My obsessive compulsive side is taking over..... lol

I just picked up the 1/48 Accurate Miniatures SB2C-4 Helldiver at my LHS and would like to build this instead of my Beaufighter Mk.VI for the GB.  I really, really want to do the Beaufighter in colors and markings from Malta so I'm not going to use that kit for this GB.

Please change my kit to the Helldiver, it will be done OOB as one of the few Helldivers that were used for Anti-Submarine warfare in the Atlantic.  It will be painted in the ASWII scheme of dark dull gray on the upper half, and flat white on the lower.  The markings will be that of a Helldiver flying out of NAS Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Morning Guys.....

Staid last night until 3.00 working on some plans, I am finishing a 12" wingspan Beriev-B12, 1960´s Russian Coastal Patrol, something like the P2V Neptune except that both land and Sea plane. A beauty, will be one of my deluxe kits.

Richard...........I will use Acrylics to paint the Hudson, maybe I´ll spray, but do like to use brushes. On very shinny Mahogany wood, paint goes like butter and looks "almost" as if it was sprayed.....

Show your work pilots!!!!!!! and thanks for your undeserved praises..........

Hi Guys........

I was going to leave the "engine-pods" solid......but desided to add a little engine. Here are some pics. The engines are made of "plaster of Paris" from a Mold of "school plaster"...the kind that kids use to make things. I painted it to see how it looks in the pod.

I also like to put a light coat of color paints as I go along just to check on lights and shadows, really proportions so I did. As you can see with colors you can notice "situations"......in this case the fuselage is still too Fat!!!!!! this plane was slimmer.....so, no sweat, tomorrow I will go on the porch and sand theCensored [censored] some more...Disapprove [V]................really love this.Blush [:I]

This last pic is a comparison: Both of these planes were similar even twin tails!!!!...technology of the times....The Hudson together with a Caproni Taliedo 135 flown by the Regia Aeronautica and exported to Hungary and Peru around 1936-1939...I started the 135 about a year ago, got sidetracked and never finished it.....some evening I will.

jboutin..................Anyone can make a solid model, and if he has experience with wood carving specially so. It is important that you learn to read plans accuratly, have the right wood cuting tools, any carver does,  have patience and go slowly with the task. No hurry at all, "slowly but surely". It helps a lot if you can visualize a 2D finished object as if were in 3D one. Pictures of the model are lifesavers and I think you must have many with different angles to check your carving. One very important and crucial material is the type of wood you use. Never Balsa!!!!!!!, to me the best is Mahogany, but others can be used ok like Bass or Pine even though this last one is very hard.
That´s it. 75 years ago and more all kids who liked airplanes made their models this way, if they did then......we all can do them now!!!!!!!....a very satisfying hobby.

Solid, the Hudson is coming a long very nicely.  If someone has done wood carving (birds, animals, caricatures, etc), would they be able to to the stuff you do?  I should show this to my dad, he has really gotten into wood carving the last 4 years or so.  I think he might enjoy something like this.

Hi Guys:

Did some work tonight on the Propeller Models "Hudson". I now have all main parts cut and sanded to general shape except for one engine which still is a block Oops [oops].

Joined the wings, opened the holes for the engines and glued the almost finished #1 engine. Applied some gooey thing as a filler and now I have to let the whole contraption dry. So while you guys look at the pictures I'll have some wine and cheese.Wink [;)]

Left engine drying. Right engine needs some work.

Another view of the same thing

From the Top....The elevators were also cut and sanded. The wings are still a little too long, you can see the mark where I'll cut and file to shape.

How about some critical thoughts....????

Good Modelling to all

TOM build it in 1/32 then ya can putter up and down the river in it lol

i just got my brass wire from the lhs and it looks like it will do the job nicely so the conversion of the brownings to vickers k-guns is underway i also grabbed some strip styrene to make some spare ammo drum holders I'll probably make them similar to the ones in a swordfish or come up with some constructive gizmology and make something reasonable looking

Think of all the space to display your models!!!  Wink [;)]

hmmm If I were good enough at scratchbuilding a 1/48 USS GUAM (LPH-9) would be cool...  I've got the backyard to keep it in.

Many thanks to all of you.  The aircraft is actually a Vickers Supermarine Seafire XV which was built along the lines of the Spitfire for use on an aircraft carrier.

Dave, I've just noticed you got me down for an He177 and a PBY. Not sure where the PBY came from, as I never mentioned one, and the way things are going at the moment I might get to start on the Heinkel about June!!!!!

Tom, S-boot mit Franse!  I look forward to seeing the results.

Wow.. you let me breathe a sigh of relief Dave... good to see that.  It seems to be a popular kit and I was wondering why it was being killed... just for something bigger and better I see!

Tom I could have sworn that I saw somewhere that Revell was releasing an S-boat kit with the bofors in the near future. Let me dig around and see if I can find out where I saw that.

Edit: yep, it is on Revell's web page and is due out in September but it is with the quad 2cm AA flak-gun. So no fears of dwindling stash piles. Click on the new releases on the page below to check it out...

cool, thanks Chris, I only have the one in my stash and I know the last time I went to Hobby Lobby they had one ($12 after the 40% off coupon will get me that one this weekend!!) But I wouldn't having one or two more just in case... at least it will last until they are re-released someday...  I have built one and it is a really nice kit...

Jay - I am making myself dizzy with all the looking for the "right" build...  I just found what might be fringe enough for me.  It has the standard Schnellbootweiss vertical surfaces, BUT carried a 4cm Bofors aft instead of the Reichmetall Flak LM/42 cannon... and I just found a nice resin Bofors frm WEM at squadron.com.. decisions, decisions...

It's a moot point if I want accuracy though, the S-100's only had camo once in the evacuation of Crimea, and it was just dark grey blotches... It WOULD look good to do one in camo just for fun though...

On a side note, if any of you ever foresee yourself doing an S-boat it looks like Revell discontinued the 1/72 line.  I couldn't find them at squadron or great models either one... looks like a trip to Hobby Lobby to pick up a spare is in order!!!  They are still out in the stores, just can't find them online which is a bad boding...

-=edit=-

here's a pic of the boat in question... that's one big gun on back!

Tom, both schemes look equally unique!  As for whether or not it sailed the Atlantic, who cares, it is a really cool boat!  Tongue [:P]

Chris, I have decided to stick with the brownings supplied.  I have seen several websites talking about the Canadian Canso's and they do not mention anything about twin k-guns in the blisters. They listed the armament as one or two .30 inch in the nose turrent, one .30 inch in the rear hatch and one .50 inch in each blister. Conversly any site I found that talked about the RAF Catalina's they specifically mention the twin .30 inch guns in the blisters. Since RCAF 162 used Canadian build PBY5a's from the Vancouver Boeing plant, I assume they stuck with the American armaments.  Just a few more references to check with.
