Well, things went from bad to worse. In a vain attempt to fix the wing root issue on the Mustang & "touch-up", I have "Windex'ed" the entire plane.

I'm having multiple AB issues (using Tamiya paint & thinner, 1:1 ratio & the #1 (small) needle on the Passche H). I'm going to pull out an unfinished Monogram Zero and practice on it for a couple of days before I reattempt the Mustang. Going to try different needle (#3 med) and mixture ratios. Think I may have the paint too thin. Also I have the coiled air compressor hose hooked up in conjunction with the AB hose. Going to disconnect the coiled line and use the Passche line only. I do have a water filer hooked up. Will post progress as soon as some is made!

Daniel I know what you mean about tidying up your workbench, I cleaned mine once and then couldn't find anything for a month.

Tony I use photbucket as well and you should have no problems.

Sean I've just checked out the HP-B and mmmmmm very nice, when do you get it?

Your Hurricane looks great Mike, nice job Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers

Thanks Quintin. I should add that I liked the Mustang too. I tend to go for post shading myself, because I can't seem to get preshading right where the camo has more than one colour.
Cheers

Mike Nice looking Hurri!

Tom & Darren I'm getting the HP-B.
I realise the .2 needle/nozzle will give me some hassle with the acrylics, but I'm getting the .3 also.

Daniel Well a tidy desk is the sign of a cluttered mind.

Hey Tony,

I use http://www.photobucket.com. You can create your own galleries and sub-galleries, quite cool.

Try it out!

I seem to be getting a lot of red crosses at the moment, the only photo I can see is Bob 'Mustang in the Garden'. nice garden, BTW. I think it's a really lousy dial up speed tonight thats causing it.

I did get the Daimler armoured car that I promised for this group out of its box the other day. Spent about half an hour noting all of the correction work that needed to be done, then decided it was too hard. I'll have to be in the right frame of mind for that one....

OK guys, here's my bench.

A quick run-down : I'm a bit short on space, so all my paints, thinners and stuff are kept in the big toolbox on the floor. When I start a project, I move all the paints I need to a smaller toolbox, to keep them together.

My spraybooth is a wooden fold-up one, which is kept in the closet when not in use. I also recently added one of those magnifying glass lamps to the setup.

And don't be fooled, it's NEVER this neat!!

Cheers

Tom The Martlet is looking great. The oil wash really has popped out that detail.

Bob The trick with preshading is to build up the top coats slowly, with thin coats of paint, as this allows you to acheive a subtle effect. Don't forget, you can also spray a slightly lighter shade of the camo colour into the centre of each panel, as this will further highlight the preshade effect.

No progress on either the MS406 or the Semovente this weekend, as I had to replace a rotten floor in the bathroom.Disapprove [V] Total waste of valuable modelling time, even if it does stop water pouring into the kitchen below!

Sean Smigol???? Come on mate. Maybe if I shaved my head.....

And, I don't know how you fellas can work on such neat workbenchs. You have to actually reach to grab a bottle of paint. I have mine set out so all my paint jars are within reach. Makes it much easier......Wink [;)]

Finally some progress on my Hurricane Mk IId...I am very close to being done- just waiting for the canopy paint to dry...have to add some small parts underneath- and then weather her a bit with some sand and dust...

The Hasegawa kit is very nice and I am looking forward to starting my Eagle Squadron Mk IIa as they appear to be of the same quality. I used MM enamels and acrylics for the scheme- and a Tamiya paint marker for all the silver...

Tom & Sean I have the Iwata HP-CS and it's a fantastic AB, you won't be sorry when you get it. The only thing I would mention and suggest is that is really worthwhile to get the .5mm nozzle, nozzle cap and needle for an extra $20. It's really worth it as it allows you to change from detail work (.35mm comes with the HP-CS) to wide coverage really easily.

Sean my wonderful curtains are in fact an old tablecloth that we made up as a curtain. As my model room is at the back of the house and is seen by nobody else (until I post pics on the web Big Smile [:D]) it really didn't matter.

dumb typos

Which model are ya getting? I came as close as waiting to hit the submit button to ordering me a HP-CS but recent developments at my house (foundation settling etc...) made me decide to wait till we get all the repairs done. I'm real keen to get one in my hands as well! The missus is teaching summer school so there is extra cash flowing in so maybe soon!

OK I started talking about Kremps and forgot why I came here... had a stroke of ingenuity today (it comes about every 12 yrs or so) and went over the wings which is the part I wasn't happy about with a 5:1 mixture of water to midstone/sandgelb and lightened up the black pastel at the leading edge a bit... I'm to the point of attaching the antenna after gluing the canopy. I have to get the BMF off first, there's a small bit of residue on the sliding portion of the canopy.. On this one I *AM* attaching the drop tanks as in thinking of what I have displayed none of them have drop tanks, a few bombs here and there but nary a drop tank... (where Kremps hid her liqour)

Oh boy, mug shots and now pics of our desks. This is my old one... (i'm going to miss it... sniff).

Tom The "K" is looking good. I like the weathering as is. Kremps says the K on the fuse side is too small though. Wink [;)]

Bob The P-51 is coming along real nice. Hard to tell with that preshading until the final coat goes on though. Looking forward to the final pics.

Sean Nice pit. Lots of detail in there. You should be ashamed of your work bench though. Disapprove [V]

Tanky Congrats on your exams and on your big score. I might have done better in school if my Mom had bribed me. As for the masking tape technique, I've been using that for awhile with great success. Except for complex curves that is, then its back to the narrow strip technique unless you're using the metal foil which I'm told works better on curves.

OK, I found a new easy faster way to mask canopies. Bascially the BMF technique with tape. I put a piece of tape over the thing, burnish it down, and cut along the frame lines with a sharp x-acto. MUCH faster than the thin strips of masking tape technique.

Haha. To tell the truth when I have a big project going, like one of my uber-detailed things it gets so messy you cant even see the table. But for a small project like the 109 it stays pretty clean.

Oh, BTW I got a 99 on the physics regents. I had to take 3 and my physics grade was the lowest. I mention this because oddly enough my mom said before the tests that she'd pay me 10 bucks for every point over 97 I got. I scored big. Nationals, here I come!!

Sean - actually this kit is the more accurate one. The intakes were missing on all but the Mk.IV Martlets... the major things with this build were my own mishaps and misfortunes... but it was a learning experience!

okokok.... Kremps was at my shoulder the whole time and it had me nervous, being this was her plane she was "make that a little more brown" ... "No, that pedal wasn't there, it had a button in that spot" ... kind of had me on edge the whole time... Black Eye [B)]

Your cockpit is looking good as is par for you! Which scheme did you finally stick with on this one?

Looks pretty good Bob. The gap at the wing root needs correcting. You may be disappointed in the preshading when you put on the color top coat. Probably not enough contrast for it to show effectively.

Ok, here is the 129 c/p

So far I love this Hase kit.
All thats left on the c/p is to paint the joystick boot leather tan, and the seat belts, which can be glued in after the fuse is joined so I can continue on with the build in the mean time.

Bob, looks good except for one thing. Your preshading lines look 1/4" thick! They should be much narrower I think., Other than that looks great. I should be finsihed with my build either today or tomorrow, post pics when I am done.
