Somebody a long time ago in another forum suggested putting vinyl pieces in the freezer for a while before sanding. Supposedly you get a more styrene-like sanding response (no fray, no fuzz) when you do this.
Haven't tried it myself, but it sounds reasonable.

Just tried this technique with the tires for the Dragon Wagon.
I would say that I had mixed results. Probably would have worked a little better if I had worked about half a tire at a time and then put them back in the freezer instead of trying to complete the entire tire in one swoop.

Thanks for the report, Robert!Smile [:)]
I suppose the heat generated by the friction from the sanding warms it up pretty quick, too.
You guys up north can just take it outside, and you won't have to worry about it! Ya'll getting freezing temperatures yet?

It was the same, here in Ohio, the beginning of the week. Today it's barely 35 degrees. We have snow flurries as I post.

Hey fellas,

On Friday, Nov. 7, at about 11pm Eastern Time, I finished my Tiger. She truly is a massive beast! Of course, my triumph is tempered by the fact that I hadn't anticipated finishing so quickly, and hadn't purchased batteries by that point. So yesterday found me buying batteries and a charger, amidst Christmas shopping and everything else. Anyway, the point is, it won't be until later today that I get to fire her up and see how she runs! Tongue [:P] And before anyone asks, I have arranged to post the new pics on Wednesday, so wish me luck.

Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic] Took in "Matrix Revolutions" this weekend. It totally rocked.

Sherm forgive my ignorance, but just what the hell is a "touque"!? Evil [}:)]

Anyone looking for Late T1 tracks ?

Marty over in the Armor Hut (post#1923) bought a set and dinna notice the diff until he'd already blackened and painted his. You want a set that is ready to roll, talk to him.

Can't post his addy, Yahoo truncates addies to prevent bots collecting 'em.

WooHoo!

My PE arrived at my friend's place, & it'll head here Wednesday (as Tuesday is Remembrance Day) Big Smile [:D]

Hey guys,

I'm back after a couple of days off, during which I ran my Tiger around the house and took pics. She runs great. I did have to turn the speaker down a bit though. (That thing definitely announces its presence!) Now regarding my mods to the transmitter... Apparently, the modifications specified in the FRAGarmor site don't work per se with Futaba's attack transmitter. Sigh [sigh] I did talk to a friend of mine in my tank club and he said that we could still figure out which port controlled the firing and wire them up to the buttons, But for now, I have to use the trim tabs to fire. Note: I did run into one other small problem. Note really a problem, but here is what happened... I assembled the hull and turret and then painted them my camoflage pattern. However, when the main gun was assembled, it was in the recoil position. So when I started her up and fired the main gun, the barrel extended fully to reveal nothing but my dark yellow base coat! So I had to go back with my airbrush and finish up that 2 inches or so. Like I said, not a real problem, but definitely a pain! I also tested the battle unit and that works great too. It's too kewl! As for pics, I have them loaded on a Sony memory stick and I will try to post them tonight. So what's new with your Tigers?

When's the next battle day!? Evil [}:)]

Rocad,

Yeah, I printed the instructions off after studying them carefully, and no, it just won't work on my transmitter. (Not as they instructed it anyway...) Oh well, like I said earlier, I just have to test each and every port and isolate the ones responsible. Oh, good news all..Pictures will be sent to Erock for posting tonight! Check them out when you can and let me know what you think.

2019 hrs, Eastern Time, pics posted to Erock. Smile [:)] Tongue [:P]

I was able to wire up my Futaba Attack radio as shown on the FragArmor site, but the pot they show controlling the trim lever for the guns isn't the same one as on my radio. They show their pot connection as the vertical one next to joystick 1(left), while it's the horizontal one below joystick 2(right) on mine. The site also mentions using two different colored wires, but mention only one of the two colors in the instructions about connections. You can probably figure out the typo on your own. If you can figure out which trim pot to connect to on your radio, you should be home free. Good Luck!

Hey Erock, all that matters is that you got the pics and they are safe. It's out of my hands now! You guys wouldn't believe what I have to go through to send them! Hey llrdhsktr, thank you so much regarding the wiring. Is it realIy as simple as that? Let me know if there is more. I will try it out as soon as I get the chance. Wink [;)] Now, back to the pics... I'm glad that they look good so far. My friend resizes and enhances the resolution for me before I send them so we can get the maximum effect. The only thing I didn't note in my comments was that I cut some clear plastic for the periscopes in the commander's cupola. I don't know if you can see them in the pics. I also added some telephone wire to the single headlight on the front armor plate. Enjoy the pics ya'll! Tongue [:P]

Roy: The wiring to bypass the trim levers for the guns IS that easy, though the FragArmor instructions can be confusing. Just wire to the pot for the appropriate trim lever on your Futaba. Mine's like I described. Remember that as you will be looking at the radio from the back, what you see as the left side is actually the right side for the front of the radio, ie-left joystick from the rear is actually the right joystick in front and vice versa, etc. Hope this helps! Hey Lester,

As a matter of fact, I wired the transmitter up (per your instructions) this morning before coming in to work. (Although I didn't have time to test it!) I will fire her up tomorrow and see what happens. Thank you again for your help. Wish me luck! Wink [;)]

Well,

Looks like the problem is my internet provider. Most of the Northeast section of the US is having Adelphia internet cable problems. I called this morning and they said it should be up by Saturday morning.

I'm at work right now so, this is the first time I have been able to get online.

Sorry for the delay Disapprove [V]

Hi..

Is there someplace where I can buy a replacement METAL gear for the last plastic one still in the Type 4 gear box?

I'm also looking for a set of metal tracks for an EARLY version Tiger 1 besides ebay. Price has risen alot on them lately.

Does anyone have anyone have any suggestions on what color I should use as a base coat if I decide to go with the dark gray color on my tank? Or should I skip a base coat and paint the simulated base color on top of the dark gray where I want to show where the paint has peeled off. I saw that in a model mag and was surprised at how well that worked. I had planed on rubbing thru the dark grey to show the base coat below, but this looks easier.

I'm also trying to find 1/16 scale items to add to the tank. Just extra stuff they would have carried...boxes, cans, buckets and such.

Thanks,
MikeBlindfold [X-)]

Hi guys,

Yeah J-Hulk, I fired her up last Tuesday and she ran great. Tongue [:P] I was really impressed with the power and the way it moved; very realistic. The sound effects recorded by Tamiya are also very realistic. (I had to turn down the speaker sound a bit from where it was set, as it was very loud!) As for my transmitter, I wired it up a couple days ago as per llrdhsktr's instructions, unfortunately I haven't had time to test it out! Sigh, looks like I will have to wait until tomorrow. Black Eye [B)]

Hey Rocad, for some 1/16 scale items, check out the links page on the Fragarmor website; they have a link to LLC Models, which has a lot of the items you're looking for.

After 2 phone calls, I'm back up and running. The cable company had to come out and do work on the outside line.

3 days without the forums and I was going nuts Dead [xx(]
