ok... there's not often I am amazed with myself but today is one of them.

The problem:

get a propeller tip from this:

to this:

Well, I put my little peabrain to thinking and suddenly an idea hit me. I took the stirrer off my battery powered paint stirrer. I took a piece of sprue about 2" long and with a pin vise put a small hole about 1/4 to 1/2 inches deep in each end. I took a toothpic inserted the sharp end of it into the sprue, cut the point off the other end and pushed it inside the prop hole. I then proceeded to put this on the battery pack/stirrer body and :::::BAM::::: instant lathe!!! I took a stiff sanding stick and used it to form the lower picture... sorry for the youthful exhuberance, but I was really trying to avoid all the hours of sanding only to be dissapointed because it was misshapen... now I wont be!

Ok... I got a lot of the mods necessary to make it a Martlet Mk.III done today, cut and sanded the intakes from the inner cowl, rounded the spinner, cut the floor to resemble a REAL Wildcat floor etc..might be able to close the body tonight and who knows? perhaps the first coat of paint tomorrow...

Frosty - you could either do the traditional RLM79 over RLM/78. Or you could check out the Fw190 Matt Usher did in the Aircraft section. He used a mask of notecards with different sized hole patterns cut into them and held them by hand away from the surface and created his mottle pattern. It lookd like it would work like a charm with a larger notecard.

wow! I can't believe it I just got something done on a model!!!! I cut the floor of my Martlet cockpit and sanded it. I just rinsed and wiped it to get off the dust and will paint it then. I will be sure to take a pic because it's been a looooong time since a pic of anything I have done has graced this forum!!!

Anyway, I was excited and wanted to share...

Jules - same here... that's why I joined the Navy instead of going to college like my father was suggesting. If I would have started college then, versus later in life, I know I would have majored in beer with a minor in women.

Waited a couple of yrs and went while I was still in the Navy and it was definitely worth it! I actually passed everything!

Hmmm The only decisions i was making at that time was which girl to chase, what beer to drink and which particular area to go dirtbiking in..........

then wait till you take statistics somewhere in your college career.... you'll go home at night and down a bottle of aspirin trying to digest it all...

BTW Tanky - just curious, any thoughts of what you want to do when you graduate? If college, any thoughts of your major? Just curious... I just spent a few moments going down memory lane thinking about my situation at that point in life and what decisions for my future I was making...

Math final is over. Now I don't have to worry until I get it back on MOnday. At which point my mom will kill me. The good news is most of my classmates seem to be very distressed about the outcome as well. Damn Pre-calculus. Full spead ahead.

well will wonders never cease????? I actually charged up the old compressor today and shot the interior green on the interior bits.. AND.... (dramatic pause) .......... I started cutting out the sides of the floor of the MArtlet. I am quite proud of myself! This new schedule has had me coming home feeling like doodoo the last few days (some IT people are nice funny people in short doses... key word being short)

Tomorrow I hope to get some detailing done when I get home and Fri I have off!!! It's the only thing that keeps me going through the week with this schedule.. 4-10 hour shifts... a modelers dream! The wife is at work all day Fri so it's all mine to play!!!

Tom I don’t get it, are you working nights now? Oh and thanks for posting that Wildcat cockpit floor schematic a while back, I’ll use that on my Midway build.

Cheers
Darren

Darren Like your thinking. Here's how I figure the conversation would pan out.....

Boss What's that you're working on?

Me It's my post implementation review of that last Microsoft patch we applied, you know, MS406/109D.

Boss Oh, right. But what does NAGB mean?

Me Not Applicable, Good Bye, I put it on all my responses to unwanted e-mails. Don't you?

Boss No, I'll have to try that.

Figure it'll work!

Tom Good move on the project reduction front. Somtimes you just have to do it to move on.

As for me, still sorting out all the little niggles on the MS406 that the primer coat highlighted.

Finally got some pics taken & uploaded on Photobucket. This is my first entry for this GB, a Hasegawa 1/48 Bf-109E-4 Trop with a True Details interior. Model was painted with ModelMaster enamels & the kit decals were used. The model represents Black 3 from JG 27 as it appeared in October 1941. The Squadron & it's aircraft had just been transferred directly from the Eastern front, which accounts for the makeshift field applied camo. They were later equipped with Bf-109F-2 Trop aircraft in the more traditional RLM 79/78 camo.

Hope you like her. Now, after a brief pause to finish up a couple of other odds & ends, it's on to the Henschel Hs129B-1 Smile [:)].
