wow so much has happened this weekend!!!  The in-laws are gone so I can sit and post now... no progress this weekend of course.. well I did a little painting on the Tiger II tonight and am getting ready to repaint the circles on the octopus camo.  I am going to practice on a milk jug a LOT first though... want to try to get the process down.  I did deepen the yellow of the octopus tentacles though... it looks much more like the reference painting.  I plan to go over it with a extremely dilute white with yellow before I do a wash.  I want to simulate arduous outdoor use and will use pastels to simulate dust of the type from in-town use.

I am beginning to think that after all the mishaps so far, this sould be changed to the Bad News GB or such.  I brought the Fi-156 outside for some shots of the finished product as it was a beautiful day...  ends up the wind kicked up and as I raised the camera to my eye it pushed over the photo cube an brought the Storch down in a nose dive.  The starboard windows panel was dislodged and I didn't realize it until AFTER I took pics.  Luckily I found the piece and will glue it in before I take final pics on it...

Karl - I am taking notes for weathering of my Tiger... you Panther is looking great!

Bob - look good!  can't wait for final shots!!!

Tweets - I would NEVER take a critical eye to Karl's build!  Besides, I still haven't had time to check MINE to see if they are on right!!!  Wink [;)]

Darren - nice 190!  what scale is that?  The painting looks spot on!

I only went two pages back so if I missed anyone I am sorry!  I have a LOT of catching up to do!!!

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Everybody seems to be going nuts on their builds!  alas, but my builds have had no progress too Tom...Sad [:(] The Dora looks great Darren!  Bob the Me262 is commng along very nicely and Karl the Panther looks like a winner! (Can't tell any of the problems with the wheels from the pic!)

This week should be good for modelling as the baby's room is all painted - I'll take painting a little wingy thingy with my airbrush anyday!  We are having unseasonably warm weather here in Calgary.  Normally in the middle of Feb we have -20 C temps with 5-10cm or so of snow.  There is almost no snow right now and the average temp for the past two weeks has been hovering around 0 C!Shock [:O]

Karl, the Panther looks great.  I like the road wheels.  can't wait to see it weathered up.

I have been scrolling through looking at everyones work, and I have to say I am impressed.  I would really like to get in on this build, even though I have no idea what I would build and I know that I am way behind the power curve.  It is just that since I got back from overseas I have not restarted modeling and I think this would be some good motivation.  Anyone care if a latecomer joins in on the action?Pirate [oX)]

I'll probably do something simple like a PAK-40 or something....

BBrown - I'll let Darren formally welcome you, but good to see ya here!  As far as being behind the curve, we all were at some point and I am sure we have something to learn from you... that's why we are all here!  (Well, some of us were sentenced to this as part of a plea bargain deal, but that's another story Wink [;)])

And if I am correct on your profile.. Semper Fi!!!  I was a 'Doc' with 2nd Mar Div, 24th MAU (1987) and 26th MEU(SOC) (1989-90) while deployed with them as part of a rapid deployment team... of course I am old and decrepit now and couldn't do any of that stuff anymore.. but it's fun to remember!!!

hmmm... speaking of the Navy and Marine Corps... how many of the usual subjects (and others, et. al.) would be interested in a "MAD Battle of Midway GB" this year?  catch would be it has to be built between 4 Jun and 7 Jun, 2006.. not quite the 48 hour requirement of the other MAD GB's but could be fun all the same?  Let me know... I can finish the Zero from last years Midway GB during that time...  Wink [;)]

Hey there bbrown welcome to the build, you'll find a great bunch of guys on this forum so don't be shy about posting some pics.

I'll update you and your Pak-40 on page 1, oh and btw any chance of a first name (I hate these user id's).

Tom to answer your question from a couple of posts ago, the FW-190 is a very teeny weeny 1/72 scale kit.

Chris I picked up and watched the entire 6th and 7th seasons of Red Dwarf over the weekend, god I love that show.

Karl, are you going to add all of the armoured skirts to the Panther, because I think it looks really cool with some of them missing.

All thanks for the kind words on the 190.

Cheers

Darren - yeah the one I started was 1/72 too...  I had a lot of fun with it and the Storch.  I think a few tiny kits in the stash for fun is going to be a regular thing!

Chris - Dave... see you on 4 June!

BBrown, welcome to the GB.Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Darren, I'll definately be going with the missing schurzen look, it's just so urban!Wink [;)] Most late war Panthers seem to have been somewhat lacking on the schurzen front, so I'll just be adding a few here and there.

I won't clog the forum up with too much personal history, but back in 89-91 I was with 2/5 out at Camp Pendleton (1stMARDIV).  Did the first Gulf War, then got out and joined the reserves.  Currently with 3/25 out of Ohio (even though I live in Connecticut - it's a long story....).

I'm sure you have heard this before, but thanks for all you did for us jarheads.  You Docs are worth your weight in gold.

Boyd - no need to thank us, we treated yall with the respect and loyalty you all deserved, and gave back to us 150%... the best service I ever had was deployed out with the Marines... .  I can't remember what unit he was with but my dad was also with 1st MARDIV.  He was 4th generation Marine, my grandfather and my fathers brother were also 1st MARDIV I just recalled.   He almost disowned me until he found out I was going to be a corpsman and told me "If you don't go FMF at least once, you didn't get your genes from my side of the family"  haha... so I went twice and made him happy.

I spent most of my time stateside at hospitals, but spent the two deployments I mentioned with the Corps.  I got out in 94 on a medical for a fubar a civilian hospital did to me and miss it a lot!

SEMPER FI Boyd, I'm happy to be in this group build with ya!

Now you've got me strolling down memory lane... ya see, there was this bar in Haifa, Israel and.........   Wink [;)]

Oh yeah... after all the war stories I forgot to update yall... spent a little time last night assembling the tracks for the Tiger II.  I love the way they look but hate the pain in my back after leaning over assembling all the little buggers!  I don't think I could build armor with rubber treads again... this looks REAL good!  I plan to put the side canopy back on the Fi-156 tonight and hopefully get at least a preview of the finished model for you.

I might even finish my 1/32 FW-190 A8 too.. it's been begging to be completed.  I'll have to weigh the time in... I need to start my Schnellboot soon for the BoA GB as it is a loooong build and there's a lot of steps so we'll see...

I just received my my has 1/32 fw-190 a8 actually. I also got the eagel parts resin cockpit and outboard cannon fairings. The kit cockpit is good, but the eagle parts is fantastic. Can't wait to get started on it.

Work is progressing nicely on my Tamiya 1/48 FW190 A8.  The majority of the kit is put together, landing gear painted and ready for assembly.  All I really have left is to mask the canopy, wheel wells and the opening to the radial engine and this puppy is ready for airbrushing.  If I get a chance, I'll post a progress pic or two soon.

Man, I am on FIRE today - I knew this group build would give me some motivation!! Big Smile [:D]

It all started out when I finally got around to building the spray booth I have wanted to build for, oh, the last 10 years or so Banged Head [banghead] (although now I finally have a place to put it - on the model bench that I am building in the room my wife has 'given' me in the new house (provided we have no more children.. but I digress)).  All that is left is to install the bathroom fan exhaust and a light, and it will be up and running.  Even better, with the MDF I have left over from building that I am also building a paint shelf.  To top things off, I finally got to work on a MODEL!!!  Holy cow, can you believe it?  I have settled on the doing the Tamiya Pak-40.  I think it might go in a small vignette, but we shall see.  It was great to sit down and put glue to plastic, I'll tell you that.

By the way, in the new forums, how do we post GB badges?  All my old ones (there were only two) disappeared when they changed things up.  If someone could walk me through the process, I would appreciate it.

Gonna borrow the in-laws digi camera soon, so hopefully I will have pictures of the paint booth, maybe the paint rack, and my progress on the PAK.  This is good, really good... Thumbs Up [tup]

Boyd - cool!!!  It's a good feeling to be moving forward!  I plan on customizing my work desk with a circular saw soon to make my exhaust.  It is a computer desk with a small hutch so I plan to cut the top layer of shelves off, put in a fan on top of the remaining shelf and vent it out the window.  I figure I only need something that pulls about 1400cfm to do that with.  Wink [;)] (actually going to use a kitchen vent-hood thing I think, I can probably pick one up used for next to nothing)  Also I am putting vinyl tile on the floor, in a dark color to make it easier to see parts.

I'm kinda interested in doing an artillery pice now that I have seen a few both here and elsewhere.  Some nice little additions to the display area...

I am debating whether to do my hasegawa stuka for this build... ( the new 1/32 one). I might just build my little fw-190 because the revll kits are so great. In either case I assure you folks, I shall start in a week or so. Wait, scratch that- I'll start as soon as I get back from Austria. Blasted travel always gets in the way of modeling...

Sure.  First you need to set up an account at one of the many picture hosting websites, www.photobucket.com is a popular one here (I use it).  Then right click on the badge (in FSM) and save it to your computer's hard drive.  Once you have saved it in a logical spot, go to your account on photobucket (or which ever one you choose).  Upload the image to an album on your account.  In Photobucket you have several (3) choices for image format display (Url, Tag and Img).  In FSM you can use the Img format.  Once it is uploaded, open another internet browser and serf to FSM.  Go into your account profile by clicking on your name where it says "Welcome back (your name here)"

Once in there you can set up all the settings for displaying you name, avatar, pics in the sig etc.  To specifically get a pic into your sig like mine, scroll down to the signature box.  you can put anything in there, like a name, a quote, whatever.  If you add a pic img tag it will automatically display the pic associated with that img tag (it looks like [img]the/path/towhere/the/pic/is/located[ / img] - just without the spaces in the second [].  The easiest way is to copy it from the Photobucket account (one of those three image formats).  Click in the Img box and copy it, then click on the browser with FSM and paste it into the signature box of your profile.

There easy as pie, you now have pics in your sig! The same process is used to post progress pics, just put the [img]path/to/where...[ / img] in the test of your reply.

Hope you don't have too many problems.  Just let us know and we can figure out what went wrong.

Nice looking pit Rick.  Up to your usual tricks I see!  I would request more pics but I know you only do 2 pit picsWink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

Work is about to commence once again on the 190.  I think my decal woes are over.  A buddy printed up some on his Alps printer for me.  The yellow is a bit grainy but it is fairly opaque.  Most important since it does not need a top coat of sealer it is very thin.  I need to run a second test and some scrap but this can be used as an underlay for "stained Glass" decals I have printed.  The light at the end of the tunnel, that faded for awhile, it getting brighter again.
