Rick, great paint job on the 190. The blue on the cowling looks really nice.

Further Progress Update

I've spent the afternoon applying the dark green, but to be honest I'm not sure if the green is too dark.

It doesn't help that the yellow makes for a really stark contrast.  I'll see how it looks afer the brown goes on.

As you can see I've also put the two figures together that came with the kit.

This didn't come with the kit though......

looks great!!! but sorry, the green is definietly too dark. (IMHO) it should be more of an olive green i think.

Thanks Karl, I'm fairly happy with it so far.

The Panther is looking great.  I don't know enough about Armor to comment on the accuracy of the green color, but it's applied very nicely.  Watch out you don't kill the fur ball in front of the tank, the SPCA will come a knockin on your door Big Smile [:D].

Karl, Marc, Dave & Rick-all excellent work.  Everyone is making good progress.

Little bit of a glich on my 262.  Seems to be a large gap on the frontal cockpit cowling.  I'm sure I have the interior mis-aligned.  A little bit of filing (found a great set of small files at Radio Shack) and some thick gap filling super glue followed by a little more filing seems to have solved the problem.  Also discovered that building the version with closed gun doors doesn't agree with having the completed gun bay assembly installed.  Removed a few pieces of the gun bay and glued the doors on.  Did a dry fit on the cowling & wings and the rest looks good.  Interesting note on the front windscreen though-it is part of the cowling....obviously clear, forcing me to attach before painting (not my normal routine).

Karl-thanks for the tips on the Panther over in the Armour Forum-my wife may be going to a three day conference later this month, "forcing" me to take a couple days vacation to stay home and play Mr. Mom (not really, just a good excuse to stay home).  If so, I should be able to spend two whole days on my Panther.  If not, will get started on it sometime soon.

Thanks Bob.

Sounds like you overcame the glitch on the 262.

RICK - Nice work on your 190 so far. It looks like you did a nice clean job on that camo.

KARL - Your target is looking great so far. The green is a bit too dark, but I wouldn't re-spray it. When you do the brown, make sure it's a bit too dark as well. Then once it's all dry, spray a very thin filter coat of the yellow over the whole thing (spray a vey thin mix of the yellow over it with the AB about a 25cm away from the model.). It'll tone done the colours alot and also help to tie the whole camo scheme together. hope that helps.

Still no progress started on my build for this GB, but I am starting to work on my other projects again. So hopefully I should be able to make a start soon.

Thanks everyone for your comments on the 262. It is now complete except for some weathering so pics will be along shortly.

Karl, nice looking target! Not sure whose mount my 262 is as it is not pointed out in the references but it was stationed in Lechfeld March 1945 as WGR 21 der III / JG7.

Jules, Mountie? Lumber Jack? whatever made you think that Eh? Canada is a big country and has terrain to suit any mood or past time you might have.

Rick, nice paint jof on the 190. You seem to be doing a lot of 1/32 lately. Must have built that new addition on the house?

More progress today-all wings are on the 262 and all fits are good. Even remembered to drill the holes to attach the R4M rockets before gluing the wings together.  Nothing worse than getting things glued together and remembering that you need attatchment holes for fuel tanks, rockets, etc. (not that I've ever done that before....Wink [;)])Just need to paint the jet engines, assemble & attach and then start painting.  Still have to mask & attach the canopy.  Received my Eduard masks-will get a chance to use the new type masks.  Outline of masks are a little harder to see with the new type....or my eyesight is getting worse.....

Now my biggest problem is whether to paint it as Bar's Red 13 (grey) or Sinner's Green 1 (green).  Decisions, decisions.....

Thanks Dave.  I'm really not doing that many 1/32.  This & a Frank I did a while back are the only ones so far.  Actually I was curious about the quality of the new generation 1/32 kits & so far I'm impressed.  But display/storage space is an issue with these larger models so I'll stick mainly with 1/48 as my scale of choice.

Yeah sorry Dave you'll have to excuse me i guess all that time with "Kremps" is finally starting to take it's toll.........But you would suit a chainsaw and an axeThumbs Up [tup]

Rick No suprises here, your 190 looks just as good as all your work, great job on the camo and i agree with Karl the blue really sets it offThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Karl Looks great buddyThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] thats something that i have noticed about your work, all your freehand looks fantastic, hopefully one day i'll learn that sort of A/B control......OH yeah BTW i agree with Daniel, i wouldn't bother repainting it if you think it's too dark just blend it in a little.....

Karl, I agree with Daniel's comments.  Once you blend the colors in, the contrast of the dark green will look better against the dark yellow.
Ok, so here are some pics of my Me 163 Komet with tow tractor.  I'll have to try to fix the seams on the nose.

Tanky, I'm starting to think that German armour colours are not that different to RLM colours, in that no one seems to be able agree on what they should look like!

I did a trawl around the net last night looking at photos of the real thing, not a great help as they are generally all B&W, and you can't tell what's green and what's brown, and photos of other models. Many of the latter seem to have a really bright green, which to my eye looks way too bright.

Daniel, I may well try a test on a scrap model with the colours I've currently got, followed up by a filter coat. I used the filter coat on the Semovente I did for the NAGB, but in this instance I think that the green might be just too dark.

Jules, thanks for the compliment on the AB work, thankfully you can't see all the overspray. I always seem to get more overspray with Tamiya acrylics than Gunze, must be my thinning ratio/pressure set up.

Dave, I was typing rubbish earlier, I think tyour bird was flown by Sinner.

Jimmy, can't see your pics as I'm at work, will take a look when I get home. Just so you know I'm not ignoring you.

Wow, some great progress, guys, Karl I like the camo scheme for the Panther. Rick, the Fw190 looks fabulous (as usual).  Jimmy, the Komet is looking good too.

Jules, I should post a pic of me without cycling gear,  I look a bit more 'normal' what ever that means.  Tongue [:P]Propeller [8-]

Tom, I'll turning the big 30 in July.  I feel like, you, it's just another day and you really are as young as you feel.  (I feel like a little 10 year old kid, especially when I get a new kit!)Smile [:)]

Jimmy that 163 looks great.

Progress is slow as biz picks up.  I hate it when earning a living conflicts with modeling.  Finally got the flaps done.  And if you remember me lamenting about what I was going to do with the curved hinge line n the engine cowl… well sanding and rescribed it straight.  It took about 28 seconds… ok, maybe a tiny bit longer… and was the easiest improvement to this kit so far.

Thanks Rick

I am starting to develop another problem with this build.  Because of the size there are enormous opportunities for detailing, and a feeling that it HAS to be done.  It seems as though it could go on and on.  As I am a somewhat less than patient person… I will take time to do it right… but I am worried that this build will just keep going for too long.  And I am afraid I will lose interest. So I think I will fix the really grossly horrific things that Trumpeter really just did not have a clue on, like the flaps, and leave it at that.  I may not even do the hinged gun cover and maybe cut open one side of the engine cowl, since the engine detail is done and I don’t feel like doing the guns.  I need to start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Has anyone else lost interest in a project like this?  I am a “start to finish” person and don’t like having to many (more then 1 really) projects going on at one time… at least as far as modeling goes.

I'm in the same boat as you Marc, one of the many reasons I stick to 1/72 and build mostly OOTB is I get frustrated with trying to do too much on one build. One way I have found to overcome it is to take a break and do a quick weekend or week long project and then go back to the main build.

BTW... the flaps look awesome!!

Jimmy, the Me 163 is coming along nicely too!

Hey i've made a little bit more progress on the 219, I've removed all the gunbay panels from the starboard wing so now all i have to do is the rest of the kitThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Seriously though i'm hopeing that i don't feel bogged down with the 219 and all the bits i've got going in it, It's now that i have planned the build and made a start that i realise how much is involved in getting the Verlinden set and the Eduard set into it, so Marc i know how you feel buddyThumbs Up [tup]

Ok, finshed pics of the Me 262.  Once again it is Revell's 1/72 kit and I used MM Acrylics for most of the painting.  Comments welcome as always.  I had put myself down for a Meteor as a possible second build but I have now reserved that for another GB, but I might do another Komet if time permits.

Very impressive build Dave.  Then factor in the scale and that makes it more impressive.

NOT -Just seeing if anyone is asleep...

Seriously, Dave that is beautiful.  I really love the camo job you did, in 1:72 no less! Bow [bow] The blue bands accent it just right.  I also love the head on pic, doesn't it look so much like a shark!  Big Smile [:D]

You are really making me feel quilty.  I feel really bad for not working on my Fw-190D's I can only hope when it comes time to paint them, they can turn out half as good as yours.  It's just that I'm making some good progress on my Boly.
