The In My Stash GB

Paul, I am not worthy to write my opinions about your creation, it is a work of art, no, fine art. After looking at your fantastic work of art I know I am terrible. I am so bad that I had to throw rocks at my Fireball (and I just found the camera). Being as bad as I am I threw rocks at the plane and couldn't even hit it. How's that for bad?

I will post pics soon, but I will have to wait for a new page to come up. I can't take the thought of someone retching while looking at my build with yours so close on the page. At the ripe age of 51 I have hereby decided (after looking at Paul's work of art) to never build another kit again as soon as my stash runs dry. Being so humbled by that greatness let it be said that Tony Gregory will never endeavor to build another kit as soon as my stash of 140+ (with more coming, I hope) is depleted. This I solemly swear.

RMV- I guess if that's the best you can do for a choo-choo. Really you have a lot of work to do! JUST KIDDING!!! That is an awesome, fabulous, no wait it's an awesome model. I am in TGregory camp when posting pics next to yours. Alas I do have some progress pics to update you all with, so here they are.

I'm almost finished with this, should be done by the end of the month.

Good progress pics, NucMedTech.  Little by little it's really coming together. 

This is particularly why I like this GB concept.  The sheer diversity of builds gives us something different than the typical theme builds, not that those don't have their uses.

i am with you arki it is nice to have a gb with alot of diversity . happy to see more and more names popping up from the beginning of the build hope to see some progress reports.

i just got back from FL so i should have some more work done this week and get up some new pics

As promised, here's a few pics of things on my bench.

First is the Moskito before I dropped it and then after. I still have to redo some of the seams that appeared after I did a bit of pre-shading.

This is the Skycrane - the primer coat is on, a few seams filled.

Finally, my stash from which to select my entries for  next years GB. I did have it organised by genre and scale, but my wife reorganised it by box size. Apparently it takes up less space that way? It's nice to have them all out on display rather than being stored in a couple of big boxes.

Maybe you could make some cash detailing trains for people's
model train sets.  That thing really looks ready to run the rails.

I painted primer on the Mig last night.  Probably will airbrush the
base color tonight.

Lord Kenny!!!  I am still here, and have actually made some progress on my Shturmovik - in fact, I am going to leave work right now and go spend an hour or so flinging some plastic around to see what happens.

Alright, FINE, all you naysayers out there - I'll just go ahead and post my pictures here on measly ol' page 84...  You wait, 100's comin', I can feel it...  Guess I'll just have to post pics of my COMPLETED build on page 100....  yeah.... completed....  hmmmmm.....

OK, so anyways, here are a few shots I took yesterday.  Just a couple to show the state of the build. 

This first one is just a shot of the major components that I have finished and where I stand on a few things.  As you can see, I got a wild hair up my and decided to reposition all the control surfaces.  This is a bit of an experiment for me since I have never done that before, so we shall see how it goes.

This is a shot of the office ('front office'?  Is that what you air guys call it ).  Anyways, I didn't do too much extra in here.  I did use the Eduard photoetch set and have mixed emotions about how much it really added up here.  You can see in the picture that I wanted to 'dirty' things up a bit so I have just applied a wash.  It doesn't look nearly so dark and distinct when looked at with the naked eye.

This last one is, obviously, the fuselage all stuck together.  I have to go fill all the seams yet, but it at least gives a sense of the shape of the thing.  The cowling is only held in place with a bit of tape, so don't fret too much that it is a little canted...

So there you have it, photographic evidence that I am actually getting this thing done...  Well, at least trying...

Hey Brownii- Nice job so far. You will probably be able to get those completed pics on page 100!!

Here is my completed Schnellboote S-100. Quite a bit of mistakes but I tried to keep them out of the pics.

Now I've got to scoot over to the P-38 GB. I'm not going to try and compete with Arkii's hat trick. I'll keep in touch to see how everyone's doing.

You'll have to put that one in a nice place.

Man, the quality of builds in this GB is stunning.  Not to mention
the diversity of subjects.  You can definitely count me in next year.

The MIG has been enamel-primered, and tonight the first acrylic coat
was airbrushed.  I didn't have the exact color I wanted, so I tried to
hand mix a light ghost gray.  Unfortunately, it came out a couple shades
lighter than I wanted, so tommorrow I'll pick up the right paint for the
final coat.  Should go on easy, now that the base is done.

I was very pleased with the way that the inboard bypass vents
came out.  Having completely rebuilt them, I wasn't sure how they
would look when the paint was applied. Recall:

I've got a really good idea of how we can build the stash list
and conduct the vote next year.  Here's what I'm thinking: 

First thing is that on my server I will put up a web forum
(you know, a system like the web forum we are using here).

Then each member of the group will go to the forum and post
a "polling" thread on the forum with their screenname as the
title, and their stash list in the message.  Then we can all go
to each other's threads and vote using the polling script. 
It will save me tons of time, but it will also be very accurate
and will provide instant results after the polls close.

NucMed, Boyd, and Windhawk.... I guess you guys don't want to see the Fireball.... You keep posting pics of fantastic builds/progress. I think I dropped my camera in the toilet and it won't be dry until the embarassement of my folly goes away.

Kenny, I'm all for Windhawk's polling idea what do you think? Workable?

While I appreciate your kind words, I would be hard pressed to suggest what I have posted represents 'fantastic'.  But it is passable, and it may even get done by, what is it 11:59.59 on 31 December (Oh, won't my wife love that: I'd love to ring in the New Year with you sweetie, but I'm on the CLOCK here!!! )

Now, as for those other guys, I'd agree with your adjectives there!!

And yeah, windhawks idea sounds good.  I'm in.

NucMedTech, awesome boat .  Another one through the finish line!  Frankly, I can't see any mistakes and you should be proud to have it displayed.  How long is the finished model?

IL, great to see your Mig coming along.  The early detail and prep work seems to have payed off as she looks very smooth. 

I'm up for whatever voting system is the simplest.  I'm a firm believer in K.I.S.S. 

i think i will keep with tradition and start the thread on november the 13th .

i am going to add another new rule lets see if you all agree. this time around you will only be able to claim the GB badge if you have completed the build . what do you all think.

and the next badge i may need help on i only have my laptop right  now and cant do much with it i am hoping to get my desk top up soon

Arkii- The finished model is 19 inches in length and stands about 5 inches high. I found an Imex display case at Hobby Lobby that just fits.

TG-I'd still like to see the Fireball (just not actually on fire), I do appreciate your comments but looking at other builds I think mine is acceptable. There are a lot of things that I probably could have done better, but it's always a learning experience.

Kenny-Thanks for a great GB! If you keep posting like you had you might get Brownii to page 100 sooner than he expects.

Nukmed that is a good looking boat.  i built that boat myself and i like the way yours looks Unless my eyes deceive me... looks like you opt'd to omit that little wind shield too!  I just could not figure out how to get it bent and slanted and glued.  It just wasn't happening for me.

IL2 Your aircraft really looks good.  I'm going to have to admit my stupidity about modern aircraft... well aircraft in general   Unless i have good pictures I just think the way it comes out of the box is correct.  Even then... I still do a lot of, what the is that thingy supposed to be or do? One day i will learn because i end up doing a lot of reading and research about what i'm building.  With that long winded preamble... what did you do to the vents?  do you have a before pic?

I finally started the 1/32 ju-87 stuka that i'm building for my brother.  He bought it for me to build last december.  Thought i should get around to building it.  Sorta wish he would have sprung for the PE stuff but i'm not sure if i'm up to another long build just yet.  Let my run this idea past you all.  He wants it to be something he can hang on the wall in his office.  He does not really have the shelf space for a 16 inch plane and cant hang from the ceiling (12 foot).  so my idea is have it perpendicular to the wall.  I'm going to run a 1/8 inch steel rod through the wing struts (thank god there is a good thick stiff wing mount) and out the tip of the wing and then from there through a wood plaque and keyed in the back.  The same treatment through the stabilizer.  the over all effect i'm looking for is the plane standing out about an inch and in a banked dive.  what do you think?
