Down Memory Lane Group Build

I have finally started the Airfix Firefly as I received the replacement canopy from Airfix. I have started to sand back the surface rivets and am trying to find my book on the firefly so I can do a bit of scratchbuilding in the cockpit, wheelwells etc to fill the areas out a bit.

I'm buying a new camera today or moday so I should be able to do some excellent shots of the kit in progress. I'm buying a Panasonic DFC FZ-30.

Hello all, I am still working on the D-VII, but my eBay aurora kit came without an engine and the landing gear struts - and they said it was complete. Anyway, I had to "borrow" the engine and struts from a Smer kit and they are taking lots of time to clean up. The detail on the Smer engine is bad at best, and some of it is missing altogether. I ended up adding the cam shaft, rocker arms, and valve ends on top, and fixing the intake manifold on the side. I'm having a great time doing all of this. I love the old Aurora kits, especially if they are complete!

Here are some images of the interior of the 1/72 Airfix Firefly I am building. I spent a day having fun doing it all, especialy the seats. I have yet to add the radios iin the rear compartment and some further detail in the cockpit.

Harvs73, You are doing a great job on that Firefly! I almost feel like kicking myself for building the Mustang OOB.

I cant wait to see how it turns out!

Hello all, I have not had a lot of time for building of late, but tonight I was told to go work on a model by my wife and with a smile I went off to the work bench. Finances being what they are at the moment I decided to paint on the lozenge camo on the interior. While my first attempt on the port side was "a nice try" and looked pretty good until I did a better job on the starboard side - I worked off of a pattern this time. When I showed them to my wife she said to repaint the port side. I was going to repaint it anyway. She encourages me to do my best.

You must have been a bit crancky if your wife sent you off to work on a model......  Good to hear that your wife is so supportive of your hobby time.  Mine, she goes in waves.  Depending upon the events of the week, and if I've not been home much, I get that "look" if I go to the work bench.  Other times, she almost pushes me into building/painting.

I must admit my lack of progress on this GB   I have the F-111 built, and I am in the process of sanding & puttying and sanding some more.  The Revell kit that I am using is from the 70's which when I built this as a kid, I thought was a pretty good kit.  How we wise-up when we grow older! 

Hello mph34, My wife knows that I need my "alone time," and yeah I was a bit cranky, but I am so very loveable the rest of the time .  I tend to relax when I build - I forget all of the stuff I have to deal with for a while. She does support my building and even my collecting kits - I am trying to get most of the kits I had when I was kid. My next phase is to get the Aurora tanks. Anyway, my wife understands that modelling is an important part of who I am. She is a very wonderful lady.

Just before I met her I was at the LHS and saw a pile of oop kits and snagged a couple. I asked the owner about them and she said that one of her other customers was getting married and had to get rid of them. I am happy to say that my beautifl wife would not make do that!

I don't know if this fits the rules as it was built before the start of the thread, but here it is.  This box scale F-89D by Revell was my first kit, which I know I built in 1956, or maybe 1955.  I broke the canopy frame on the first one, and pretty much smeared silver paint all over it.  I probably put some red paint on it too but that I don't remember.  I was 9 or 10 when I built it.  This one was built 7 or 8 years ago, and was my first NMF attempt, using Testor's metallizer paint.

Sorry guys I ment to have these up a long time ago, but life has kept me pretty busy! I am making good progress on the old Aurora Fokker D-VII. I am pleased with the way the engine is turning out. The plug wires are made of brass wire and they were a bit of a pain to install, but I was so glad that I it. The paint is all by brush. I hope to have this one finished by the end of the month or the middle of Feb at the latest.
