Tanky - the white one with patterns... can ya snap a pic of it again for me without the model? I kind of like that table cloth.. can't wait to see your finished 109!

Everyone else: The black K is moments from completion but I decided to take a break tonight as it was a long week and I need the relaxation. Actually beyond securing the lateral antennae I am done. Got the canopy and other glass bits on, the "special decal" is now safely behind a layer of future and dullcoat, and the bulk of the kit is in place.. I decided not to go with the drop tanks as they look a shade or so lighter than the undersides of the plane.. I don't know why as it is the same bottle of paint!

Anyway pics tomorrow when the sun is out (we are having severe thunderstorms rolling through about every hour on the hour)

looks good Tanky!!! smooth paint job... As Rick mentioned to me... I'll tell you what's wrong once you are done with it. Wink [;)]

the base is going to look good too... I've pondered putting a base on the Martlet but think I will wait till a future build I am pondering.. the aircraft I am thinking of was based in Sicily so the same color sand would work well for me too..

BTW: what happened to the tablecloth from your previous posts? I kinda liked it!!!

hmmmm... funny thing Rick... so is mine! fancy that!

Well I hate to say this but I have come to the point in the building of the Black "K" that I can no longer post progress pics... the final unveiling will be in a day or two but until then it will be a blind process. (I got the decal on, want it to be a fresh look when I post it)

broke the antenna off, it's reglued and drying, I am trying to figure out what Tamiya intended me to attach the lateral antenna wire to on the fuselage, might have to put a drop of slow drying CA there to make an "insulator" of sorts, I looked through my F4F in action book and there is clearly a very visible insulator there...

anyway, just some fiddly stuff like the landing lights and such after dullcoating over the decal and I should be set for final pics!

OK I did manage to take some pictures for Fusspot A (Tom) and Fusspot A Major (Rick)

The 109 is by no means finished. Tailwheel needs to be painted, antena and antenna wire need to be added, drop tank and drop tank holder need to be painted. But here are some pics. Ground work is Celluclay sprayed desert yellow, and then playground sand put thorugh a coffee filter followed by a heavy dusting of mig pigments.

Verdammt! Photobucket is acting up. Expect and edit to this post to actually contain the pics.

Darren, Yes. You need to let the decal cure before you respray the Future.

Bob, I have a Paasche H as well as a couple of other AB's. I've never used the #5 tip. I use the #3 for everything except fine lines & mottle, where I use the #1 tip. Since I bought the Badger 100LG a while back, I use the Paasche mostly for Future these days.

Bob Didn't know you were using a Paasche H. That's what I use so hope you don't mind a little advice. I have not used Tamiya paints (yet) but I use other acrylics and generally use almost no thinner with them, maybe a couple of drops like 10:1 paint to thinner ratio. Secondly, I use the #3 tip for almost everything except larger areas. The #1 gets clogged with "Tip Dry" too easily. To get narrower lines with the #3 tip close up the tip until it is almost closed and then dial up the air pressure a little higher (25-30psi). This helps with the Tip Dry problem and gives you a tighter line. I generally use about 20psi for normal brushing. Hope this helps!

Dave-that's exactly what I did last night on the 'test mule' Zero and it worked great. I still need to practice on the 'tight' lines, but felt good enought to paint the belly of the Mustang. Might put the Middle Earth on this pm if schedule allows.

Thanks for the tips-will practice on the tight lines using your tips.

btw-do you ever use the #5 tip?

Rick That's me on a good day too!!!!

Tom I resemble that comment! The bottom box is full of Semovente wheels all masked up ready for painting, and the top box has the part masked canopy for the 109D balanced on top, just asking to be lost! That not posed, that's just careless!

Darren A second coat of Future usually sorts out the whiteness.

Thanks guys... this was a fun build. I am astonished that after all these Kremps-inspired builds, you guys haven't come up with a "Kremps GB" !!!!

Thanks Tom, I'll give your suggestion a try on what left of the decals (it certainly can't get any worse). I'm also thinking to use a new bottle of Micro Set that I have as the current one is about 5 years old now.

---edit---

Rick, do you mean to let it cure for another 24 hours with the decals on and then re-spray?

Cheers
Darren

I always let the Future cure at least 24 hours & usually 48 hours. I've only had it happen a couple of times & that was during high humidity. The reaction is caused by the alcohol in the setting solution. If it occurs, let it recure for 24 hours & resparay a Future top coat. 99% of the blemish will magically disappear.

hmmm I usually let my future sit overnight Darren... I know my microset causes the future to go white around the decals but a coat of future on top of that makes it go back to clear... but you say it did it under the decals as well? ********* Actually in retrospect (this is an edit) mine have done that too... let the decal dry overnight as well and shoot the fuselage with future and I think it will go away...

Future Help Needed

Last night I had a major problem with Micro Set reacting badly with the coat of Future protecting the paint work on my Brewster Buffalo. The Micro Set actually turned the Future under the decals into a “milky white” shade of the original color. This is the same thing that happened to me on my BoB Spitfire, although at the time I didn’t realise what was the cause of the problem. Apart from the fact that I almost binned the kit in frustration I have now completely ruined my decals and stuffed the paint job.

I have used Micro Set and Future combination for a few years now with no problems, so my questions are how long should I leave the Future to cure before applying any setting solution to it? Could this be caused by something that I have not thought of?

Help please
Darren

Bob Bad luck on the 'stang, hope take 2 goes better for you.

I tried posting a pic of myself and my work bench, but it killed Photobucket.......

.......no honest it did!

Anyway, here's hoping you haven't eaten recently......

.....more importantly the workbench.....

....see covered in junk!

Note Ikea spice racks for paints, think I need to get some more. My comp and a rudimentary spray booth live under the desk, you can just see them.
