Solid , That is a AWESOME Hudson it is truly a work of art and wooden wonder !!!! It is definitly a good idea to keep  such a prize out of little hands i.e. look but dont touch!

work on  my little killer bird has stalled due to weather as i can only air brush on back porch and 38degrees and painting dont mix well so i am waiting for it to warm up for building operations to resume on my   OS2U-3 Kingfisher . Sometimes mother nature is a real mother when she wont cooperate with me  as i only can work when im off on my 7days off as i work 7&7 its not bad pays the bills but cuts into building time as i also have to spend time wife and kids too being a married modeler you have to be superman to juggle everything and still keep your wits about and work on a project whe'll i guess im a SUPERMODELER my wife just read this and said talk to the hand!" hearts & minds" cant win em all!!!!!

Happy to know you all have liked the Solid Hudson.
Razordws....Thanks for the front page......Since I am building these solids like they were built about 60 years ago I have opted for keeping the "decals" as they were then, Printed paper......I do from time to time put regular film decals on my models but not often. I have a 25 year old model of a Caproni and the "fading" colours of the paper decals give it a "old gentlemenĀ“s look" rather nice, as if it has not had good maintenance in many years.................. it has not!!!!Tongue [:P]...the main question everytime someone sees it is.........."how old is that one?"

Solid very nice work; it's amazing that your kit is made of wood... like in the good old days... at least the cat won't be able to break it easily.

Guys thank you for your comments, I'll appreciate any suggestion and/or critic

razordws is there a Purple Heart Medal in this GB for injuries while in service? look: Black Eye [B)]

Here are some more pix of my progress (I've included a small crew figure so that you can have an idea of the relative sizes):

- double 20mm AA gun

- forward 20mm AA gun

- rudders and propeller shafts

KJ200 I'm gonna use the standard camo scheme (light gray for upper hull, dark grey for lower hull, and medium gray for the deck (except bridge)

tho9900 Yes I'm using WEM kits; the torpedo breaches were built out of the box, I just added a pair of handwheels (which should have been used on the smoke pot tops!). I used more PE parts for the bridge work: engine rev counter dials ("gauges"), engine telegraph repeater ("engine telegraph"), and binocular range handles; but you should be aware that the first two were supposed to be in the interior of the wheelhouse. I just thought they would look better like that... so much for historical accuracy! Here's a better picture of the bridge area:

I'm also using PE on the secondary armement as you can see. I didn't use all the PE parts supplied, however, like the shoulder braces or the double 20mm pintle; first one was too "2-dimensional" and second one did not fit correctly on the deck... I would recommend buying the WEM 1/72 Schnellboot PE kit, but I'm not sure about the second one I bought, the WEM 1/72 20mm Flak Zwiling: you get a PE gunsight for that gun in WEM's first kit, and Revell's gun is not bad at all after all. Pictures of the PE set:

Gonna paint the lower hull and those AA guns now... More pix later!

Solid, Very nice Hudson.  Really looks good Thumbs Up [tup].  Reminds me of the all wood Strombecker kits I built as a kid.

Progress update on my Swordfish... Haven't made much yet.  I am working (slowly) on the interior, but a couple of other builds took longer than I thought & have priority.  Happens all the time.  Hope to have something to show in a few.

Regards,  Rick

Rex........  Nice Torpedo boat!!! nice different subject.....

Well guys.....I jus finished the Hudson......Now I am thinking what am I going to do. ? I'll do some research for some odd aircraft that patroled that large ocean......??? and maybe I'll make another.

I went ahead and weathered the model a little since these aircraft were pretty much beaten up by the North Atlantic weather...Oh! the decals are printed paper.

Night Missions.........Big Smile [:D]

Hope you guys like it............its going into the cabinet tomorrow before one of my grandsons catch it!!!Wink [;)]

Rex - love the pics, you said you are using the WEM kit for the Schnellboot?  If so I have to get me one of those... the improvement to the torpedo breaches alone look worth it.  The bridge work (i.e. gauges, engine telegraph etc..) scratchbuilt or AM?  I don't remember that much detail on the one I built.  Of course it was 3+ yrs ago and only my second model after a 15 yr break, I might have just ignored it out of fear! Ok, here are the first images of the kit. The image quality is awful, but having spent more than 30min trying to get them posted, I don't have the patience to improve the pix so I'll leave them like that for now. It's better than nothing I suppose. Next time, I'll try to shoot the pictures during daytime...

So far, I've only painted the deck and made some progress with the wheelhouse:

Chris - I remember doing some reading on that sub... it was impressive if only for the a historical reference alone..!!   I'll have to go back and look some more on it, I've forgotten a lot of the story.

-=edit=-

found a good little article for anyone who doesn't know about this sub:

Yo everybody! Work on the Revell 1/72 Schnellboat is about to begin. I hope to finish the model before the end of the year... LOL kidding! I'm going to paint the model with regular standart colors, no fancy camo scheme on this one... I bought some White Ensign PE parts for the kit, i.e. the kit for the Revell S-Boot and the 2cm Flak Zwiling gun. Hope it's worth the money... I don't have a digital cam, I only own a webcam, so taking good pictures will be a little tricky, if not blurry, but I'll try my best. I also consider building the French submarine Le Surcouf, scale 1/400, if I need a break from my Schnellboot build. Le Surcouf was an amazing sub, of the class of the so-called "cruiser-submarines", fitted with a double 203mm gun (!) to engage surface targets; it even had a floatplane onboard, like the japanese subs... The sub enjoyed very little success during the war and was sunk by a US freighter in Feb 1942, some in France insinuating that it was done on purpose because the US supected the crew of being Vichy-friendly...

Man i'm still working on the prop/rudder assmembly on this U-boat, 3 hours and counting, every part needed to be cleaned up where there is a defined line which shows where the molds go together, I only needed a tiny amount of filler on both prop shaft housings and i should have it all cleaned up and sanded in another hour or so.....

Hmmm 4 hours on the prop, rudder and hydroplane assembly, I think this is gonna be a long build.......

Dave......

Very interesting little ships, I have never seen those kits but I suppose you can really detail them.

Tip:.........Remember if you need to make little parts, one of the best materials for them is Bamboo. It lets you cut and sand to any shape or form and is very
strong. Just go to your Supermarket Barbeque area and get yourself a whole pack!!!! with half a pack you have for many parts, the other half
use it to make some Shishkabobs!!!!!!Wink [;)]

Dave, looks like a good start.  I don't know how you can build these little Ships.  All I would do is feed the Carpet Monster with tiny detail pieces.

I would suggest creating an account at photobucket (it's free).  Upload your pictures, then each picture will have a link (use the one with IMG in it).  Then simply copy and past each link into your post.  You can also search the forums for more specific instructions, there are many posts that explain how to do it.

Hillbilly:  Good advice as always from Ric on the paint thinner.

Jules:  I'm hoping my wife will take the kids somewhere for spring break week coming up in March and leave me home alone with my plastic (is that a bad thing to hope for? Wink [;)]).  Hope to see some pics soon of the U-boot.

Progress report:  Not much really, but had the camera out last night and snapped a quickie!  Tamiya 1/700 O-Class destroyers from the RN.  Nothing has been glued yet as I will have to paint the decks and camo before I can do that.  Following are the pics of the ships I want to do, the Offa and the Onslow.

I never thin more than 30% personally, but be careful using alcohol as a thinner.  Not all acrylics work with it.  Vallejo for example, will turn into a curdled, clogging mess if mixed with alcohol.  Best to use the manufacuturers' thinner if possible.  If not, test first before you put it in your AB.
