Welcome back Tony, looking forward to seeing your progress.

As for me here are some update pics:

I had a little mishap while shaking up a bottle of yellow paint. The lid was not quite secure so I ended up getting little yellow droplets all over the aft end. I need to do some sanding and repainting to fix it. Please let me know if you notice anything else that needs to be corrected.

BTW, did you all see the S-38b in FSM? What a nice job. TTFNCowboy [C):-)]

Thanks for the Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back. I am now pulling out what little hair I have left. DECAL NIGHTMARE Banged Head [banghead]. I have been trying to decal this for three days. I set a decal OK. I left a decal in water  a few seconds too long...Banged Head [banghead] I used solveset and it destroyed three of my decals so far. I had to strip and repaint a section of the fuselage, when I lifted the low tack masking tape I also lifted the low tack decals that I thought had cured after 48 hrs.  But fear not I WILL PREVAIL. Oh, BTW Since the Fireball will never technically be finished, what with the cats dining on parts, I guess you can just give me the Turtle award now and save yourself the trouble of reading sob stories about how "I can't finish "Boohoo [BH] or finish at the midnight hour to try to take MY Big Smile [:D]award from me. As a matter of fact why don't you just rename it "THE TONY GREGORY MEMORIAL TURTLE HONORARIUM" Big Smile [:D] I will be waiting patiently Whistling [:-^]

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind comments.  It's kind of nice to get enough done to post some progress pics. Now I just need to buckle done and finish her.

TG sorry to here about your troubles, but I'm sure you'll prevail and have a great model to show for it. Not to mention one heck of a story about how it came together (or not)!LOLCowboy [C):-)]

I have the upper color, RLM 79 Sand Yellow, applied.  Yep, I'm doing the kit version of Black '8'.  I always wanted a North Africa tropical paint scheme and this will be it.

Now the hard part begins, the green mottling.  Mottling has never been my strong suite, so we'll see how this comes out.

Arki- It's coming together well, another fine model in progress!  I'm sure you'll do a great job on the mottling. I'm sure you heard of the index card with holes in it trick, I used that on my Macchi and it came out pretty good.

My first attempt, with a little more practice I'll be ready to try it on my 109 trop.Cowboy [C):-)]

Yeah, I've tried that trick before and it didn't work as nearly as well as yours did Banged Head [banghead].  Nice looking Macchi by the way.  I'd like to do these as freehand as possible just for the experience.  I'll figure something out...

Freehand Arki?! You are a brave air brusher than I. One day I hope to have the experience to try though.

Kenny finally started on the big E? The time limit must be close at hand. Hope to see some pics soon. Does this mean that everyone has at least started?Cowboy [C):-)]

Or foolish.  It's the sheer number of the green mottles that's giving me a headache.  A couple on the each side of the fuselage would be one thing, but these are all over the wings and tailplanes and... Dead [xx(]

Since you won't give me the TONY GREGORY MEMORIAL TURTLE HORORARIUM I will turn in the work of a six year old. That's how the decals are coming. I have resorted to cutting out the picture from the bottom of the box, scanning it taking it to Publisher, enlarging it cutting it out, applying white glue and gluing it to the side of the fuselage. Then a coat of future to hold it in place. The numbers I had to freehand and it really shows. Four days of simple decals and still not complete, NEVER will be.

Have you tried the decal paper system from Testors?  You print the design off of your computer, andthen use the spray compound that comes in the starter box (you can buy this where you buy your paint).  Using Publisher, you could design the numbers as well.  I have had good success with it (took a little 'trial and error').  My next project is to get all 32 NFL team logos scaned and printed for a custom design for a P-38.

The paper comes either "clear" or "white"

For a white number, I'd do the following - use the white decal paper from Testors.  In your computer program, make a text box using WHITE as the font color.  In the text box, select a color that will work for the background (your plane's color).  You will want to play with this background color to get the one that works for you.  I'd cut several sheets of normal paper to match the decal paper size and try several ones out to get the one that works for your project BEFORE you print it out on the decal paper.  If the white number is to have a black outline, then you'd just need to cut VERY CAREFULLLY around the black outline.

Again, try the color/design out a few times on normal paper before printing to the decal paper.
