Thanks Daniel. The pit is now in the fuselage, fuselage halves are joined & the wing is assembled. Have to do a little seam clean up & then join the wing to fuselage. Should move along pretty quick.

Tom Thanks for the kind words. I do a similar thing with my AB most of the time. Just pull the needle back a bit and you don't have to worry about adjusting the paint flow. But for freehand camo, I like to use it as a double action, it just works better for me that way. Give the freehand a go, I'm sure you're capable of it.

Rick Your cockpit looks very nice. Very clean paint job, and the detail is great.

Thanks Tom. Most of it can't be seen on the finished model, so I sometimes wonder if the cost & effort are really worth it when detailing pits.

Rudy sounds like a real free spirit. Post some pics when you can.

Rick - very clean looking! I like the look, honestly some of the PE sets are a bit TOO busy but this one adds enough without clutter...

can't wait to see more!!

oh will post a pic of Rudy tomorrow... spent the night chasing him around the house trying to wear him down.. he was exceedingly hyper for some reason.. even AFTER 2 hrs of running in the yard, I thought we had enough room.. maybe we need to expand to 3 acres to give him room enough haha......

it's funny, I heard growling outside my door, heard him yelp then run in the kitchen... thought one of the other dogs got too rough.. went out to investigate and evidently he bit himself or something like that... he was chasing his tail when I came out of the modeling room and the other 2 were asleep haha... I wonder what he did to himself that he had to yelp... (and why was he growling at himself???) a strange dog at best... Wink [;)]

Ok, time to show a little progress. Got the pit done on my Hasegawa 1/48 Bf-109E-4 Trop. A combination of kit & True Details resin parts. Not as nice as the Ultracast resin or Eduard PE, but I had the TD set in my stash & the modeling budget is getting a little stressed right now.

The RLM02 has a slightly more green hue than the pics show, but I didn't spend a lot of time on correcting color balance.

oh!!! I started to comment on Pingy's build this AM and guess I dozed off... stunning work Daniel! As much as I pused Tanky to go freehand I am not sure I am ready for something like that yet.. I might try it soon on a junk model, but with the needle on my 155 pulled back a smidge and use it like a single action...

Thanks for the compliments Karl, Tweets, rick, John and Matt.

Matt Yeah mine just fell together too. I don't think I used filler anywhere on it. Everything fit perfectly including the nose assembly which could have been a bugger if it didn't fit well.

Karl Good looking progress mate. A blue cockpit seems a bit wierd, but that's the french for you eh? Love the colour blue don't they? Thanks for sharing the pics.

Tanky - good luck! I just did my first freehand job and it went ok... by the way if yours turns out better I'll tell Kremps to stop by with her special cough formula because you haven't been feeling well again!!!

Karl - looking good! definitely a different build than the everyday plane... good luck! It's shaping up very nicely!

No, I know I'd be more comfortable masking, but frankly, if i don't freehand I'm never going to bloody well learn... (whoops, is "bloody a forum inappropriate word?) So I think I'm gonna give freehand a try always a first time for everything, eh?

And besides if I screw up big time- What does not destroy me...

Finally some pics of progress on the MS406.

First the pit.....

....with Hurricane back armour, and scratch built framing.

The camera has made the paint look really BLUE, it's not that bright in reality, much like myself!

The belts are Eduard, from a Luftwaffe set. Don't know if they are correct, but they're better than nothing.

The fuselage halves have been glued together, and the wings assembled.....

......don't worry I haven't forgotten the pit,the wings aren't glued to the fuselage. Shows how small this plane was.

The wheel bays are separate inserts that don't fit at all well, hence the filler......

......note huge hole for retractable radiator.

And this is the join that worries me at the moment.....

.....not your normal wing to fuselage joint.

Daniel That is one sweet looking 109. She looks stunning!

As for me I've spent the weekend painting the cockpit of the MS406, and a rather fetching shade of blue it is too!!!!

Pictures to follow later.

My 109 is finally done. For those who don't know, it's the Tamiya kit built OOB. Paints are Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. The camo was all freehand. The decals are mostly the kit ones, but the Numbers are Aeromaster ones for a US Navy Hellcat, but it looks close enough for me. I couldn't find a JG 27 emblem for the nose. The white Africa band was painted first and then masked before I sprayed the camo.

Hope you like my first attempt at a 109, I might start my Stuka in a few weeks.

There's one on there for the Hobbycraft and the Revell kit I think. Would they fit? In theory, they should all be the same, but they probably aren't knowing differences between kit manufacturers.

Jules I'm always too late on these things, but there is a place where you could probably get those masks by the end of the week. Go to www.justplanes.com.au and have a look at whats there. I met the guy who owns the shop on the weekend, and he said he's getting out of the business. He has alot of stuff to get rid of, so you might get them cheaper.

Bad news fellas, the framing on the Hasegawa 109 G is a little too low for me to use the BMF method of masking so i ordered some express masks ( 3 sets ) but they're going to take 4 to 6 weks to get here, i'll get the model finished and just stash it until i get the masks, in the meantime i've got plenty of other projects to keep me goingThumbs Up [tup]

Daniel - thats what I am doing lately.. did the freehand camo on my Typhoon with only a small bit of overspray.. seems I had forgotten that it had been a bit since I did a thorough cleaning... soaked the head and nozzle in lacquer thinner today and got out several kilos of old paint so may go back and touch it up... (didnt look to bad to begin with but I think it will go better now)

Tanky Just do what I do mate. Get the airbrush out and don't think about the consequences. You can always go back and re-spray the yellow if you need to. I know that because I went between Green and yellow a few times myself on my 109. And, it's so much easier than masking.
