Guys, I actually shot these pics through my jewelers visor to get the close ups, please dont be to critical of how they look as this is the first time I've tried this and will perfect it as time goes by.

Just to prove to you I've done something, here is the hull and decks of the Titanic.  If you look closely you can see a wide swath of putty along the keel.  I am just drooling in anticipation of trying to sand it!

Hey guy's, I have been watching this GB and thought it would be a fun build, so if it not too late I would like to join with a Monogram C-47 that I will be building with the SSGB as a crossover.

I will have time this afternoon to check the references for you.

The boat I am building is USS Silversides, Revell in their wisdon based it on the boat as is today a museum, according to the references I have she was never 2 tone gray and black during the whole war. Why do they show the periscopes as black in the instructions and all the box art show them gray?

All the pictures of the boats in the back of the intructions show the subs mascot on the sail but don't include them on the decal sheet, and how did they miss the four exhaust ducts, 2 on eac side?

What size wire did you use for the cigarette deck cabling? Would like to try that if I can find some the right size.

ADleitch I am doing the same thing and I found that 30 gauge wire, is a near perfect fit for me. As I am just a beginner, 100% is not crucial. 90% is good enough for me.

Check your refs, but you might want to use TAC or ANG markings for your jet... I think ADC pilots usually wore orange flight suits (the kit instructions are incorrect.) For all you rescribers out there: are you scribing around the raised detail, and then sanding it off, or what? I have a couple more Six Packs in my stash (courtesy of a clearance table at Hobby Lobby) and those kits and a scribing tool are the only modeling stuff I have access to during the week so I was thinking about scribing one one of these days... Nice Mich ANG markings BTW... I have that sheet as well and plan to use them next time I nerve up to build a Six.

Wow, everyone is really moving along on their kits! Nice job everyone!

I started my Wright Flyer. I got the wings and flight surfaces painted, and started painting on the wood frame/supports. I also carved out notches on the propeller chain drives to make it look more like a chain. There is still more detail painting to do before I start on any assembly. I'll try to have pics up later.

Are the Revell kit markings international because I found this quote on the web about jumpsuits from a Delta Dart pilot? "We made a point of wearing out international orange flight suits in the Officer's Club (so we could be seen if we bail out over the North Pole). They wore the standard green flight suits (so they wouldn't be seen if they bail out in Southeast Asia)." I would like to know if anyone could tell me. I got orange paint and would be happy to change if necessary.

Tony, Leave it the way it is! I'm planning to paint the flight suit on my Six's pilot figure green too. Either way you go it will still be right so it doesnt really matter.

I think I read that same story... the guy was stationed at Langley, right? AFAIK, the Six was never stationed overseas. But ADCom was absorbed by TAC around 1980, and the ANG and special programs (B-1 chase, NASA, etc) probably wore olive suits too. But the orange suits look so cool...

Those of you building the Gato class submarine might be interested in this.  The USS DRUM, SS-228 was the very first of the Gato class and the only one in commission at the start of WW-II.  She is preserved at the USS ALABAMA Battleship park in Mobile, AL, and there are several web pages devoted to her, (and her namesake, SS-667, nuclear attack boat).  Check those sites out for detail shots.  I took some pictures of both ships several years ago when the sub was still floating in the bay.  She has now been beached and is on supporting piers with her entire hull visible.  I'll see if I can find those pics and post some of them.

Depending on how accurate you want to be I have found some stuff in my E-Book (it won't let me copy but will get around that when I get home next week)

USS Growler SS 215 Electric Boat Company Groton, CT

In 1942 she received the cut down and back fairwater which is accurate with the Revell Kit. Your next problem before you paint is according to Synder and Short she was in MS9 paint measure until she was sunk, she never wore the 2 tone gray, it seems alot of the subs were that way in the Gato class.

MS 9 is black Horizontal and dark gray vertical.

I have aload of S-Video Cables at home sure the wife doesn't watch much TV anyway :-)

I will tryand get the pictures I have to you next week if interested.

smokinguns3- Your progress is looking great. Almost makes me want to start mine but I'm waiting to see what after market comes out. From what I can see in the Warship pictorial book every Gato was different. Conning towers varied, there were 2 different 3" deck guns a 5" deck gun some boats not many but some had two deck guns. One fore and one aft of the conning tower. Anti A/C guns could be three different 20MM mounts or a 40MM mount in different combinations.
When in doubt just build it. Mark http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/

Well on the the other side of Lake Ontario, we just got a dusting of snow. That is it. No need for a snowbrush for the car so far. (Knock on wood.)

ADleitch,  thanks Big Smile [:D]

ADleitch and Supraman,  yeah I got some snow up here yesterday and two night ago but not enough to cover the grass.  as right now its sunny outside and im sure all of snows will be gone soon.  and its nice to knowing to have a neighbor nearby rochester.

Madroc, I was orignally born in Illinois then moved up to rochester after I graduated from NTID/RIT. I live nearby where Lilac Festival is located.  so its will be easy for me to walk than seeking a parking lot Laugh [(-D] but the walk distance is pretty far lol.

My P40B Flying Tiger is on hold now since im going to chicago tomorrow for belated xmas with my family so i shall be back to rochester next week.  its almost done tho.

looking forward to see all of your models smiles
