.

Mind you, I love Spitfires too. What is that blue scheme you mention ?

Cheers
Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Karl:
Tough luck on the Morane. I'd spend the next week cursing if it were me. If you were to look for a bright side, at least the paint wasn't wet when you dropped it.
Good luck fixing it.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Karl - sorry to hear that... all that work.. but I know you'll get it right again!

Tony - look one page back, I have a scan of the instruction sheet from the decals. A group of 50 Spits were ferried to Malta by the US on one of her aircraft carriers during Operation Calendar. To camo them the Navy guys painted them deep blue, which some speculate was nothing else but plain deck paint...

Guys Thanks for the encouragement.

I've just glued the wing seam again, and applied some new putty around the trailing edge joint, both above and below the wing.

All in all not as bad as it could have been.

Should be back on track in a few days.

Karl Good to hear the damage wasn't too bad, I hate it when all ten of my thumbs don't cooperate with one another.

I got some preshading done on my bf-109 (my first try at this) The result was it looked like I let my dog participtae in my hobby... but it should be OK once the real colors go on.

Rick - it's been so busy here lately it slipped my mind... here you go, my 1:1 scratchbuilt of a Bagle.

Getting him to sit still for the sanding and putty was the hardest part!

---edit---

he is laying on his recently-purloined-from-the-bathroom towel... luckily he can't open the linen cabinet door yet so the good ones are safe (for now) He is quite the accomplished thief, although he hasn't destroyed anything he has stolen yet except the wifes Anne Mcafree book... (in fact he is rather gentle with the things he stelas, even guarding them from the other dogs)

---edit 2 ---

I just relooked at the pic and am horrified at the length of his nails... can you believe we just cut them less than a week ago? I think we are feeding him too good!!!

Wow, has he ever grown in the last few weeks. Great looking Bagle. He is maturing into a very cool dog. Your'e braver than me if you clip their nails. I bought the clippers, tried it once & said never again. Our Corgi only needs hers clipped every three months, so I pay the groomer to do it when we take her in. Course if I had 3 to shell out $10 a clip, I might rethink that. Thanks for posting & give em all a pat & a biscuit for me.

Dave & Jules Thanks for the kind words.

Have left the MS in it's box for the last day or so, letting the putty cure, and equilibrium return!

Gave me a chance to make a start on the 109D, but that's another story altogether.

Tom I always like my bagles with smoked salmon and crean cheese!

JulesThe Academy boxing of the old HC kit.

Very nice little kit, few minor fit problems, but nothing a little shimming and a skim of filler won't sort out.

I was looking at doing Gothard Hadrick's(sic) Condor Legion machine, and picked up the Cutting Edge sheet , but am finding I'm more and more drawn to one of the Norway based machines of JG2 or JG26, one of which is Macki Steinhof's.

The 109Ds were in a pretty rough state by mid 1940, with lots of paint chipping, fading, and oil staining, so just my bag really.

If you do fancy doing the Condor Legion bird at some point, let me know, and I'll send you the decals.

Don't know much about Steinhof, just one of those names that I know for obscure reasons.

Yes-- it was Steinhoff.....I am reading Gallands biography now-- some great stuff! And it has some awesome profiles of his various rides. Every so often, my library comes through!

looking forward to the pics Rick!

Question - what color was the Sutton Harness (Late war 1942-1945) Every ref I could find (of course all I could find in color was pics of models) showed a very light tan, or maybe slightly tannish white. SO I went with it for times sake. But I have another Spit for another GB and an ultracast seat waiting on it!

I am about ready to clos ethe cockpit on the spit... should have pics prior to closing.. hopefully tonight!!

Tom, a light tan would be appropriate.

thanks Rick! the only color photo of the actual harness I could find was in a museum and of course it was a bit yellow... but it appeared to be originally the colors I had seen on the models...

quick progress report on my 109 - all the decals are on and weathering done, not sure if it is enough but I think that it looks good. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot some pics tonight after I finish up with all the little parts in the cockpit( shoulder belts, etc) and a bit of touch up.

Dont think that I'm going to do the B-24, it is a monster kit and there is a F-14B "bombcat" that has been screaming for attention.
I do have a Mk. IX spit that I am planning on dressing in american markings but I think that the dacals I have place it in Italy in `43. Perhaps that will also get some attention!!!
