Well here is an update from me...I got around to painting the cockpit and gluing the wings together on my Hasegawa P-400 yesterday, but I ran into a major road block...I was taking stock of the parts I had on my desk, when I noticed that the Ultracast seat I was putting into it was MIA from the desk. Then while I was painting today, I noticed that part D2 was MIA, which is the lower IP panel! Angry [:(!] I did some research about getting replacement parts from Hasegawa online and came to the conclusion that its next to impossible to get anything from them.

Well $60 dollars later at SprueBrothers, I ordered a Blackbox replacement cockpit and a couple other goodies for other products. The game plan is to take the currently assembled and painted parts and put them into the Hase P-39Q I just got last week, then rob the front landing gear housing out of that kit to use with the P-400 (P-39D) that I'm working on now with the Blackbox replacement cockpit. So much for a cheap build :p

Lookin good there. Your nose weight seems to fit better than mine. Anyways, I managed to fix the wing seams without removing them, I just mixed some squadron white with liquid cement, and it bonded the wings as well as filling the cracks. Right now, she's just about ready for paint.

I would love to get into this group build, but I am not sure of my time committtments. I have the kits on hand, but I am looking for one set of decals.

Does anybody know of a set of decals for the P-39's in Italian service that is correct? All the decals I have seen have the same error, that is for the 4 Stormo they have the name Baracca instead of Lucchini. This includes the Eduard kit.

The source of that errror is previously, the 4 Stormo used Baracca's name on their Macchi C.202's and 205's before the Italian surrender. After the surrender the Stormo was renamed in honor of another fallen pilot Lucchini. Lucchini was the one whose Macchi C.202 had wings of two different camoflage patterns when after damage a wing of a Breda built C.202 was added to his smoke ring pattern Macchi built aircraft.

I like the kit the only trouble I have had with it is the canopy fit,it didn't seem to want to fit flush with kit I did the best I could but overall a very easy and nice build. no major filling or sanding needed.

I'm not part of your build, but a question if I can. For those of you doing the 1/48th Hasagawa kits, how do you find them,in terms of fit, ease of assembly, etc? Thinking of getting one myself.

Here's an update on the MPM P-63A project.  The basic airplane is together and after doing some rescribing I have applied the neutral grey on the bottom.  The vacform canopy took a lot of work to fit and it is not perfect, there are just too many places where it has to fit, and the fuselage shape is not that exact, especially in the aft end and around the front of the windscreen.  I did box in the main gear wells, and am half way through doing some strip styrene hinges for the nose gear doors.  I'm not sure what they had in mind for attaching the nose gear doors.  Maybe I was supposed to just rub the fuselage in one direction and the gear doors in the other, then just let magnetic attraction hold them in place.Bow [bow]

Arrgh! yesterday, I filled those gaps with squadron white putty and sanded them smooth (before I read these posts), and everything was going good. then, I realized that as I was sanding one root, I was slightly flexing the other, and all the putty cracked and some pieces fell out. Censored [censored] Then, in my stupidity, I decided that some cement applied to the gaps might help. I tried to wipe off the excess with my finger,Dunce [D)] but the plastic had already been softened, and I managed to really mess up the surface around the seam. I might just pry off the wing and clean it up, then try one of your guys' methods. I'll let you know how it turns out.Banged Head [banghead]

I finished an Eduard kit not too long ago and found here was a slight gap at the wings. After thinning the trailing edge… way too thick as is…I made sure the upper wing seam fit perfect and glued the bottom wing first. Then I got the upper halves as close as I could without getting the tips to out of whack. I stretched some tape from tip to tip to pull them up and close the gap. I am going to do the same thing this time but I will add thin styrene strips to the edge of the upper wing so the gap closes without pulling the wings too high at the tip. The first one has just a bit too much dihedral.

Jaypack, are you doing the Eduard kit?  I'm doing their P-400, and I had a wing root gaps to deal with as well.  I was pretty surprised to see the gaps, give the excellent engineering of the rest of the kit.  I think if I had taken more care, I could have minimized them, or even eliminated them at construction.  I wonder in hindsight if I had glued the bottom half of the wing to the fuselage first, then glued on the top wing halves, if that would have helped.

You guys with the Eduard kit who aren't that far along may want to do some dry fit testing of the joint.  I'd be interested to see if anyone else has had this problem with the Eduard/AM kit.

Here's my update (Sorry no pics right now)

I finished the cockpit assembly last night and assembled the fuselage. This morning before school I attached the wings/horiz. stabs. They should be dry when I get home. I noticed some gaps at the wing roots, but that's probably my own fault. They shouldn't be too hard to fix.

And I thought getting that resin pit into half fuselage was hard...That was only until I tried to get the 2 halves together.  I don't know that I will try the CE pit again but to be fair to them I think I made a hundred time harder having to modify it for the engine.

I was surfing earier today and came across a reveiw of a Hobbycraft P-59 using a CE resin upgrade set.  Can you guess what the radio looked like?Whistling [:-^]
