Don't spose anybody might have an image of the radio compartment of a 109 by any chance?

Kinda wanna make it look busy, closer to realistic but after going through my referances and searching the net it looks like artistic licence is the only option at the moment.

Sigh [sigh]

Jay-My little fella is 7 months old now and starting to become a bit more of a handful, trying to crawl etc.
The best tip I can give you is do not go running everytime baby whinges or crieswait five mins, it may sound cruel but we were sleeping through the night by 8 weeks and now he wakes up in the morning and amuses himself till we go get him. A friend of mine has a boy a month older than mine and he did the exact opposite, they still dont get a full nights sleep and the baby demand attention all the time.

I am still trying to find some decent pics of the defiant interior online does anyone have any links?

Marc the pit of your 109 looks super

Karl I'm looking forward to more pics of your Do24

Ryan great progress on the Hurricane

Tom more pics of the 111 please.  I wan't to build that one next year and I enjoy your feedback and tips on tackeling that kit.

Progress report the Hurricane is filled, sanded and ready for paint now all I need is a painting area.  That should be set up next weekend (I hope) once the new Garage door is intalled and I make myself some room to work.

We all post build upfdates but we never really look at what was involved in getting where are in the build. Nor do we mention those warm fuzzy feelings as we complete a step.

So here is a recent modeling session...last night to be exact.

Progress Update

Spent most of last week doing very little, too hot here.

Temperature above 0!

Not used to that in July in England.

Top wing now primered and ready for top coating.

I've mixed up a batch of Tamiya white with a few drops of buff to tone it down a bit.

Still working on the fuselage. I seem to have a real problem with pin holes appearing in my seams, which stand out like a sore thumb on a white AC!

So I've tried mixing up Mr Surfacer 1000 and Mr White putty to create a thick paste, and then forced it into the pin holes. Fingers crossed this will sort them out once and for all.

A rather piebald Dornier following the first round of tidy up.

The beast with wing balanced on top in my rather rough and ready spray booth.

I'm off work this week, so looking to make some real progress.

Karl

Hmmm???

Once... an honest mistake.  Twice... DOH, how could I have done that again.  Third time... must be a habit.  What to do?  What to do?

Marc - I had a similiar "doh!" session today.  I have been putting off painting my 2 109s because I didn't have the technically right shade of light blue.  I had RLM 76 and 78, but I needed RLM 65.  RLM 76 is really close and I set it out as one of my bottles I would take to the paint booth to possibly use.  The only hobby shop that would carry the RLM 65 is a pretty good ways away, so I figured I would just use the RLM 76.  Well, my wife and I had to go get something yesterday that wasn't too far from the hobby shop, so I figured I would stop in and pick up the "right" color.  I did and this morning I took all my stuff to the garage paint booth to paint.  I was painting many of the parts so I had several bottles of paint set out.  First up was the light blue.  I reached in the pile of paint jars and found the brand new bottle of blue.  I painted both planes and all the small pieces that also needed that color.  After I finished and had gone through nearly half the bottle, I started on the next color.  I started searching for the next color and I pick up another bottle of brand new light blue...  then it dawned on me...  I read the number in horror... 65!!!  I did all that darn painting using the RLM 76 I had set out before!  I was cussing.  It's really hard to tell the difference in the colors.  You have to hold them up side by side to even tell, but still, it was the point that I had gone way out of the way to get the 65 and had put off the painting for a while because I didn't have the "right" color.  Oh well, just wasted a half a bottle of good paint for nothing.  I went ahead and repainted all the parts.

Dave, been there done that.

I painted the underside of an Ar 555 76, then painted all the gear doors 65 in error!

Marc, it's good to see that you are at least not in denial of your condition.Wink [;)]

Unlike the rest of us around here!

Rick, thanks mate. Good to be making progress.

Top coated the wing today, along with the tail fins.

I've also managed to almost finish the engines....

The props are Aeroclub as the kit ones are for the later German sourced props, while the one I'm building had Hamiltons. You can clearly see the cowling front's, ex-Revell 1/32 He 162!

The fuselage is almost done, just a few little blemishes to remove, and then it's time for a top coat.

Karl the Dornier's really starting to come along now, I'll be looking forward to checking out the final product.

Marc & Dave I've had a moment or two like that myself.  I remember the first time I used Tamiya's extra thin cement.  I was happily gluing sub assemblies together and setting them aside to dry only to have them fall apart in my hands when I picked them up hours later.  I was thinking that this cement was cCensored [censored]p and I was getting ready to bin the whole bottle when I realised I'd been trying to glue parts with Mr Mark Softener decal setting solution Blush [:I].

Guys, thanks for the encouragement.

I remember the first time I fired up my Badger 200, and queezed that trigger, expecting paint, but just getting a loud hissing noise....

.....how was I to know it had a dust cap!

It's not like I'm going to read the instructions, after all I'm a man, I know how to use tools!

Nice progress, Karl!

More painting woes for me...  Murphys Law of Modeling:  No matter how many paint colors you have, you don't have the right one.   It seems I have all the RLM colors except the ones I need.  After I made a special trip to get the RLM 65 (see above for that story), it was time to start the camouflage pattern.  I masked everything for the coat of RLM 02 (the one I actually had).  I sprayed that on and the next day I masked for the next color of camo.  Everything I can find suggests that BOB 109s used a 65/02/71 color pattern.  RLM 71 is Dunkelgrun.  Just like with the RLM 65 issue, I had a Dunkelgrun, but it's RLM 82.  I also had a Swartzgrun RLM 70 which looks close, but no freakin RLM 71.  I guess I have all the colors for the later war Luftwaffe camo patterns but not the early war.  Anyway, so I'm off to the model shop again when I have time.

RLM 70 is much darker than RLM 71.  During the BoB, about the only use of RLM 70 was on the props.  There were some earlier 109's that were done in RLM 70/71 & were still flying, however.

Rick, I see what you mean now.  I bought the RLM 71 today and finished my camo painting.  Here are some pics.

It's hard to tell that there is actually something underneath all this mess that will actually look like the paint scheme of a Bf-109E.  But here is my Tamiya 1/72 Bf-109E-3 and Tamiya 1/48 Bf-109E-4 before the masks are removed.  I used a lot of tape...

Here they are after the masks are removed.  Now they look a little more recognizable.  Although the camo patterns are pretty close to the same, they will end up very different.  The 1/48 will have a yellow nose and tail fin and have mottling on the sides.  The 1/72 will be pretty much as you see it with no mottling. (notice the big pile of tape)

Greetings, Tally ho, Horrido as the case may be:

Despite all rumors to the contrary, I am not missing in action.  Indeed, I have been closely following the trials and progress with keen interest.  I have only one thing to say, some of you people really need to get a job!  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  Just kidding, I remember fondly the days when I had what seemed endless hours to devote to my passion.  Funny thing, I seemed to be doing better work today.  Go figure.

Karl, I stand in awe of your work.  Very nice, I can't wait to see the finished result.
Marc, I about sprayed coffee all over the monitor when I read your post.  Been there, done that.  You would have thought I would have learned not to do that the first time!  Big Smile [:D]
Dave, Murphy's Second Law of Modeling:  "The smallest part, which is the most important one to the entire kit, will go flying across the room when you attempt to cut it from the sprue."  This doubles by a factor of at least 2 in the case of PE
Darren, having visited your fine city for the F1 race, I am well aware that while the rest of the world thinks they know how to party, Aussies have moved it to an art form.

Meanwhile, back at the aerodrome your slowest progressing kit is actually making progress.  The Hase Huri is coming along.... oh so slowly.

Yes indeed, the PE is attached to the seat, actually the whole seat is PE.  Anyway, adding and still adding more PE to the cockpit.  The Censored [censored] rudder bar is almost all PE and scratch work.  I did this why?  Eight Ball [8]  I really need to buy a 2 piece canopy for this one.  But I am pleased with the result so far.

And of course, the panel needs lots of attention.  I spent way to much time cutting off the compass and attaching it with the PE mount.  But it does kinda look cool.  Still lots to add there.  When I get bored with this, time to do the odds and ends work on the fuselage.  Add this PE and saw off that part.  The real problem is when the seat looks this good, it kinda sets the bar high to make the rest of the kit look as good.  Truly opening Pandora's box.

Away I go, looking forward to following the rest of  you.  One thing I have learned.  When it comes time to build the 109, only need to post here for the correct RLM colors.

Cheers!
