Progress Update.

The Do24 is still in hibernation. I'll probably end up sanding the codes off the wing, and re-applying using rub down dry decals I found online. Much easier.

The He111 now has wings, stabs etc, and is starting to look like a real plane!

I Futured all the glazed components last night, and there are quite a few of them. I also scratched a pilots overhead centre console, based on the drawings for theirs on the Eduard site. Like the IP, it's not stunning but should look OK.

Just a few more details to make up for the pit, before I start assembling the goldfish bowl.

Where's Tom BTW?

Rumour has it that Tom ran off with Kremps.  They are living in a grass hut on Bora Bora.

Now I heard that Kremps carried Tom off, and that they are living off grass, but Tom is bored.

Well Well well..  I see everyone here is having fun at me and Kremps expense!!!  Wink [;)]  Sorry for the long absense... we went from 5 8 hour days to 4 10 hours days for the summer then we switched back again so my schedule is a little off..  that and I just finished implementing a server that will synch your docs on your hard drive real time to prevent loss... Back in the old days you could just stick a disk in a server and install the NOS... now you have to pretty much craft an installation disk from old rubber bands and duct tape to get the magic flowing enough to let it install!

Anway.. no modeling has been done here for some weeks, I think due to all the schedule changes and amount of work going on right now, by time  I relax and get in the mood to do something it is too late.  (plus a minor fight with a dirty airbrush that almost did me in)... I am still following this GB as best as I can in the mean time but usually it is in a 15 min window I have to read the news and relax before I leave for work...  I'll be back in it soon though!!!

Oh yeah...  And it wasn't grass.. we were on a scientific mission studying mushrooms...  Wink [;)]

Oh yeah... she said give her a call, she has a bone to pick with you!  Wink [;)]

Actually it is good to be back... That was some trip with Kremps...  We even took the old DeSoto out of the garage for this one... 21,000 original miles.. Kremps only drove it to the clinic and back since she bought it!

Happy daysBlush [:I]

So Tom, did the  scientific study of mushrooms reveal any important data?

Like do they prefer to survive on Borsch and cabbage soup perhaps???

Looks great Marc.

Tom, decals were just mailed...really no kidding!  Sorry for the delay...I need to go to the doctor and first figure out where this bullseye is on me and secondly how to get rid of it!

My pit is coming together, should be adding washes tonight and then the fuselage goes together, so in about two weeks I figure should be all done.

Thanks Marc-that's what I was wanting to know.  I was hoping that you were doing Wick's E-4 and I wouldn't have to experiment with various application devices to achieve the 1/48th scale 'sponge effect', knowing that you would share your secrets.  Or I would send Kremps over to visit you.  But it is not to be, so off to the lab! (maybe weekend after next-the family is leaving for summer vacation-or holiday as it is known across the pond-on Friday am-back the following Thursday.  So everybody slow down so I don't get further behind.)

Thanks for the welcome back all!!!  I actually got some modeling done tonight!!  not for this GB but at least it was progress!!!  (the B-25 for the S. Pacific/Memorial Day GB's)

Darren - we learned that mushrooms are solitary creatures and turn rather nasty when disturbed... don't ask me what the control group we used for the study was...  Wink [;)]

Bob - thanks for the info on the TV shows the other night.. I still haven't got all my email replies caught up... I didn't catch it, but I am hoping it will come on again!!!

Hi all, I'm just getting of a quick post here at work to let you know I'm still alive.  Unfortunately my bench time is near zero at the moment due to other commitments.

I'll read back through the last couple of pages of posts when I get home tonight.

Oh yeah, welcome back Tom Thumbs Up [tup]

Marc - Great work!  Beautiful looking build.  How did you make the spring for the canopy?

Progress on my builds has slowed.  It always happens when I hit a snag.  It makes it hard for me to get motivated.  It's the canopy, as it always seems to be for me.  I think I need to start my builds doing the canopy first.  If I can do a good job on the canopy, then I can do the rest of the plane.  Nothing is more frustrating than being almost finished with a model and then totally screwing up the canopy....  grrrrr.

This time, I used the Eduard mask on my Bf-109E-4.  The only place on the canopy that is curved decided to start peeling up while I was painting.  I kept trying to push it down, but inevitabley, some paint got underneath.  I worked with it and was able to get the paint off where it shouldn't have been.  Then I had to repaint it and after a few days, I started to put on a dull coat.  The darn mask just wouldn't stay down.  I know I should have just remasked with masking tape or something, but one of my faults is I'm not very patient.  I got a tiny bit of overspray on the window pane...  Then I started peeling off the mask and in some places the darn paint on the canopy frame (that's supposed to stay there) peeled off also!  Almost like it didn't adhere to the canopy.  Now I'll have to touch up some areas but won't be able to dull coat them.  I don't think I've ever had paint come off the canopy frame that bad before.  I know, I know, I should have used a sharp blade and scored around the masks first.  See the part above about my patience.  I guess I'll just have to live and learn...   Luckily, I have an extra canopy frame for the Bf-109E-4 Tamiya kit.  I might just have to start over with it.

Marc ditto to what every one else said on your 109 great looking bird

I finely had time to start on my kit today, back in to the airplane mood. Here are some shots of the office that I got painted today. Noting special but you wont see much once I get the pilot and canopy in. I also test fitted the wings to the fuselage not glued in yet..

Marc, Dave, Rick, David--- Thanks.

Dave... The spring is a strand of wire from an old cell phone charger wrapped around a #80 dril bit and CA'd to a stiffer piece of wire.

David... great looking progress.
