IF your wife labeled the boxes; Garage/Basement/Storage (you'll find at the bottom of the pile in the garage)

IF your kids labeled the boxes; Dad's stuff (you'll find at the bottom of the pile in the garage, or their closet)

Good luck on unpacking.  Hope you don't have a list 'as long as your arm' to get through before you get to get back to the workbench.

Stinks to get left behind, bbrownii, but at least you get some modeling time in = ).

I just started Futuring my F8-E, so it will be ready for decaling with Academy's so beloved decals. I think I should be scared, right? Does Future mess up the painting job underneath for anyone else? Am I supposed to put a coat on before the Future? Ahh! Too many coats!

Good news though, I finally got some lacquer thinner. Now my airbrush might actually work! I'll post some pics when I have some nice progress (or a smashed pile of rubble) to show.

Update: I sprayed it with Future but I'm unsatisfied with the outcome. I think it will be suitable for decals, but I don't want my final coat to be like this. Also, I believe it messed with the fully-cured acrylic paint underneath. I'll have to do some minor touch-ups. Do you think it would be a good idea to use an enamel for my final coat so that it will not interfere with the layers beneath?

Hey Guys,

Hope everyone is having a good summer.

I was supposed to be away for a month doing some training in Australia, but instead had to stay behind.  The result is that I am living in a crappy hotel room for the time that my unit is gone.  On the plus side, I have a chance to get some serious work done on the IL-2m3.  I had gotten a bit of work done on the 'office' (that is what you wingers call it, right? Tongue [:P]) before I came out here.  After some initial frustration with research, I had pretty much decided I was just going to build the thing OOB and not worry about being too nitpicky with details...  Then there was this one control wheel in the cockpit that I just hated the look of and I decided I wanted to replace it.  Well, to make a long story short, I don't have a punch and die set, so I was having trouble making a good looking replacement part.  Finally, I broke down and got the Eduard photoetch set ($15.00 on Squadron vs. how much for a punch and die set??), so now I am full steam ahead with that.  It actually has a great collection of stuff that I will probably add.  In fact, this one set pretty much addresses all of the concerns I had with some of the detail that I just thought looked a little off.

So there is an update for me.  Unfortunately, the US Gov't has blacklisted Photobucket on Gov't computers (at least the military has) so I cannot post any pics, but I'll keep y'all updated on progress...  Darn, I think I might lose out on that turtle award after all...Blush [:I]

Well fellas the bad news is I am home from the land of the big PX.......the good news is I will have a few weeks until I go downrange. Hopefully I will be able to finish the 162. It has been a while since I was able to log in, but it looks as though everyone has made some progress. From what I have seen this has really been an interesting group build. Everyone seems to be going all out on this one, it is great to be a part of it. I will post progress pics as soon as I make some. Enjoy the build fellas, JOSH

Well, I have the corner of my room to work in. And I have to migrate to other parts of the house to airbrush so I don't die of fumes in the night. it's quite cozy actually. just makes the entire room smell like... what now... I think acrylic thinner.

Here I have some pics of my lovely Academy 1/72 F8-E Crusader

Ok, I'm on my number 2 on the list, the 1/72 F-8E Crusader. Jin came over last night and I got a whole lot done on it. Thank God Academy likes its parts to fit together. I also used his airbrush (silenced with pillows in an ammo can as to not wake up the parents at 1 AM). It looks really nice. I just have some touch-ups, bombs, and decals to do. How's that for a quick build?

Thanks peeps for all your positive responses! It will be plenty dirty when I am done and It will have stowage as well. I'm still not QUITE done with it though.

REJOICE! I PICKED UP A PAIR OF XURON SPRUE NIPPERS TODAY! after using doom grr's pair of sprue nippers, I couldn't go back to my hobby knife. Now the build will go a lot faster.

The MGs included in the kit are pretty fiddly, but thats nothing compared to what i've dealt with before.

oh yeah, and Jack, since you don't wanna disclose the fate of ur HMMWV, I'll do it for you. In a 2 second decision fit of rage, you smashed it. HAHAHA

cheers peeps. catch you all on the flipside

Hey guys, okay, bad news. For a reason I'd rather not disclose, I can't finish the HobbyCraft Humvee. I'd always wanted one, but alas, it will not be so. I also do not recommend HobbyCraft. It doesn't quite have the normal fit problems that can easily be remidied. The hood and top had to be bent considerably so that they could span the gap. Basically, they were just too small. I didn't quite understand it = /.

So, considering I don't have my Crusader, #2 on the list, (Jin took it), I believe I will begin the Tiger I. Unless maybe I can get him to pring it to me tomorrow. Hmmmm.... I'll call him, one moment.

Ok, I'm back. He thinks he can bring it tomorrow. So I guess the F-8E Crusader is on. A 1/72 kit that actually fits will be nice for a change after Airfix, RM, and HC kits. Charge forth!

J'thith Beautiful build, very clean just a little bit here and there and it will be ready to be proudly displayed with the best of them. I saw yours and started throwing rocks at my Academy Abrams.

The all Powerful Lord Kenny Decreed "We need to come up with a good name for the "sickness" that we will have when we call in sick! Whistling <img src=" border="0" width="30" height="20" />  It needs to sound serious; maybe a bit contagious; and we need to have a 'doctor' say that the 'sickness' takes 5 - 7 days (at least) to run it's course.  No skin type stuff (unless you don't mind painting your face while you paint the current project)."

Hey how about fingers? I went to the finger specialist today to check on the broken guy (finger) and he cut the nail off where it was cracked and the new nail is growing underneath. I came home and super-glued it down on the good nail and used Squadron green putty to fill in the gap and divot. Then I filed it down smooth. I swear this is true. It's like having an Airfix finger.Shy [8)]

I call in with transportation dificulties                  that's when I can't get my a** in gear. Big Smile [:D]

I am makiing progress on the fireball. I recomend a Czech Model kit to everyone. The details are great, the resin parts are easy to work with, there is very little clean-up. the fusalage halves went together with no locator pins and fit great I used Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill the seams. The plastic itself is soft, not brittle and takes paint well. This kit is a true joy to work on. I just finished a couple of other GBs and they included an old Airfix kit(more putty than styrene) a 23 yr old MPC kit (more warped than I) and a revell kit ,Okay but still way too much filling and sanding. I'm afraid that with this kit building itself I won't be in the running for the most coveted turtle award. But better than that, I took my MPC 1/24 Bf 109 to work to show another modeler and he was so impressed with my ability to see what I am doing he gave me a 1/24 Airfix P-51 Mustang (Beautiful Doll) with the condition I must show it to him when I complete it. I am truly blessed.
