Tom-great work in small scale.  1/72nd still intimidates me.  Maybe something like a B-24 in 1/72 would be a good compromise.

Karl-super job on the Panther.  I'm taking notes for techiniques to use on mine.  One point-you mentioned the 'pivot area'.  For us non-armour types, what area is that?  I especially admire the work involved on the PE-espcially the fenders.  I've found some old lead foil toothpaste tubes that I might play around with and make distressed fenders.....maybe.....

Finally got started on the Me-262.  Don't panic when you see the photos-the interior is RLM 66-darker in real life than in these photos.  As with the other Tamiya kit I've completed (Wildcat), fit so far has been great.  Not sure why I devoted so much time to the guns-I'm planning on building with the gun bay doors closed!

Nice progress everyone and a Happy New Year to all.

Nice to see some of you doing some 1/72 even if it is just "to take a break".

Bob your pit is looking fantastic!!!

So is the Panther Karl.

I've been busy with family this weekend with my brother and his family here but got the base coat and the RLM 82 on the upper of the Me 262 before they came so after the guests leave tomorrow its on to the final RLM 81 layer. If all goes well (a big "if") pics on tuesday.

Wow FellasWow!! [wow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow] Some fantastic work going on here isn't there, Well done guys there's gonna be some excellent builds finished by the end of this GBThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

And as for me well i've finally managed to sweat all the toxins out of my body from the last 2 weeks of festivities and get back to work on a couple of models....

But the good news is i have found the missing URL cable to my camera so here are some long overdue pics......

OH yeah BTW it's still apparent that my picture taking skills havn't increased all that much with this new camera but thats something i'll be working on for the futureThumbs Up [tup]

The first lot are of that mystery build i was doing in the NA GB, Black Eight Ball [8]

The next lot are of the Zero i did for the Midway GB

This one is the small amount of progress i've made on the 219, all the panels have been removed from the port wing but i still have to tidy a couple of spots up and fill a couple of areas where i slipped with the scribe, It took me 2 and a half hours just to do that.....

Now if i remember correctly all you Usual Suspects posted pics of yourselves up during the NA GB, I didn't cause of my camera problem but my wife took one of me just after Xmas while i was cleaning up so here it is as well as a shot of our new car.....

Hey to all you newer members who missed the NA GB Give us a look at you and post up a pic of yourselvesThumbs Up [tup]

Bob, I'm not sure what the armour guys call the 'pivot area'. it's just the bit that sits behind the gun mantlet itself. I called it that because the bolt that the gun pivots on is covered by it.

There's plenty of room for improvement on the Tamiya kit without having to resort to all the PE I did. I think the lead foil fenders will look great. Might be worth leaving some of the tools off and using foil to create some tie downs.

Nice work on the pit, is there anyway you could leave the gun covers loose on the 262? I did that with the Dragon 262 I built a few years back.

Dave, glad you like the Panther.

Jules, good to see you back, love the car, what scale is it, 1/24 or 1/43?Wink [;)]

Tanky, I look forward to seeing the completed 1/48 Panther. Is it just me, or does it mainly seem to be flyboys building Tamiya's new 1/48 armour? Everytime I see one built of the Darkside, it's been built by a flyboy.

Dave & Karl-Thanks.

Karl-I could leave the gun bay cover unglued.  Might be an option. The kit comes with an 'opened' door option.  Don't really like that one though.

Jules-Great work on both planes!  As far as the new car-very nice ride. I really think you need to grab the airbrush and try a flame paint job......

Bob,  Great work on the pit.  I'm with you on the open gun bay on an Me-262, just don't look right somehow.

Jules, Welcome back & thanks for the peek at a couple of great builds.

Bob - nice looking cockpit

Jules - Interesting automotive diorama... very life like quality.  Great job on the 109 and the Zero

Speaking of open gun bays.... I was able to run a #79 bit through the hinges on the cover and have an operator cover.  It is just a dry fit... have not trimmed the hinge wire yet.  Got the new tail all scribed and riveted.  Slowly but surely moving toward completion.

And where is everyone?????  44 signed up for this build, 28 actually deciding what to build, 1, 386 posts on 70 pages... are you out there?  (Tap, Tap, Tap)  Is this thing on?

Actually I seem to remember someone posting pictures of a lovely tablecloth... maybe that was another GB though... ::Sigh::  I miss that tablecloth......

I guess it's us 28 "usual suspects" who are posting, although I have to admit even I have been pressed to find time to post lately..

Marc - stunning work on that plane.. can't wait to see more!

I might go and tackle a little on the little FW-190 I am doing... just to say I did something..     Wink [;)]

okay, I have to admit, I signed up for this GB but never got into it.  ever since the forum changed I'ved lost some interest in the forums.  but anyways, starting to get back into things and I have a 1/72 ME-163 Komet that I'll be building for this GB (maybe I'll make it my New Year's Resolution!).  will post some pics as I make progress.

Marc, love the FW 190.  I've been working on two for the FW190 GB.

Happy New Year's everyone!

Jimmy, welcome aboard. Are you building the Academy kit?

Marc, working hinges? You'll be using Aber PE for that T34 then.Wink [;)]

Progress Update

The Panther got a coat of primer yesterday, now looks like it's in winter camo! Having given it the once over there's not too much rectification required before I get to applying the Dunkel Gelb.

Of course I forgot to primer the schurzen!Banged Head [banghead]

Bob that's a great looking 262 pit.  Is that a decal you used on the IP or is it hand painted, either way it looks great!!!!

Jules good to see you back and superb job on both the 109 and the Zero, they look great as usual Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].  The only thing is, there seems to be some black-green overspray up your arm, you should watch that Wink [;)].  Nice car too but it can't compare with my 94 Nissan Pulsar power machine Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D].

Karl that's just awesome work on the Panther, I'm sure the paint scheme is going to do it justice.  BTW, are you going to add some crew figures to the kit?
Also, I know what you mean about 1/48 armor (see progress update), I am getting Tamiya's 1/48 T-34 for my birthday in a couple of days and I have just ordered Skybows Late Tiger I from Hobbyeasy which I might do for this build (maybe).

Rick I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you with my 262, I am definitely planning on modeling the gun bays open.  There is just too much detail in there that needs to be displayed, especially on a model of this size.

Marc your work is just awesome, btw what scheme are you going to do your 190 in?
As far as the numbers that signed up are concerned, well I think that more than a few of them fell into the same situation as Jimmy, i.e. when the forum changed they simply lost interest.  As to the rest well stuff happens.  As long as the guys who are here and posting are having fun, well that's all that matters.

Jimmy welcome back to the build, I'll look forward to seeing some pics of your 163.

::: Progress Update ::::
Well at the moment I'm trying to finish off a Tamiya 1/48 StuG IIIb as well as potter along with the 262.  The 1/48 StuG was inspired by Tanky's build and is a real relaxation build while I’m on holidays.  I picked up some Humbrol XX on Marc's advice and have commenced painting the guns as well as the gun bay.  When I have something worth showing I'll post a pic or two.

Marc-excellent job on the 190.  Very impressive.  Can't wait to see the finished product.

Darren (and others)-Thanks for the comments-used the kit decal.  The I/P  on the Tamiya kit doesn't have any raised surfaces in the gauges.

Got me all excitedSmile [:)].... nothing for the T-34 on their websiteSad [:(]

Darren - Thanks.  The plan is to make it exactly the same as the big tail conversion I did in 1/48 for the D-9 GB.  The 6+1 is proving to be somewhat problematic. AM stuff for this is pretty much non existent.  So far no luck finding a font that matches… got one that is close and may have to do… to print the decal myself.  I am not going to spend huge amounts of money for a program like Adobe Illustrator to use once to make a 6 and a 1… and I wouldn’t know how to do it anyway.  I may have to try and cut them out of tape to mask it off to paint the markings.

Great work guys, I had a really slow Christmas so almost no modeling.  I still have to go a pick me up some resin seats for my Fw190-D9s.  Once I get that it'll be pretty quick from then on.

Jules, I too noticed that black-green overspray on you arm.  I have the same problem but I have no idea how "overspray" got on my right shoulder!?  Funny, Jules, I pictured you as a shirt and tie kind of guy driving a Ford Taurus or something like that...Whistling [:-^]  BTW awesome work on your Zero!

Me 162 Interior looks great Dave.  Interesting camo scheme that you used.  what scale is this?

Karl - yes I believe it is the Academy 1/72 one with the towing tractor.  I should have time this week to work on it.

Thanks for your encouraging words Jimmy, Marc and Rick.

Jimmy that Academy kit is really nice.  I have built one and have another one in my stash and will probably buy more.  (just don't know what to do with all those tractors though... hmmmm)

I should have elaborated a little more on the pics but its my first day back to work since the holidays and has been a bit busy.  The kit is Revell Germany's 1/72 Me 262 and overall I have to say its a great kit "except" for the canopy.  I kept reading that in the reviews but I kept thinking how bad could it really be...  well, I can honestly say I have ween worse but not too many.  I did a spit and polish on it and it looks much better but I put a tiny crack in it while handling it so I hope it doesn't look too bad when I take the mask off.

As for the Camo I should have practised a little more before I started because by the time I got to the second side it was going pretty good but in the interest of keeping things even I had to make it look more like the first side.  Hence my frustration as I know I could have done better.  Was rushing it a bit as I wanted to feel like I accomplished something over the holidays.

Anyway, already started putting the decals on and should be finished soon.

WOW, alot of posts and progress since my last viewing!!

Great work guys, those cockpits are looking excellent!

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as Tom, time is very difficult to spare at the moment, and the Spit has taken a back seat to other prioritiesSad [:(].

Was hoping to finish it this weekend, but my neice gets here on Friday and I had to choose to either put her up in my model room or in the back yard.

Truth be told, the missus helped me decideAngry [:(!], so thats another weekend down the chuteSign - Ditto [#ditto]

All I have left is to decal and attach the spinner, then flat coat and weather. Oh and to glue the bits I broke off last time I touched it.

Memo to self, don't model when intoxicated. Passing out at the bench has consequences.

Jules I also noticed the overspray on your arm. Had no idea posties had tats. The ones round here can only manage beer guts, and horrid saggy ones at that.

As for the Gerbil....................................do they taste like chicken?

Jules, its funny, how your perception of people is totaly changed when you see pics of them.  The internet is cool in that you get to 'meet' a lot of people but it still seems rather sterile in that only some of our personality can be conveyed through text, avatars and our models, etc.  A whole dimension is missed when people can't see what you look like, clothes, hair style, eye glassess etcSad [:(].  Glad to know you a bit better Jules!Big Smile [:D] I don't think I have ever posted pics of myself, maybe I should find one or two.

So how many 'oversprays' do you have.  I have only one on my right shoulder that I got when I was 18 (wow, was it really almost 12 years ago! man does time fly)Cool [8D].  Most people are shocked I have one when they see it in the summer when I wear sleeveless shirts.  I find the stories people have about them so interesting.  Propeller [8-]

Dave, you me262 looks really goodThumbs Up [tup].  I must really get into my Fw190's, seeing your build is making me feel guilty.
