A lot of good work being displayed here.  Good job all.

I made a little progress on the Avenger today-painting interior components.  Had planned on not using the pre-painted Eduard PE that I had purchased (other than the harnesses) to save time.  However, this AM kit does not include decals for the instruments, so I will use the instrument panel.  Might have to look at the other bits now..... Two questions for the resident experts in the group:

1) The Eduard instructions call out to remove the instrument console to the right of the main panel-correct or not?

2) The TBF-1C that I am building is circa May 1944-USS Block Island.  Would it have had the Yagi radar?

Thanks

Bob

Tom, I'm in the same position.

Once the big little Heinkel (1/32 He162) is complete for the BfG GB, then I can start on the little big Heinkel (1/72 He177)!

Everyone is making great progress, cany wait to really join in.

Bob, I can't help you with that one sorry.

Rex great looking work, I love the detail you've put in there.

Progress, well I have actually made some progress on the weekend with a fair amount of the resin cockpit completed.  Nothing worthy of a photo op yet, but at least I'm making some headway.

Cheers

Nice work on the guns ImperatorRex.  Looking forward to see the rest of it!

Chris, I have scanned the image, the depth charge is at the bottom of the page near the wheel (No.104 I think).  The image is rotated wrong here.

Thanks for your comments guy! Most of the parts have been painted by now, but still need some minor corrections; but the main painting work is over now. I now have to bring all those subassemblies together before glueing them on the bridge.

I definitely use PE parts for this kit. They are mostly used on the machine guns, as you have noticed. The single 20mm gun enjoys an extra PE framework and sight, while the 37mm shield uses shield hands (left and right), two handwheel mecanisms (left and right of the pintle), a hand crank conduit (with a modified handwheel), two footrest layers, as well as some other parts to be mounted on the gun itself (which should be ready soon). The double 20mm comes from another PE set, but I used a lot a plastic pieces on this one; the gun barrel and shield are white metal, and I used the PE ammo clip parts as well as the gun sight - but nothing more.

I chose to paint the inner shields of my guns in a slightly darker gray than the outer shield, as my research have shown. It's hard to see on my pictures though: I only use a webcam and shoot most of the pictures after sunset (and it's been raining for a whole week, so I didn't really see any sunsets). But I'll try to borrow a digital cam when the kit is built so I can share some better pix with you.

But taking pictures is no easy task when you have to protect your other models from your marauding cat, always eager to explore new forbidden territories (like the shelf where my planes are stored - by the way, the only model that really freaks her out is the Me262 and its aggressive sharky look). Here you have two pictures taken by a security camera showing the cat just a second after it has been located next to aircraft models, which had the effect of instantly launching an automatic and quite effective vocal alarm...

That sounds very cool hillbilly, both the model and the story.  What kind of kit/scale is the model?

Hillbilly, I saw that episode!  I thought it was such a cool thing the US Navy did.  Amazing Story.  The wreck of the bow was discovered a few years ago by some recreational wreck divers and when they went to check the records for a sunken ship in the area, no one knew about it as it wasn't actually "sunk". Talk about working backwards.  They eventually found the Navy records on the incident.  As Hillbilly mention she was repaired and I think it was re-christened too.  Cool, history you can model.

*waves hand in the air*

I have a question. What's involved with being in a group build? Can I still get in?

Do you just say "Hey, I'm in and this is what I'm building?"

Welcome hkshooter!  You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Big Smile [:D]

You can join in almost anytime as long as you follow the GB rules (as posted on page 1 of this build).  The end is in August so I'm sure Dave will add you to the front page, just let him know what you want to build then go for it!, make sure you post progress pics as you go!

So, what are you thinking of building?

J,

Well, I don't 'know who Dave is but  tell him I'm going to build Accurate Minature's SBD-3. It was between that and the TBF-1C but I like the Dauntless a little more.

Thanks for the info! After I finish my current build I'll get started on this one. Probably about two days and pics will follow.

Thankx Frog,

Those are the figures I use in my pix! They are OK, but nothing more. I might paint a couple one of these days, just to see how they would look like...

UPDATE:
Pictures of the killer cat taken by the security cam have now been declassified:

More images (of the kit this time) soon!

As promised, here are some more pix of the kit:

I'm having problems uploading pics to the photoalbum site I'm using (it's been down for over a week now), so I had to upload them to another site. This is the new address:

Looks really nice Rex,  Cats are evil aren't they?

hkshooter, Dave (Razordws) is the moderator of the GB and don't forget, the SBD should be painted in the Atlantic scheme.  One of the participants totally forgot and did his in the Pacific paint job.

hkshooter:  I would be Dave (the evil and ruthless moderator of this group buildWink [;)]) and the SBD sounds great as long as you do it in the Atlantic paint scheme like Jay mentioned.  I will add you to the front page and I look forward to seeing your build.  Welcome to the madness!

Rex:  The build is looking really good.Thumbs Up [tup]  I have a cat also, a siamese... which is a truely evil breed.  He has only damaged models twice, once when he was a kitten he chewed a prop up on my Hasegawa 1/32 Zero and again a couple of years ago he was being chased by my daughter and her friends who were tying to dress him up in barbie doll clothing.  He jumped up on my shelves trying to escape and knocked over several models with books landing on top of them.  Ouch!  He is 14 yrs old now and generally stays out of trouble.  We had another cat that we had to have put down last week.  He was diabetic and not in good health.

This is not for this group build but as the topic is very applicable to this one I thought I would post a pic here as some people had requested earlier.  This is the Airfix Sunderland in Canadian 422 squadron markings.  more info and pics will be posted shortly on the Canadian GB thread

Rex - nice work man!  Looks fantastic!

Dave - your Sunderland looks nice, makes me want to go get one!

I should be able to make some headway on my Helldiver this weekend, so hopefully I'll have some pics to post by close of business Sunday.

Hey fellas, some very nice work happening here, all the models are looking great....

As for me i havn't done anything on the U-boat for a while not since my last post anyway, I'm up to the sanding the deck stage and it's a big deck, i may call into the hardware and get some more glasspaper today after  work so i can get a little done tonight....

And i'm afraid that i have done something rather rash, last week i recieved my squadron catalogue and i couldn't help it i had to order..........

1 another U-boat (revell 1/72)

2 another eduard pe set

and 3 the latest interior resin detail sets, torpedo room, control room and engine room all from CMK....

at a cost of over $200:00 US it should keep me busy for a very long time..........

Well, better late than never, hopefully, I finally got around to completing the cockpit on the Tamiya 1/48 Swordfish.  No, this isn't an April Fools Day joke, here are the pics to prove it Big Smile [:D].

The build should now proceed at a bit faster pace.
